      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[79.6] Logging in can cause chiseled blocks to crash the game

3 posts in this topic

Version #: 79.6

SSP/SMP (Single/MultiPlayer): SP

Suggested Name: Logging in can cause chiseled blocks to crash the game

Suggested Category: Severe

Description:

When logging in to my house the game often crashes with a NullPointerException. The crash started to appear when I chiseled a block in my roof (just turned it into a detailed block, no actual chiseling done) to allow light from a jack-o-lantern to get in. The lantern is sitting right on top of the chiseled block.

Have you deleted your config files and are still able to reproduce this bug?: Yes

Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed?: No

Crash Report:

java.lang.NullPointerException: Unexpected error

Do you have a lot of chiseled blocks in the area?

Having too many chiseled blocks in an area crashing the game has been a very longstanding bug, and the only way for you to recover your save is to open it up in MCEdit and delete a few of them. From what we've looked into so far, this is a limitation of the Minecraft Engine, and not your machine power.

I currently have 5 detailed chiseled (not worked, just turned into the detailed block), a good amount of stairs and lots of smoothed stone.

I can log in sometimes, it has about a 50% chance to crash or load normally.
