      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Server crashed at 10.15 am pacific time :/ It must be noted that a lively discussion regarding sequoia trees was ongoing at the time. It would seem obvious that someone was fooling about with them. Please note that there is a message on the server that says in so many words LEAVE THE F*CKING THINGS ALONE!!!
  2. The OLD Roanoke Thread

Hey good people of Roanoke. I will be away at a meeting for a couple days so please don't up and disappear Be back Thursday and have fun while I'm not having fun :/
  3. First, if TerraFirmaCraft never developed beyond its current state it would still be by far the best manifestation of MineCraft to date.... brilliant work and my heartfelt thanks I feel the greatest thing that MC has going for it is the amazing distance because of the near infinite map. TFC expands on this principal by having limited north south (or latitude) which provides unique opportunities for content relative to placement on the "globe". To enhance this concept I would like to see trees grow only within certain latitudes with appropriate overlaps and NOT be able to grow in inappropriate areas even if planted there by the player.... tundra is tundra. If there was a median zone where each tree species grew poorly (slowly or only small trees) so much the better. Also, as has been suggested elsewhere it would be cool (if possible) for saplings to only spontaneously appear very close to "parent" trees. Using this same latitude factor it would be neat if ore generation was tweaked (bet that hasn't been suggested :/) so ore bodies were larger and shallower (even surface rock) at the poles well north of the tree line. This would necessitate players travel north and south to get the optimal combination of resources thus making different areas of the map more desirable and unique. This would mitigate the worst aspect of vanilla MC in that where you mined was immaterial. Lastly, would it be possible to greatly reduce the productivity of fruit trees? Its a shame the awesome farming system is seldom used because 6 fruit trees (easily obtained) can feed one player in perpetuity. Thanks for the opportunity to comment and double thanks for this excellent mod.

I fully support Vemmarens guard post idea and I urge him to make free of any stone in the RRD depot. I was also thinking of using fences and walls in appropriate areas to at lease keep the zombies and creepers off the road. Also try not to build directly adjacent to the road, set your wonderful creations 1 block back so there is plenty of clearance. This does not of course apply to connecting side-roads. The RRD depot north of Istar-Town is very much in need of stone so please donate if you can. Thanks to Bob, Josh and anyone else involved for the horses.... should be a great fun
  5. The OLD Roanoke Thread

The server continues to grow and become more amazing.... chunk purchase, NPC's, medicated bandages. lanterns...... makes ya wonder whats next. Once again a mad idea related to what to spend our money on?,,, answer... AUCTIONS!! A desirable item. piece of land, exclusive sales contract etc. could be auctioned off every so often to the highest bidder. Bids could be in open auctions but much better in my opinion are "sealed tender bids". Players bid an amount secretly to an admin and highest bid takes whatever prize is offered. This might serve to gobble up some of that excess gold floating around
  6. The OLD Roanoke Thread

Hey there. Noting aero's cool pics I have one question....... is it really a good idea to have machines producing gems (the very neat auto-sluice). It would seem that it and others like it will flood the gem market and make currency relatively redundant. Maybe there is some aspect of this that limits it but it does seem that it could collapse the economy. Any other thoughts out there?
  7. The OLD Roanoke Thread

yeah... i was fooling with my head lamp and turned it on..... also mistakenly started a grass fire trying to light it with the flint.... might have been my fault. Figgered out that you press "f" while wearing the lamp and have the approved flint/steel in your hand. Sorry if I screwed up :/
  8. The OLD Roanoke Thread

Here are my pics for the contest.
  9. The OLD Roanoke Thread

Here we go..... Bbushh's mad ideas :/ Problem: There are low tier ores, other minerals and food items that have no use or value and are in great overabundance. Idea: Export shacks (Starports?) Players would claim 1 chunk in a central area (near the RRD depot comes to mind) and build a small building that housed 16 chests. They could then fill all these chests with FULL STACKS of various items (surplus ores, minerals and food) which would then be destroyed (exported) and then some benefit would accrue (special resource, chunks, payment in some form, etc.). Players would use a "flag" of some sort so the moderator (in this case BOB ) could then effect payment by leaving it in a chest inside or awarding chunks.. Any ore, mineral or foodstuff that has little value would then be imbued with some relevance in game terms. Neat item: books that you can write in. Idea: Books could be used to interesting effect in game by becoming legal contracts for a variety of issues like land grants. The player could write up a "proposal" (described land for annexation.... umm, can't think of any more examples..) and would present it to Bob (or other admin). If the "potentate" signed it, it would become "law" and would impart rights as stipulated in the text. This is a bizzarro idea but could be kinda fun.... who knows. I have attempted to make these concepts as streamlined as I can because I have no wish to burden our admin with onerous tasks. It is of singular importance that Bob enjoy the experience of running this server or ultimately it will fail so I completely defer to his decision whether these concepts might add to the fun. I also would be happy to have positive or negative feedback and any suggested modifications to these ideas would also be welcome. Lastly, I agree with Aridhol about mines. I feel that if you have a tunnel lit with torches (not a cavern) OR any area with wood supports that any ore body contiguous to that point is yours to mine. Cherry picking in a cavern (a few torches in a natural opening) confers no rights as I see it. If you dig into another persons mine I recommend leaving a 1x1 "window" with a torch placed in it as a marker. Sorry to ramble on so.... thanks for your time....really enjoying this server and the people that play here
  10. The OLD Roanoke Thread

Thanks very much Bob. Are you set up for donations btw?
  11. The OLD Roanoke Thread

So.. in a Clue paradigm it was "Samaban near the portal with the hickory stick". Case closed.
  12. The OLD Roanoke Thread

Thanks Bob... sorry for breaking in on your vacation
  13. The OLD Roanoke Thread

Even if the Nether did work I say no-way to its use. If people start using the nether to travel I am gone gone gone. Just my opinion but TFC is where I hope to get away from exploits.
  14. The OLD Roanoke Thread

Just want to wish everyone on Roanoke Merry Christmas and a special thanks to Bob for providing this wonderful venue for all of us (I don't think I would have learned as much in single player)
  15. The OLD Roanoke Thread

I have to agree with Holy_Shield (see... it does happen). Ban Killster for flying and crashing the server...... don't need cheaters here.
  16. The OLD Roanoke Thread

So.... I would be on but I am immersed in the mystery of updating friggin' forge :/ I'm sure it will be an improvement but its drving me slightly mad right now. Any advice would be welcome as I am not very technical.
  17. The OLD Roanoke Thread

Good ideas Amanlu. I guess I would recommend starting without any materials but I am not strident on that point. Maybe I am warped but I don't mind an evening 'round the fire pit cooking stuff (but that's just me and "easier" has never been my favorite MC word). As to the railway I would certainly be a navvy and would recommend a north-south alignment to link different biomes.
  18. The OLD Roanoke Thread

Yeah... gotta go with a white list in my opinion. New map? I could live with that BUT I have relatively little effort into the whole thing so I would defer to those who would be most impacted. A white list would allow us to build a transportation web... if we did on a targeted open server it would just bring the bastards to our homes. I was also wondering if we could do some kinda server tree nerf? The oversupply of trees and saplings is making a mockery of the survival ethic. Thanks again Bob for all your efforts.
  19. The OLD Roanoke Thread

Hey Bob. Just reporting that someone stole all (and I do mean all) of my stuff and poked holes in my bridge. It happened between 1730 and 2230 hours today. I don't know if you can do anything or not. Please message back if you can. Thanks. P.S. I live near spawn in the old wooden tower.
  20. The OLD Roanoke Thread

    Thanks very much Bob.
  21. The OLD Roanoke Thread

Hey Bob. A number of new (and seemingly nice) players have logged on and say they are not on the whitelist. Just thought a heads-up was in order. Thanks again for your efforts on the server.
  22. The OLD Roanoke Thread

Hello Bob. Just wondering whats up. I am still interested in your server but would like to know where I stand regarding the whitelist. Thanks for your time.
  23. The OLD Roanoke Thread

I see that you are white listing now. Please consider this as my application... bbushh is of course my account name.
  24. Decreased sapling / wild grass spawning

Thanks for the welcome Kimbble and Wolf. Multi stage tree growth would be amazing but that might be "moon shooting". Howz about greatly nerfing sapling growth speed (2 or 3 years), leave sapling spontaneous generation but no sapling drop when whacking foliage? This would make saplings a bit more valuable as you would have to gather them rather than getting piles of the little horrors when gathering sticks. That way our good friend Bioxx wouldn't need to do too much recoding (fat lot that I know about coding :/)
  25. The OLD Roanoke Thread

Hello Bob... Firstly, thanks very much for providing this server for all of us to enjoy....its a nice group. There was a major grief raid on Yoyo's village that did horrific damage... he could only stand by as they rampaged seeing as there is no pvp. The persons involved are named ath3na, mendelevius and Gmodcinematic. Their permanent exclusion would be much appreciated. Lastly my peronal whine.... would it be possible (and not too controversial) to mitigate tree growth to some degree. The over-richness of the soil makes for a "Wizards Apprentice" experience when harvesting trees. The productivity makes it so that wood really has no value and there is no need to range afield for product as it grows so rapidly you can't even remove it from the landscape. Please Bob... save us from the trees
