      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. The server has been updated to 0.78.6. Those bugs are present in the previous 0.78.5 version. We can always choose to regenerate the map at a later time if we want to, that's no reason to not update right now. The update solves a lot of issues we'd otherwise have to deal with Like Jixero said, we now have an overly complicated seed dispencer at spawn. It looks like this: I just hope they used the ChestRegen plugin to keep those chests filled
  2. After a gruesome and short test period we're finally ready to announce that the HappyDiggers TFC server has been updated to the latest and greatest 0.78.5 version running on Minecraft 1.6.4. This server brings many new (TFC) features and advantages that weren't possible before. Among the changes are: Block and inventory logging meaning griefing and stealing is pointless, it's all logged.Lock your chests, barrels, armor stands, etc. with a (Lockette) sign.Ticket system. No staff online and need help? Open a ticket! You can set multiple private warp points using /sethomeModerators can finally do their jobs. They can kick/ban abusive players. They can teleport players. They can become invisible to investigate reported players. We can update plugins without having to restart the server. We can easily move spawn when resources near spawn run out.We can easily regenerate chunks should they become corrupted.Enjoy the server and if you encounter any problems, please report them here.
  3. Another update. Looking at the issues we're having when running MCPC+ and TFC, the current server we're building is looking less likely to appear in it's current format. These are our known issues that seriously influence gamelay: MCPC+ Player Inventory does not update after death Reported here and here. Anvils eating double ingots. Reported here. Hunger and thirst bar do not get filled after death. Reported here. Bioxx has said that he currently does not intend to spend time fixing issues with TFC and MCPC+ which is understandable. There's only so much time he can spend fixing bugs. That means we can either try to live with the current list of issues and hope the MCPC+ devs can solve the issues. We could wait to see if Bioxx might change his mind later on. Or we go back to a Forge only server. Right now I'm really not liking the prospect of running a Forge only server. That would mean we loose the following: No block logging. Can't prove who griefed something and no way to undo damage without rebuilding. No locking of TFC inventory blocks. Anyone in your town can steal your stuff. No ticket system. If no staff is available, your only option is to go to the forum and ask for help.No ban aggregation. Known griefers can join at will.No private warp points for players ("weekend warriors").Moderators can't do their jobs. They can't vanish to check up on reported players. They can't inspect player's inventories. They can't kick or ban players. They can't teleport players. Only admins (OP) can actually help players but only in a very limited way putting more strain on our staff. The ability to update plugins without server down time. The ability to easily move spawn when resources around the current spawn are depleted. The ability to easily regenerate chunks if they become corrupted.A couple of others but I can't remember them of the top of my head right now :BThoughts?
  4. MCPC+ Player Inventory does not update after death

Ok, I can understand that. You only have so much time and you need to choose what you spend it on Just to clarify for anyone searching this same issue. The only mod we are running is TFC. While troubleshooting the issue we removed all the Bukkit plugins and can reproduce the same result. MCPC+ with only TFC shows this behavior. Also running the MCPC+ version mentioned above makes it so that a player's hunger and thirst bars aren't filled after dying and respawning.
  5. Hotfix #: 0.78.3Suggested Name: MCPC+ Player Inventory does not update after deathSuggested Category: AnnoyingDescription: Running mcpc-plus-1.6.4-R2.1-forge965-B251 and TFC 0.78.3. After player dies, inventory does not update upon picking up items. ie: I die, respawn, break a flower, pick it up, and cant see it in my hotbar. Invisible items can be "refreshed" if they are moved within the inventory. Items then show correctly. Disconnecting and re-connecting to the server fixes issue as well. This issue has also been reported to the MCPC+ GitHub https://github.com/MinecraftPortCentral/MCPC-Plus/issues/971 The issue does not occur if you remove TFC from the installation. Unfortunately that does not make it clear if it's a MCPC+ or a TFC issue. Have you deleted your config files and are still able to reproduce this bug?: YesPastebin.com link of the Crash Report: No crashes occur for this issue.
  6. MCPC+ Player Inventory does not update after death

I understand that it's a forge mod and as such you can't guarantee compatibility with other server types then regular Forge. However if you want to run a good public server, then in my opinion MCPC+ really is the only way to go since there aren't any decent Forge mods for server management compared to Bukkit's vast ocean of plugins. MCPC+ is essentially Forge and Bukkit combined with some magic glue code from md5. It's not perfect, but it's the best solution for public forge servers by far. Also we've been testing the HappyDiggers AMP mod pack on MCPC+ exclusively. It's a mod pack with over 170 mods in it and we've not having any issues so far. There are other mods that change a player's inventory that do not have this issue. Tinker's Construct, The Camping Mod, RPG Inventory, etc. So it's not impossible to manipulate inventories and be compatible with MCPC+ Perhaps you could consider testing TFC on MCPC+ also? If the extra work for it is an issue, the HappyDiggers staff could do the testing. Is there a list of test cases we could work through?
  7. It might be worth mentioning that the server Roadie's been playing on is running mcpc-plus-1.6.4-R2.1-forge965-B251 @SunsetSpecter, what kind of server were you guys playing on? Regular Forge or MCPC+?
  8. The new server is coming along nicely. Although it took more effort then we initially thought. We switched from MyTown to Towny because we couldn't get the MyTown permissions to work reliably. Initially we didn't want to use Towny because it doesn't protect against Forge mods. However TFC doesn't use any fancy machines, mining lasers, quarries or magic spells that can manipulate blocks. So Towny will suffice. We've changed the Towny and Lockette configs considerably and are now able to protect most if not all inventory items from TFC. By default all those things like doors, anvils, tool racks, etc. are protected inside of towns from outsiders. You can further set permissions for the plots you own inside a town to even prevent other town members from accessing them. If changing permissions is a bit much, you can also use Lockette to lock those things by placing a sign on them with the following on the first line: [private] Right now we're testing the plugins for stability and if all goes well I'll put the new server up on Sunday night or perhaps Monday.
  9. Thank you for your insight guys, it's much appreciated. After all, without feedback it's hard to know what people think I get that people play TFC because of the challenge it provides, and I don't want to take away from that by forcing players to do things a certain way. It is one of the reasons why you only need TFC to join the HappyDiggers server. On the other hand we have the "weekend warriors" as Roadie called them. I would like for them to be able to enjoy the game as well. These are just two examples of play styles, and there are many more. So everything ranging from hardcore to casual with lots of variety in between so to speak. If we want all those players on a single server, we need to cater to them in such a way that we don't force players into doing things they don't want to. That can be difficult. Especially when players get jealous of other players using something that their own 'code' prevents them from doing, like teleporting. The new server we're working is giving us a lot of luxuries we have come to expect from our other public servers. There is block/inventory logging so griefing and stealing is pointless, it's all logged and you will get caught.Known griefers can't join the server due to ban aggregation. (If you got banned on 10 different servers, you're not joining ours.)We can set spawn reliably now so we can easily move the spawn area around periodically which will help with resources being depleted around spawn. There is the ability to lock all your stuff: chests, doors, clay jars you put on the ground, anvils, armor stands, etc. This prevents your fellow town's people from taking your stuff.Players can ask for support, even when there are no staff members online using /ticket <your problem goes here>.Moderators can finally do their jobs as moderator on the TFC server with abilities like: viewing player's inventory, becoming invisible and seeing what they are up to, checking for grief/damage, kicking/banning players, etc.Grief can be undone by admins, although we do expect you to protect your builds using MyTown. Those are all things that will help us make the server a better place for everyone. TFC is fine, but without these additions it's also pretty much the wild west. Most of the complaints we've had will be solved with this. That leaves the question of: should we allow teleports. We once ran a Towny server that had no teleports at all. A few people, I think Roadie was one of them, loved it. If you wanted to go somewhere you first had to dig a tunnel, build a road, or take a boat. Most other players hated it though because they don't want to spend their time doing such things. They just want to hang out with their friends, maybe build something, and overall have less ambitious plans on the server. The result was that there were only a handful of players on the server, which dwindled into nothingness over time because "no one is ever on". Like it or not, having people on the server does add to the overall atmosphere of the server and the community. Even if those people don't play the same way you do. Therefore it is my opinion that it's a good thing to at least try to keep both sides of the spectrum happy. That means not forcing players into convenience mods/plugins, not forcing players to rough it all the way, not forcing players to clutter together. It also (somewhat) requires players not to expect that everyone plays the same way they do. If you can accept that someone else plays differently from you then you should be able to get along just fine. The way someone else plays shouldn't affect you at all if you're not living together, which you don't have to That all being said (cudos if you're still reading!) the new server will have the ability to teleport to other player's towns just like the current server has. However you can now protect your town better by sealing the town's spawn in a small room and locking the door. Also players will get the ability to use /sethome for multiple locations. Think of these as private warps. And for those that really don't want people wandering into their towns I'm thinking about setting up a way for players to request a, one-time only, relocation to a far away place. The idea is to have a range of coordinates, one near the equator and one in a more temperate zone, with 100.000 blocks between each point where we can relocate people to. Please share your thoughts on this wall of text
  10. TFC Build 78 is upon us! Finally we can move on to Minecraft 1.6.4. This will solve so many problems every server owner has had Work has begun on the HappyDiggers TFC b78 server. It's going to take us a bit of time to set up all the new mods and plugins and (briefly) testing them for stability. Things we'll be adding include: Proper permissions so mods can do more to help the players.Block place/break and inventory logging. This should help figure out who griefed or stole something.Ban aggregation. Known griefers won't be able to join the server.Ticket system so players can ask for support even when there is no staff online.Since world gen has changed in B78, the new server will have a brand new map. I'm currently pre-generating a 10.000x10.000 map to get players started. As with the current server, there will be no world border, players can go where they please. Expect the new server to be up in a day or so
  11. Thank you, glad to hear it To better help support players we have promoted KodeKatt to the rank of TFC admin. She will help out whenever possible so don't hesitate to ask her if you need anything.
  12. The HappyDiggers TFC server is governed by a custom startup script. Among other things this script queries the Minecraft's server's query port and checks the ForgeModLoader-server-0.log file for crashes. If it can't query the server or finds a crash in the log file it will automatically restart the server. Unfortunately TFC will sometimes 'hang' which means the script can still query the query port. Also when this happens it seems that the server will sometimes start a new log file ForgeModLoader-server-0.log.1 ForgeModLoader-server-0.log.2 etc. So the script will obviously not find any crashes in the original log file. So we've added another check to the startup script. It will determine which log file the server is currently using and check that for crashes. Hopefully this will reduce server downtime in an automated fashion even further
  13. [Offline] The MiningTerras Server Is Back! [Now with plugins!]

BukkitGui is a nice tool to manage servers. But as far as I know it can't detect server crashes and automatically restart a crashed server. That means as your server becomes more popular you'll have to keep close track of it due to TFC's current instability. My servers all run on Linux so my custom build startup scripts won't be of any use to you since you are using Windows. I don't know of any Windows based Minecraft server managers. But if you ever decide to switch to Linux then you may find this useful: http://msmhq.com/
  14. [Offline] The MiningTerras Server Is Back! [Now with plugins!]

Don't worry about it, TFC is currently very unstable and any server will crash regularly as a result. Just make sure you have a good startup script that can detect the crashes and restart the server automatically. My server has crashed exactly 202 times since we started it a little over 75 days ago. There is not much you can do to prevent the crashes. So the best thing to do is to learn to live with them and hope he TFC devs will fix the crashes in an upcoming release
  15. B78 Pre-Release Live-Steam 04/08/14!!!

    W00000!!!
  16. I'm sorry to report that one of our idiot admins was dumb enough to change the time on the server. As a result TFC broke.I have restored the latest available backup which, as it turns out, was yesterday's backup. Today's backup, the one from april 1st, failed. As always, as soon as a backup fails you need it.So as of a few minutes ago from when I post this, the server has been reverted to 2014-03-31 09:51 CET. For those of you who don't know how to translate to CET, that's about 1.5 days of progress lost.I'm really sorry about this. Pernix wishes to remain anonymous so I won't mention his name. But suffice it to say he'll be severely punished for his stupidity.
  17. The spawn area is in a town called "spawn". To get there you can use the MyTown spawn command /mytown spawn <TownName>. In short you can use: /t spawn spawn New players joining the server should get teleported there automatically from the floating bedrock contraption at the 'natural' spawn.
  18. I'm actually quite amazed at how the community on the HappyDiggers TFC server formed. It's far more popular then I would have expected. Since I don't actually play there myself, we'll just have to see how long it lasts. As long as people are enjoying themselves there I'm fine with maintaining the server As for adding mods to the server that players are forced to install, that will never happen. We aren't maintaining a TFC mod pack ourselves because TFC is left behind at Minecraft 1.6.2. So just plain TFC will have to do. I don't want to make it harder then necessary. I am going to release a client-side only mod pack for use on any TFC server soon-ish. But people don't have to use that, it's strictly client-side mods / esthetics / cosmetics. We are currently setting up a new spawn area on the server. We have just finished setting up a new spawn area. Reason being that the current area is cluttered with towns. New players can start fresh with untainted lands and mining opportunities. If you like you can take a sneak peak on our Dynmap. Some people have asked why we don't just delete old towns. I have decided that I don't want an economy system where people have to keep on playing just to prevent their towns from being deleted. For this same reason I don't want to force players to be active. If they want to play on our server, they are welcome. If they decide to leave and come back later maybe, that's fine also. Deleting the old towns won't get back the resources those towns have consumed or undo the changes they made to the world. So instead we're moving the spawn area with some tricks. Again, if we were on Minecraft 1.6.4 or later we could use MCPC+ and Bukkit plugins to take care of this in a good way. But for now we'll just have to use command blocks
  19. I was checking out some of the other TFC servers, but unfortunately most of them were empty and Roanoke requires me to sign up to their website to download their mod pack. Guess that makes HappyDiggers TFC the place to be then
  20. I've increased the plots per player. Players now get 64 plots to protect their towns. That should help people who want to claim things like an island or a farm area. If there's anything else you guys need just let me know.
  21. The More Player Models mod has been added to the server. This is an optional mod, players are not required to have it installed to play on the HappyDiggers server. Also KodeKatt was kind enough to show us around her place on the server. She's chosen a unique build style which tries to integrate all her buildings into the surrounding terrain. Walking through the maze-like paths in the jungle was amazing. Have a look
  22. That's true. We had a huge lag spike on our server a couple of days ago. Thousands of mobs were trying to spawn all over the place, it produced a 3.5GB log file. Only thing to do is restart the server and hope the problem goes away, which in this case it did. The TFC devs have a poll regarding update frequency running here. Please let them know your opinion. If you want the server crashes to stop, getting TFC updated more regularly will absolutely help. Also getting TFC to Minecraft 1.6.4 or later will instantly make all the TFC servers better over night because server owners will finally be able to use Bukkit plugins to better manage and enhance their servers through the use of a stable MCPC+.
  23. Thanks for the suggestion Would it require players to also install that mod before they are able to join? Unrelated to More Player Models. Today KodeKatt shared his gaming rig with us. Apparently someone didn't believe he was getting 500+ FPS while running TFC. He has an amazing setup with most of his hardware submerged in mineral oil
  24. With warriorofcats as our guide we visit the town of Valemoore on the HappyDiggers Terra Firma Craft server. This is part of a (somewhat) weekly series where I hop on the TFC server and take a look at some of the cool stuff people are building there.
  25. Update Frequency Poll

True, most vanilla based weapons and armor are useless in TFC. But there's more to mods then just hit points. And since the development is an ongoing process more and more mods will find a way to become compatible with TFC. It doesn't always have to be TFC that adjusts to a mod, the other way around can also happen. Mod authors could for example detect TFC's presence and adjust parameters accordingly. But the main requirement for that is that TFC is available on current Minecraft versions and that you are willing to discuss such things with other mod authors who may have completely different ideas about their mod in combination with TFC from what you envisioned for TFC. I know it's tough finding good staff. I've been looking for another admin to help manage/develop our servers for about a year now. The vast majority of applicants aren't up for the task. Forums however can be moderated by moderators Moderators can only edit/hide(soft delete) posts and warn/ban people. They can't change forum settings or destroy anything permanently. Moderators therefore are much easier to find. You could setup a selection process in which people have to explain why they meet the criteria you set. Having applicants write an intelligent post will give you insight into their grasp of the English language and train of thought. I'd recommend only accepting people who have actually been active in your community for a while or who can prove they are trustworthy. In our community the staff chooses other staff members. We never accept people asking for a job. If we don't know, like and trust you; you won't become a staff member ever. Having a couple of moderators tend to the forum will give you more breathing room to do other tasks. Perhaps you could also look for a dedicated wiki contributor or two. Delegating is very important. Trying to do everything yourself will eventually cause you to burn out instead of enjoying what you do. I'm talking from experience here. Try managing 11 Minecraft servers, two mod packs and a YouTube channel. Doing it all by myself would be way too much. Right now I'm still too busy with all of that so I'm still looking for more people to help with that. But as I said before, it's hard finding good staff. So in short: find trustworthy people to help you. I'm sure there are a few lurking on these forums
