      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Greenhouse...

7 posts in this topic

On the server I was playing on before it all went to heck, somebody built a greenhouse which SEEMED to work even in winter. Do greenhouses work in TFC? I was wondering if anybody had tried it in the polar regions.

A greenhouse on my sever worked.....sometimes. It seemed to protect the plants from snow directly, but some times the plants would still die. About 1 out of 3 years the plants would all just die off entirely for no apparent reason. Our village is in a cold climate, but I haven't heard anything about ambient temperature effecting plant growth besides fruit trees.

in previous build, crop used to "die" if you do not harvest them. In other words, you could put lot of seeds in the ground, come back after some days and everything is gone as the crop naturally died. Now there is a setting that allow you to say if you want crop to die if too old.

Yeah, I am aware of this, and it is set to not let them die by default. the problem we (and presumably the OP) are having is even recently planted crops dying spontaneously, usually in winter.

Well, you aren't supposed to plant crops in winter, for one thing. The next thing is that crop seem to be able to die off if it ran out of nutrients in soil, which amount you can check using metal hoe. Also, there's temperature dependence.

Greenhouse in TFC protects only from snow. All other protection is not included, because there's no such thing as proper greenhouse in TFC at the moment, because there's no way to reliably tell if room is enclosed or not in minecraft.

Although it'll be nice to see at least a set multiblock structure for that.

i thought they were working on that one with the "temperature" gauge, TFC seems to track that in the F3 screen and i remember it being mentioned in a post / blog / something, that the way you construct your buildings has an effect on how much heat is retained in a given structure - also it was supposed to influence the speed your water drops.

I don't know about anything of the sort. Except water loss is indeed dependant on how cold/hot it is outside.

But buildings do not affect ambient temperature, nor do the fires and forges.
