      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[0.78.16]/[0.78.17] Chunk Protection Resetting

4 posts in this topic

[uPDATE]

Some more rigorous testing has shown that the protection survives quitting and returning to the map, but not a subsequent chunk unloading.

[Additional update]

Issue still present in 0.78.17, with a fresh config deletion.

Whatever is going on, it seems to fully circumvent the spawn protection in chunks which have been unloaded recently, regardless of the proximity to protected chunks. If I walk away until half of my base is unloaded, and return, the chunk protection meters that stayed loaded remain green, and the ones that were unloaded (previously green) revert to empty. Mobs will spawn in ANY chunk that was unloaded, even one adjacent to ones with fully green meters which should have weeks or months of spawn protection left- that is to say, the 5x5 protection radius from a chunk with protection is ignored on recently unlaoded chunks, and respected on ones that remained loaded.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Version #: 0.78.16 (map started on 0.78.14)SSP/SMP (Single/MultiPlayer): SSP (SMP untested)Suggested Name Mob spawn protection resetSuggested Category: Annoying

Description:

When I start a game after quitting, or walk far enough away from my base that the chunks unload, it seems that spawn protection resets to zero for some length of time.

As this is my main base, located right next to my feilds and my most important mine, I've spent many Minecraft days on the site, so the protection should be maxed, or at least close to it. If spawn protection builds up without my letting the chunks unload, it functions normally.

I cheated in some protection meters to try to diagnose this, and it seems that when the chunks unload, the protection resets to zero for some length of time; after spending a good amount of time in the area (say, the better part of a night, maybe 6-10 Minecraft hours), it then returms to maximum protection as shown by the meters. Mob spawning behavior matches this.

All settings are default.

If it helps at all, when foraging/exploring, I often rush back to my base at dusk, so I arrive shortly after the sun has set; shorter foraging sessions (usually returning to the base shortly after Minecraft noon) seem to restore protection before it's dark enough for hostile mobs to start spawning.

Have you deleted your config files and are still able to reproduce this bug?: Yes

[update, again]: No mods besides TFC have been in use.

On a related note, I think the protection meters are not working right. They always show full green bars, even when i was away for a good time.

As i know - fully charged protection meter will protect 5 by 5 chunk area for about a few minecraft month

The first post has been updated with some new observations.

I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue, since if it's not happening to other people, I have a few things I could try to make sure it's not a problem with my setup. It's a bit of a pain, though, so I'd rather not start down that path needlesly.
