      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I propose that dirt and sand, in addition to their current mechanics, flow like lava (though obviously without animation).  this would mean that as you dig, you'd have to make the hole continuously wider or buttress it, adding realism.  It would also lead to a much smoother looking landscape.

 

It should have a more limited flow distance than lava, and perhaps stop flowing after a certain number of blocks regardless of grade to prevent endless rivers of dirt.

 

I don't know if this would be computationally taxing, but given the prevalence of water, I'd expect it to be okay.

Expect to every part of your landscape "flow". I would agree with sand and gravel, maybe some types of dirt, but not all. Take into consideration, that hardened ground could work well as it is - a support for even tough buildings.

 

Another point is that such a change would globally change how MC in general looks. Even if a dirt block would "flow" only to its next block or max 2 blocks away, the most important change is that you swim in water, but would have to walk on such tilted ground.
