anvil does not shape metals

Hello, I recently installed this mod - and so far I really like it. Everything was going well up until now. I am trying to shape my unshaped zinc in to a workable material. I activate a stone anvil just fine, by using a hammer to click on the top of a stone block that is native to the area I am in. I heat the zinc up to the Very Hot* level and throw it in the top center/left(left of the plans square) with a hammer in bottom left square. The progress bar does not move at all like the wiki states it should. All the green and red lettered choices for shaping the metal do absolutely nothing. I've tried heating it to different levels because maybe the wiki was somehow wrong on the heat level? Still nothing. I moved to a different area with a different native stone. Set up the anvil just fine, but encountered the same problem! I am stuck, and would very much like some help so that I can progress to the next stages of this mod. Please let me know what could possibly be wrong, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

you have to be sure you have a hammer on the hammer slot (cant remember if its the right or left slot though)

Yeah. The hammer was for sure on the correct slot. I figured out my problem on my own though. I didn't realize I had to keep combining the unshaped metals until the durability bar filled up so that you couldn't see it anymore. I feel like a fool now, though the guide I was reading said nothing about combining them before being able to shape them.
