      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Improving TFC Terrain Generation

31 posts in this topic

Yes, that's what I'm talking about! something akin to DF, but grander. I'm all okay with generating world for hours even though I can only see a small part of it. But for Minecraft... I can't agree more.

About the plate tectonic generator, the man who made that thesis I linked there does made a software that is quite light. It has been done. And judging from the data table in the thesis(somehow down), it doesn't have to use a supercomputer to run PlaTec. It's packed with the source code, too. It's in C++, so it's rather comprehensible.

If you wanna taste how DF worlds look like in Minecraft(vanilla), take a look at Dorven Realms. TFC doesn't work with the generated map, though. No idea why.

That looks pretty awesome but I bet I know why it fails... It has to do with the way TFC builds its layers, ores etc.

Yep, pretty much what Kitty said, Balthizar. Very unlikely to be compatible.

First, I like your approach to world generation. Maybe you could make a mod for vanilla?

Different Question: You said that java can't stand the generation/it would take too much time. Wouldn't it be possible to use something different for a faster generation, and then insert the world to minecraft? Like a extern world generator, which you could run oder night (or someone gives a server for this, ...), where you can choose the specific terrain (maybe, if someone writes a mod, you could also choose the height of the map),  the level of detail, ...

I hope you can understand it, and sorry if it's completely crap :)
