      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[Vanilla Bug] Riding a boat desyncs your position

Suggested Name: Riding a boat desyncs your position

Suggested Category: Annoying

Description: When riding a boat your position on the client and your position on the server differs more and more the longer you ride the boat. Even if you stop and wait for some time, the position is not synced again. Relogging re-sycs the position, but that usually puts you far back where you have been some time ago.

The desync makes you unable to re-enter the boat, as you are too far away but according to the client you are right next to the boat. You will ram islands (or other) because you are driving on a different path than what you see from the client.

I am not sure if this is TFC related or a vanilla bug, but I never experienced this in vanilla, but then I rarely use a boat.

I don't think its a vanilla bug. There might be a bug in the vanilla code which causes boats do desync by small amounts, but in TFC, boats are utterly useless.

It's a vanilla bug that TFC exacerbates. The vanilla does the initial desync, and then the resource heavyness of TFC just makes the problem worse.

can the vanilla bug be fixed or overridden?

It's a pain with oceans being so big...

For the meantime I always carry some more extra boats and drive around islands in a big slope.. I also noticed that if you have animals on a rope with you, they lag quite far behind but the rope wont break. I think they indicate your real current position.. So what could be cooler as having a chicken navigator :P
