      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Multiple crafting outputs

6 posts in this topic

Several crafting recipes should produce various byproducts all in one.

For example,

When splitting logs into planks with an axe, it should produce some sticks as a byproduct.

When sawing logs into planks with a saw, it should produce sawdust as a byproduct, which may have a use in some other application.

Napping stones should output what you make as well as the spare stone (so it doesn't need to toss it)

Perhaps some small tools would produce metal scrap as a byproduct, which can be recycled and combined with other scrap bits to make a full ingot.

What I had in mind was basically a 4 square output at the end of crafting grids to allow for a recipe to produce several items at once.

I'm sure that you guys can think of several things that would benefit from this. The idea that every craft must always compress into a single item is a bit absurd.

I honestly think it would be reaaaally hard to make 3 planks out of a log with an axe... If something other than air is left, you would be god-like when using the axe .-.

Already suggested...

Ever tried to shift click the result of the crafting you do to start knapping? it places the spare rock in your inventory if you do so.

And which small tools do we have, exactly? ._. i even think some tools that take 1 ingot should take 2...

Even though this is nice, and you are right when you say it's a bit absurd... well, we already kind of have a way to have multiple outputs from a crafting. Crafting a cake, which requires 3 buckets of milk, gives you both the cake and the three buckets. Or in knapping, shift clicking instead of just clicking. In vanilla, crafting is made around the fact that you are basically doing just one task at a time when crafting something, so it's logical to have only one output. However, they came across the cake, and then left us a way to have more than one output.

What i myself think is that the crafting grid should not have an output slot; instead, like the anvil, it has a slots to place stuff in, and a button that says "craft". If the items you placed do have a result, this button will be highlighted and you will be able to click it to obtain the item, which would appear in the same grid where you placed the initial items. This way you can have up to 9 outputs from a single recipe. How 'bout that?

Multiple crafting outputs is sound on it's own and could be useful, but the ideas you have supplied aren't good.

Just saying you completely tossed aside his idea. His idea was to have byproducts, yes already suggested, as a result of everything you make. Not having multiple options of results from the same recipe, though that would be cool.

I suggested a different idea that points to the same end: being able to have multiple outputs for a single crafting recipe. And i did so 'cause i didn't agreed with his idea on how to do it ._.

So... yes, i DID tossed his idea aside. Was it necesary to point it out?
