      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Irrigation - source block spawning

4 posts in this topic

I love how source blocks cannot be moved until red steel, forcing the player to farm near water sources, but this mod could use a minor tweak to add more options.

Basically, water sources should be able to spawn at higher elevations other that sea level.

I've been wanting to set up an aqueduct system that can irrigate a huge farm.  Unfortunately, the world gen does not have any water blocks spawn above sea level, so I'm pretty much limited to 11 blocks away from a source (7 blocks of the "stream" + 4 blocks of irrigated farmland)

Lakes high in the mountains would also have a nice aesthetic aspect too.

This would be neat.  If I remember from dunk's stream then there are hot springs spawning near volcanoes at a higher elevation.  I fully support this suggestion though, there is nothing I like better than to go up to the mountain lakes in the adirondacks.

It is something I think should be included in world gen for TFC going forwards. As with the opposite, aquifer layers. Not as useful for farming but a well can be built out of it.

One of the shifty things I do to make a large farm is find an area with surface ponds/lakes in close proximity. Then join them all up as best I can. Squaring off to make the amount of source blocks as large as possible. Then using all the collected dirt, fill the lakes in to make large farm plots. Digging up and source-ifying a river bend works well too... It just isn't crazy enough for me :).

You get some (a lot of) thatch and settle near ocean then.

On an irrigation topic, I wanted to suggest clay canals for transporting liquids a long time ago, but didn't get around to it.

Basically what it is is an overhaul of liquid transport.

A set of blocks:

- First one can be connected to water source and allowing water to flow more like 63-ish blocks instead of 7 (water flow "height" decreases every 9 blocks), but does not act as irrigation source.

- Second one acts as an irrigation source, but drops water flow level immediately where it is placed.

Those could also be used to transport lava and liquid metal (if latter is ever added).
