      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Slowed movment from tall grass

6 posts in this topic

Do you think being slowed by tall grass would be interesting?

As I was walking thought the forest to get some clay, it got me thinking about trails. I make paths to near by location mainly for decoration but I was thinking, if tall grass slowed your movement a little bit, like leaves do making paths would be more useful and when going though new forests it would feel like your trugging through new untamed lands.

This idea fits well within the range of believability, the main question here is does it fit for game play. I can already see some cons for this idea but I'll let you bring up your own.

Its a good idea from a gameplay standpoint

This is however part of the whole some terrain slows you down idea

Basically the issue here is that Better Than Wolves did it first. The devs find it annoying that so many people keep comparing TFC to BTW as they have completely different design goals and have very little similarity other than they are both low tech total conversions.

They aren't fond of adding features that were added by BTW, even if the features are obvious ones that people would have easily thought of even if BTW was never created.

Adding to this the fact that terrain slowing seems like a painful way to add realism to what is supposed to be a game especially if there is no mechanic to undo the slowness (ie snow shoes, boots for mud, etc).

Mechanic for undoing slowness: punch the grass/trails.

All good points, I did have a feeling this idea had more cons than pros. I mainly wanted to see what the general though on this is.

I'ts "believable" and I could live with it, but I'm not excited by it. : )

Maybe only half the slowdown of leaves though (pushing through meter-tall grass is easier than pushing through branches).
