Placing ingots in world

I hope I'm doing something stupid that has not yet been mentioned because I have checked everything I could find mentioned.

I am attempting to place a completely cool (No heat level indicator present) bronze ingot on the ground by shift-right clicking, and nothing happens. I have tried other methods of shifting and clicking, and I have tried placing it on various materials, but nothing works. What am I doing wrong?

I'm using the latest launcher, build 76 hotfix 17 on windows 8.

Make sure the ingot hasn't been worked at all either. Hovering over it should say if it has been worked (has a hit, bend, punch, etc on it)

Also I suggest updating to hotfix 18 as it fixes many texture problems.

All I did was make the ingot, and it shows no indication it has been worked that I can see.

I've tried forcing an update, but I am unable to get to hotfix 18. Does it require Minecraft 1.5.2? For various reasons (related to servers), I am still on 1.5.1. How could an update that fixes texture issues relate to a functional problem like this one?

It is a shaped ingot correct? Not an unshaped ingot still in it's mold?

It's shaped. I melted the ore down, put the full tray in the anvil, banged it with the hammer until it became an ingot, waited for it to cool completely, turned to my left, held down shift while I right clicked on the ground, and nothing happened. I'm now walking around with it in my hand randomly trying to place it in what would probably be an increasingly entertaining variety of ways.

Well, actually, it's bronze so I used the metallurgy table in between melting te ore and banging on the anvil, but same process.

Have you changed any of your key-bindings? Shift is still your sneak/crouch key right?

I tried to change my throw key away from Q, but it didn't work so I changed it back. Sneak is still LSHIFT. I've, reluctantly, made a couple of mroe ingots and am waitng for them to cool off. Let you know if they work when they do. :/

Nope. The new ingots aren't working, either, after completely cooling off. I was able to make an axe head out of one of them, so it seems they're real ingots. I was also able to place a log pile so I seem to have the process down. I'm completely lost.

Related bug. Sometimes placing will not work...other times it will cause a phantom dup error.... It will place a bunch in the world but not take any out of my inventory...and when I pick up the phantoms they will stack in my inventory and then disappear. I am going to try some more testing as this has only happened a few times. If I pin down what I am doing when it happens every single time ill post here.
