      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. I have to disagree with this idea. Although it may be more believable, the game has to balance between being difficult and believable and simply too tedious to enjoy playing. It can be tedious enough building a whole building/structure/road out of bricks, but it is still enjoyable. If you over complicate the process too much and tilt the scale to far in the wrong direction. Just my personal opinion.

  2. I agree with the backpacks part... impartial at the moment on the rest.

My two sense on the backpacks would be to tweak the inventory system a bit. Perhaps have the inventory size be reduced (or not) and have a couple extra equipment slots like the armor slost only one for a pack and another for a quiver. When the pack is equipped it increases the inventory size and when the quiver is equipped it adds a few specialty slots for arrows. Another thought... which I'm fairly certain has been suggested before... is too have a craftable seed bag in which you can store all your seeds.

Anyways, those are my random musings on the idea of a pack. Pretty much just what I've randomly thought about while playing. I will admit they aren't as well thought out as I would like them to be but I thought I'd share anyways.

  3. Well, Avii is amazing and made the current version of Simply Horses compatible with TFC as far as horse health and such goes. And I found a better alternative to custom items. Custom NPCs allows you to create custom recipes as well and the admin can do so (or anyone with the proper permissions) in game.

  4. You also get additional "thirst points" allowing you to store additional water in yourself. Maybe this works for "hunger" scale too.

Is this information in the wiki? I tried searching for it but could not find it. If it is, could someone point me in the correct direction, if not, would a wiki editor be willing to add this information?

  5. I wasn't sure if I should post the crash log, it not being actually related to TFC. But if you are willing to help, here it is:

  6. You need to add 255 to values in TFC.cfg:

    WroughtIronIngot is 16293 (16037+256)

    SteelIngot is 16301 (16045+256 ( 16031(+256) is blacksteelingot))

I don't know what do you mean by Woodblock but :

id for planck block is 5 and metadata is 0-15 (0 for oak to 15 for kapock) (metadata if you need special wood in ur recipe, no metadata means any type of wood works)

single planck is 16977 with same metadata

logs : 16298 with same metadata

Okay... So I fixed those errors, thanks btw, but it still doesn't work... when I try to place the last item in a recipe, minecraft crashes. Here is my new code:

I actually think it has something to do with either the TFC items or the Simply Horses Items. Those seem to be the ones that cause crashes.

  7. So... I'm working on using this to make Avii's Simply Horses 100% compatible with TFC, to help me through my wait for TFC horses. I wrote the code out following the instructions on the mod's wiki page, but for some reason cannot get it to work. The mod itself loads (if there is an error in my code it crashes minecraft), but the recipes don't work. Does anyone have some experience with this mod and could help me out? Here is the code:

  8. I've had ore disappear in a bloomery on a server and then randomly come out as platinum. It has happened with both cassiterite and copper. I think the issue is not removing the platinum after having magnetite in the bloomery.

  9. I'm bumping this thread to ask a question of the TFC community and, more specifically, the developers...

I am currently working on a mod for personal use along the lines of this suggestion which, in its released incarnation, will be one that is fully compatible with TFC but only uses Vanilla items. It won't modify any base classes (although it will use Forge code to replace existing recipes if I can get it to work right) and won't contain or overwrite any TFC functionality, with one exception listed below. The idea behind the mod will be to make wool and dyes something that take a lot more preparation to fit the theme of TFC. I'd love to expand the color options as well, but I don't foresee that being something I can do without modifying core classes, which I don't want to do in order to maintain compatibility.

Here is a basic rundown of what the mod's functions are:

    1) Create a spinning wheel that will work much like TFC's quern to spin string into wool; the conversion rate would be 8 string to make 1 wool, and the spinning wheel will have a moving part that takes damage and will need to be replaced over time (again based around TFC's quern)

I like the general idea behind this, but in my opinion, instead of string becoming wool, make string become silk or cloth

    2) Change sheep drops, both from kills and shearing, to be string instead of wool * This is the one exception I mentioned, as it would be changing the functionality of sheep kills and shears.

Again, like the direction you are going here, but I would keep wool as sheep drops, but require that it be processed in some manner. Having grown up in sheep country (my high school mascot was literally the Sheep Herders), I can say that string does not equal wool. And sheep are dirty creatures and sheering is dirty work. So, it makes more sense to me to have wool drop, but require some cleaning/processing.

    3) Make standard wool blocks unable to be dyed with the standard recipe

    4) Create a custom dyeing pot with a furnace-like GUI, which will be crafted using clay (current model will be hardened by leaving out in the sun like Millenaire's mud bricks) and fueled with sticks + water, and will have slots for dye ingredients along with the desired amount of string. Over a period of 12 Minecraft hours, assuming a valid GUI recipe was put in, the sticks and water will be used up to turn the string into dyed string (and thus spinning dyed string into wool will create the colored wool)

Would you mind explaining more the reasons behind each facet of this process. In my opinion I would require a mortar and pestle to crush die ingredients (such as cactus greens or roses) and then have the furnace-like thing be a bloomery-like thing, only you drop the dye, a bucket of water, and the wool/fabric into it and have to wait for the results.

Now for my question to the TFC community: Is this something you would all be interested in having? I am designing the mod specifically to fit the theme of TFC, while maintaining total compatibility with vanilla and not interfering with TFC itself (since it is still in beta after all). I'm a huge fan of TFC's approach to the game, making it lean a little more towards realism without going to the extreme, and making finished products require more time and effort to make than simply plopping a couple items into the crafting interface. As I mentioned, this mod is being built for personal use right now, but if the TFC community is interested in it, I can put it up for you guys to download once it's all finished up.

And my question to the TFC developers:

My vision for this mod is to ultimately make use of various TFC mechanics, but I am respecting Bioxx's wishes to not directly mod TFC or use its components since it's still very much in developmental beta. Here are the specific TFC mechanics I'd love to make use of:

-Change dyeing pot mechanics to "start" by using a TFC firestarter

-Incorporate various TFC items into the recipes, such as lemons for acidic fixing solutions and knives for cutting plant petals

So, with that in mind, would you (the developers) be interested in incorporating this into a future build of TFC or into the work-in-progress TFC2 once I have everything working and bug tested? I would be more than happy to provide the source code to you, even a modified version of the source code with the foundation of the changes to make it use TFC mechanics so all you'd have to do is pretty much fill in the correct ItemIDs and add a block of code to the right click function of the firestarter.

Overall I like the general direction of this, but there would be a few changes I would personally make to the processes.

  10. Thanks for the feedback!

Also, some people in the forums really, really don't like it when you double post. I personally have no beef against it, but I would recommend using the edit button if you need to change/add something to a post, rather than double posting.

  11. Interesting. Though I prefer the smoke stacks rather than waypoints (unless they were in place of the smoke for performance reasons).

That was my thinking. Also the fact that not everyone has a computer capable of supporting the largest render distance. I figured with the waypoints it evens things out in that regard. I also should mention that I don't think that the smoke signal markers should have any other information on them such as distance or anything.

  12. I was just playing TFC and thought to myself... jeez I have a lot of extra saplings, wish I could burn them.

That's when I came up with the idea of using saplings in a fire pit to create smoke signals. So I searched in the forums and saw that there was a post that spoke briefly about using charcoal pits as smoke signals. However, I'm not talking so much about a visual representation of smoke signals, but more as a way to mark things in the world. Somewhat similar to Rei's Minimap's waypoint.

Rather than creating a huge column of smoke, the smoke signals would actually create an icon in screen, as shown in these photos:

    Up Close

    Farther Away

To keep this feature from being to op, there would be some constraints on it. First, the smoke signal will not last forever. Each sapling loaded into the fire pit would only extend the smoke signal's life a certain extent. To balance this feature there would of course have to be a way to load more than four saplings at a time, perhaps with a different max limit.

The other constraint would be the distance you would be able to see the marker. The farther you get away from it the more it fades until it disappears completely. In which case you would either have to turn around and return to your starting point, or create another smoke stack to mark your way.

    2

  13. you could also maybe plan stuff out better. if you find yourself in a position where you have litterally nothing to do but wait on charcoal, then you have a poor strategy to remain engaged in TFC. Do things like make simple shelter, gather wood and rocks, start making your charcoal pit as you secure food and other starter resources, then light your pit and continue to do those types of things EG make chests for future goods, secure enough stone for a small house when you do have metal tools, gather wild crops/meat for food, ink for plans, anything.... Finding yourself in a position with nothing to do in TFC is because youre playing wrong, virtually everything about the game is designed to require your time.

I wouldn't exactly say that he is playing wrong. As was said before TFC is a sandbox game. Each person plays it his or her own way. There's nothing wrong with doing things step by step if that is simply how you like to do things. On the flip-side, the game shouldn't be altered in a major way because of one particular person's playing style. The mod creators have created this game with a specific vision in place and the difficulty of obtaining things like charcoal are just a part of that.

One thing I might suggest as a solution Rook; if you have the ability to do so, try creating your own server. Then you can let the server continue to run while you do other RL things and can return to the game when it is finished. I've done that before with my own personal server. It's a nice alternative to all the waiting around that can happen in SSP.

  14. Okay... the whole time I was reading this thread I was thinking a rare golden chicken that lays golden eggs as a nod to Willy Wonka's golden goose. Not sure what the significance of the golden egg would be though.

  15. I get completely lost incredibly easy both in real life and in the game. I pretty much need it at this point. Although I am trying very hard to use the waypoints as little as possible and to eventually work without it, since you can figure out directions using the sun. However, I do also want to use it to record distances on road signs in the future.

  16. I've been playing TFC for a few months now and have set up my own private server as well. Unfortunately I do not have many friends that play Minecraft, so having my own community of my own friends hasn't worked out. Since TFC can become pretty lonely fairly quickly, I've decided to begin looking for a server or two to join on the forums here. At first glance it seems like this server might fit well with my TFC personality. (Which to be honest is just my RL personality. ;) ) So if you are still looking for people to join, I'm interested.

  17. Pretty much accomplishing any goal. I have a habit of cycling through two or three (sometimes more) different worlds with various goals for each of them. On my server I created an mining camp, then went on an epic quest to find copper... and found a motherload of it about 5000m away. Currently in the process of building a road between the two.

On my SSP game that I just started yesterday after giving up on server lag issues I'm in the process of prettying up my settlement and setting up enclosures for each of the different animals. Two down, two to go. My goals in that world are fairly scatterbrained at the moment, but I enjoy each small accomplishment.

So... in short... just about anything.

  18. I've been using an inc sac, but I have also tried a marking just to be sure. I'm wondering if I should reinstall everything to fix it. Really want to avoid doing that if possible though.

  19. Hmm... not sure what exactly I am doing wrong. It is just a shapeless recipe of a book, feather, and ink sac, and yet no combination of those three items works for me. I tried deleting the configs in case that was an issue, but it didn't help.
