      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

abandoned mines

better looking collapses and natural movement (create talus slope geology)

7 posts in this topic

hi there

this is only a quick thought, but something that might look rather interesting in game

what if when blocks that have gravity could move like a talus slope when on a steep hillside ?

this effect would occur when blocks that have gravity are exposed to water (ie rain or a stream of water from a bucket)

instead of the blocks simply moving down the hillside as blocks, why not have a liquid effect ?

when the liquid effect hits the nearest level surface, it reforms into blocks creating a talus slope

these are simaler to mud slides except made of stone and gravels.

each time a talus block is disturbed, it would flow down the channel created by the talus slope and pile up on top of the other blocks.

my hope would be to create an effect simaler to this

the effect would be that weak materials from on top of the mountain would slowly erode and pile up in a large fan

i am open to other ideas as this was just something that might look interesting :)

edit 1.

i am thinking a better name for this would simply be "Talus slopes and natural erosion effects"

This may take a lot of processing power to calculate.

may take a lot of coding... but it would definitely look cool! :3

o well hmm

i wonder if there could be a way to do it without to much coding / power

North of Montana? Or have i lost my geology skills? We talked about something similar although not the same idea once, this one was a similar mechanic used to prevent single block towers. I can't remember the outcome I just remember my argument. If we can't get finite liquids right how are we going to make finite solids? This is going to take a long time for and almost unnoticeable affect. Although it would look amazing.

It would look epic and I want it but O god the pain of coding that!!!

why not just have the fans of rock / gravel spawn naturally as part of the landscape ? these could just be for looks in more dry / desert biome.

one thing with these could be you could have a high chance of finding fossils or gems in the rocks that have come off the hillsides

we could also have bolders and larger rocks poking through the talus slope any other thoughts ?
