      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

squids

This may be a dumb question, but i have searched the wiki for an answer.

Squids perform a rather vital part of TFC, but we cant find any. We played TFC through to the point where we needed them to make our first picks, so went looking for squids to get the inksacks and then make markings. we have gone all orund looking in every lake, river and ocean around our home base. one of us even picked a direction in the ocean and kept going with the hopes of bagging just one! do squids spawn in with different rules or biome specific or something because without them we cant make a pick and progress much further, we are fortunate that there is a LOT of bismuth spalerite and cass,,,whatever lol so I am assuming (hoping) that thers good veins of it around us.

any help would be good :)

Honestly you are just very unlucky. Every time I walk in the stream by my house I get ink sacs from squids that accidentally beached themselves. Try placing a couple jack-o-lanterns at the bottom of a nearby lake, and then just wait; Squids like light. If your server has changed the mob spawn limits in the config, try changing that as well.

Agreed, just bad luck. You could try building a squid trap near a lake.

Find a small-ish lake that's 3-4 tiles deep in the middle, dig it deeper if needed.

Fill in an outside edge where the water is only 1 deep.

On that same edge, dig 8 tiles away, so that the water flows away from that edge to dry earth.

Squids that spawn there and move to the edge will get pushed to dry land by the water flow and die.

If your base is near a lot of deep water, it's not worth bothering... but if you're landlocked, with limited water options, it works nicely. Just wander by and check for ink sacs sitting there.

in my single player game, I have a river in front of my base and it's always full of squid, on TT server, I have a underwater dome and often see squids if I go outside

lol, yup REALLY unlucky yesterday, went on today and killed 2 of the buggers, so yesterday was so far the worst tfc day for me :)
