ATTENTION Forum Database Breach 03/04/2019
There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again. -
This forum is now READ ONLY! 01/20/2020
As of this post and forever into the future this forum has been put into READ ONLY MODE. There will be no new posts! A replacement is coming SoonTM . If you wish to stay up-to-date on whats going on or post your content. Please use the Discord or Sub-Reddit until the new forums are running.
Any questions or comments can be directed to Claycorp on either platform.

Actually I was talking about real life.
So was I.

Also, there is absolutely no way to smelt iron with charcoal. It burns too fast and doesn't get nearly hot enough, even with bellows.
You sure on this? Because I know some people who have done it.

I think he said iron because copper and other metals don't react good to constant bending. Copper is easily workable, and bending it everytime you use the shears could easily break it. Same for the copper alloys, but that's just my thoughts.
Heh heh the things I take for granted working with iron all the time.... I really ought to branch out and try other metals.

Draw->punch->upset is just a technique sequence that vaguely represents making and setting a rivet. No need to make an extra item actually appear and get used up during those three moves.
And yes, I was thinking of something more like pruning shears. Welding probably would be more appropriate for sheep shears.

If the knife blades will be weld together it will be impossible to move them, I think it should be possible to create screws in the anvil and then craft them with the knife blades. This way sheers will still require iron. Their durability will depend on the material the knife blades are made of, which is great.
I'd be more inclined to use a rivet than a screw. Involves simpler tools and you could sort of encode the process in an anvil recipe already -- something like draw [not last], punch [not last], upset [last] (ok, peining a rivet isn't exactly upsetting, but whatever).

A couple smallish things...
1. I'm not sure if TFC does this, but the consensus I hear from other blacksmiths is that charcoal burns away faster than pit coal.
2. I find cooking on a forge more believable than cooking with pit coal (green coal as there is no coke in TFC), having smelled burning coal and cooked meat on a forge.

There just isn't much reason to require a pickaxe to move an anvil
Yeah... I've repositioned an anvil IRL. I've never used a pickaxe IRL. The long time it takes in game to break one by hand is definitely justified though

Broadly speaking, I like to see new and interesting ways to accomplish things. In Minecraft, that often means using clever architecture (for productivity, defensibility,etc.).
The one thing that annoys me most in LPs is when the LPer doesn't really know the game, but I don't think that's a serious risk here.

theese are really easy to implement.
Ok, I'll bite. How would you go about implementing them?

It might be fun to write a script for running this process in all possibilities.
Yeah, it's only a matter of time before TFC drives me to just write a toy ILP solver ¬_¬

I've had this happen with ash trees (smaller trees -> axe doesn't break part way through). In a dense forest, chopping the base of one trunk may fell multiple trees. Breaking leaf blocks so the two trees aren't connected seems to prevent this.

Use for lead, smithing practice

Given how soft lead is when cold, you probably wouldn't actually get a feel for this by practicing with lead.
