      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Help with Updating

6 posts in this topic

When updating TFC, do I need to reinstall everything again into the jar or is it enough to just take the new core, and insert and replace everything?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not entirely sure, but I think for most updates it will be okay to just pop the new stuff in over the old. I won't swear to that though.

Personally I always just backup all the old files and do a completely fresh installation for the update to be on the safe side. That way I know there's no conflicts from older files, and if I want to revert to an older version I can do so fairly easily.

I've become a fan of MultiMC - you don't have to muck around inserting/removing class files etc, just drop the files in the 'insert in jar' folder or the 'insert as mod' folder - it then rebuilds the jar automatically

a couple of silly errors crop up (breaks instead of creating a new /mod folder etc) but works wonderfully - add a mod , run, resolve id conflicts, add next mod (or add em all at the same time)

true, but messing with jar files isn't exactly that hard to do either. Also having a non-premium account, make's using multimc a issue.

On topic, I just do a fresh install every couple of updates or so. I think im gonna way until releases are stable and there is more than a day or two in between them.

If you don't have a Premium account how are you playing anything but classic?

There are cracked minecraft exe that bypass the official login mechanic. You can put in a username and still play just as if you were premium, except in multiplayer, you don't have a skin except default steve, and if the server has online mode set to true, you can't join without premium. But it works for people who just wanna play with a few friends and have enough ram and decent internet to host a server themselves.
