      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Description:
When loading new chunks the game starts to slow down. A few seconds later the game crashes. If I quit out completely when the game starts to slow down and restart I can play for a few more minutes before the game again starts to slow down and crash.

Your game is running out of memory, which isn't surprising, considering it only has 512 MB allocated. It looks like you might have attempted to allocate 4GB, but you never deleted the original Xmx argument, so it's still using that one.

Edit: I would also like to point out that there are no legal copies of Rei's Minimap for Minecraft 1.7.10. Therefore the copy you are using is an illegal one, and it's very likely that the website you downloaded it from is very sketchy and possible bundled viruses or malware with the mod download. I would highly recommend that you delete that copy of Rei's, as well as run an extra scan on your system with your antivirus.

Thanks Kitty!

I deleted Rei's minimap. How do I delete the original Xmx argument? I thought I already did that when I checked the box for JVM Arguments and typed in -Xmx4G in the Profile Editor. Is there something else I have to do to get the game to use 4GB?

When you checked the box, the -Xmx512M argument was already in the text box, and you put -Xmx4G in front of it. You needed to delete it from the box and replace it with the -Xmx4G.

I've done that already.

I also have 15.9 gigs of available memory. I can't seem to figure out what the problem is.

I figured it out!

I had an environmental argument being added by another process that was causing the game to ignore the change. To fix this search for "environment" in the start menu. If you find something that says "JAVA_OPTION" try deleting it.

Kitty, can you please rename this topic, "Minecraft ignoring JVM Arguments" so that other people with the same problem might find this.
