      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Whats planed for minecarts and such?

13 posts in this topic

I know the current minecart stuff are just place holders for now. I was wondering what is planed changes for minecarts and stuff?

I read some where that bioxx wanted minecarts to be almost a requirment for deep mineing, and that sounds great, but how exactly is he going to do that?

I really hope the chest-in-a-cart gets removed, not only is the very concept dumb it also looks stupid. I figured he will do away with rideing in the carts and have them used to only carry rocks and ores. Maybe adding hand pump rail carts for us to ride and push other carts?

I assume powered rails are also going to be removed.

I would hope that he will add something along the lines of hand pump carts and the normal carts are just for ores and stone it would also be really nice to have a way of linking these carts so that they move all together just a lil thought on that.

Roller Coaster Tycoon? :D

But hopefully storage carts will get a new look, maybe a standard cart when empty, and then shows rocks and such in it when full, though maybe that isn't practical.

By the time most people get iron, they already have what they need. Plus that iron can go to something better like armor or weapons.

Mine carts are purely a luxury item. Maybe if you didn't have to go through such a great progression to make iron ingots it would be viable, but currently it isn't.

Why only for Ores?

You could transport other Players with it too.

why only iron to make minecarts if you want to shorten the progression the faster collection of resources would help this thus make the minecart and track out of something lower then iron

What could you possibly make mine carts and rails from that aren't weak? I mean bronze could be viable but there's a reason people use iron and steel in the real world for rails.

Yes but we don't have hundreds of tons rolling over our rails at one time either really =p But there is a discussion over in the suggestions part of the forums for this exact what is brought up here

I also mean real world minecart systems.

We should be able to use any metal to make rails. Perhaps the different tiers could reflect the speed with which the minecart is able to go over these rails. For instance, with Bismuth, my overwhelming abundance of this nearly useless ore could be turned into "Bismuth Rods" on the anvil and then, with a piece of wood in between the two rods, I would have one or two "Bismuth Rails." Because Bismuth is one of the softest metals, the minecarts could only go so fast on these rails. If I were to upgrade to Wrought Iron or Steel rails, however, my minecarts would be able to travel much faster.

I don't know how difficult it would be coding wise, but there could even be an amount of times a minecart could go over the tracks before they got warn out and were unusable or needed to be replaced. While that might be a huge coding workload, it could be offset if only certain ores/metals in each tier could be used for minecart rods/tracks. i.e. Only Bismuth, Copper, Bronze, Wrought Iron, and Steel could be used.

I do, however, believe that being able to send minecarts, on their own, to return to the surface is essential. They shouldn't require a player to be able to make it back, as that's how minecarts are/were used in actual practice. To offset this, maybe players can't use carts as transportation, who knows.

As others have mentioned, I also think it's instrumental to be able to create minecart trains--at least 3 or 4 cars long. With each car having as much storage a chest (1 row), creating an efficient minecart track system would be important to stream-lining your ore processing.
