Finding Gold!

As the Title.. I'm making my world a swiss cheese (if you know i mean gruyere), there are a lot a vertical tunnels, because i'm searching igneous 3rd layers in the hope to find a decent amount of gold, or silver..

I've never found native silver, and only a such small vein of gold that i could not uncover it, and i found it only because i was flying in creative mod, and obviously for honestly i couldn't mark it or mine it..

my question is if is it possible to find a big vein of these metals, because i can't find them and if there's a easier way to find them of a biome, rock type they spawn often

Hi, I have found huge vein in previous seed at this server:

it was native gold in amount about 500 pcs (+- 200), but it was under water so no direct down hole could help (I did horizontal exploring from emptied copper mine)

and I also could remember native silver vein in about 200 pcs

It is possible, though the chances of finding such a vein is relative to searching for gold in the waning months of the Gold Rush.

But TFC worlds are virgin, so it can't be relative to searching for gold in the waning months of the gold rush, it should be at the begininning of humanity, when no one cares gold because all care only about eating and copulate

It's a comparison, in all honesty.

The gold that we found on our server was pretty much intertwined with lava. I haven't found anything higher up than that. We also found cinnabar in the same area.

Definitively is a matter of luck, because starting a new world i found a large vein of gold right next to the tunnel i excavated right below the zone where i settled for building a house, so gold is not a mirage but only a rare thing

According to the wiki gold can be found in andesite, basalt, dacite, diorite, gabbro, granite and rhyolite. I've driven dozens of kilometers of tunnels through gabbro while searching for garnierite and never once encountered any gold. So if there's gold in gabbro either it is exceedingly rare or I am exceedingly unlucky.

I seem to recall finding gold in granite once. All of the rest of my gold finds have been in basalt, and that included a couple of "very large" deposits which provided me with more than enough gold for the entire game. So now, if I'm looking for gold, I go for basalt below 70.

Garnierite (nickel ore) doesn't spawn in basalt. It only spawns in gabbro.

Yes, I was referring to how much mining I've done/luck. Gold also spawns in gabbro supposedly, and that's what I've been mining, but I've only found nickel.

I need to mine basalt now, sorry for the confusion.
