      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Ore Underground? Beta 2 47f.

9 posts in this topic

This is the first time I've played with this mod.

I have made a small base in the side of a hill with a firepit, crafting bench, scribing bench, and a few chests.

I've managed to get a full ingot of bismuth from using a number of sluices. I made a bismuth pickaxe and a stone prospector's pick.

At this point, I'm unable to find any ore underground.

Quartzite, dolomite, and chert stone are near my base.

I have made staircase mines (properly supported) down a few levels into the quartzite and dolomite areas. I have used the prospector's pick and it has not picked up a single bit of ore. I've tried looking into neighboring areas by using the prospector's pick on the surface, but that unsurprisingly yielded no results.

What do I need to do to find ore?

ores are spawned in large quantities

to find ores explore large areas of land and pick up rocks

set up sluice systems to find metals

hope this helps

And how did you make a stone prospector's pick?

If you've been using a sluice and finding bismuth, you should dig around the 100x100x60 area that the sluice searches for ores.

Chances are, there is an ore vein there since you stated that you got small bismuth, but It will take a bit of time to search for it.

There is the issue that I have been using gold pans and sand blocks to fill the sluices. Is this advice still valid with my methodology?

Yes, it could even be gravel 1km away from the sluice, but you have to remember that the sluice checks the area it's in, not where you pulled the sand/gravel from.

That's how I'm getting a crap ton of native copper, hematite, and bismuth from my sluice farm.

Poke around on the overworld, picking up rocks. If it turns into an ore, there's generally an ore deposit nearby. Also, check out infinus5's prospecting and mining guide, along with a thread showing the ropes of using the propick in the guide section.

picking up rocks is definitely useful and proper use of the prospector's pick is helpful, as well
