      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Hello everyone! I'm new here, not only to this forum but also to this mod. I love it. It makes me feel like a noob again. I've played for a few hours now but everything is still kind of chaotic; just how I like it. I was making my first tin pickaxe when I thought: "what are my goals?" The answer soon came to me. I want to turn the area into a complex of practical buildings like a farm, a granary, a mine, etc. Getting resources in TFC can be a tedious process. I have nothing against that. It only makes the game more rewarding. But it also means that building epic structures isn't going to happen. Luckily I don't want that. I want my buildings to look humble, and every building has to have a use. This doesn't mean I'm just going to build a few wood/cobblestone boxes. I want it to look nice too. Big projects require planning. My project isn't huge, but I prefer to know every single item I'm going to need. First I looked around the area to see what resources are available to me (in the form of rocks and trees). RocksIn my biome: Layer 1: Rhyolite Layer 2: Dolomite Layer 3: Andesite In an adjacent biome: Layer 1: Chert Layer 2: Granite Layer 3: Andesite In a third biome, a little further: Layer 1: Rock Salt Layer 2: Granite Layer 3: Rhyolite Rhyolite and Chert are the easiest to get, and after that Rock Salt. Dolomite and Granite are also options, but getting Andesite is going to be too much work. Trees Oak Birch Ash Pine Sequoia Willow Sequioas are big trees, but they don't have saplings, so you can replant them (right?). Personally I think Willows are ugly. Ash and Sequoia (the planks) go quite well with Chert, but I like Birch (planks) and Pine (planks and logs) the most. Like I said, I want every building to have a use. So I thought about what we actually do and use in TFC. I have divided everything into three aspects. FoodAnimal farm (for breeding) Tree farm Other farming stuff (seeds, fruit trees) Granary (storage for food, seeds, wheat, every item that has something to do with eating) The "food" part of the complex is going to take up a lot of space, but won't require much thought as regards the design, except for the granary. Mine Bloomery Forge Anvil Metallurgy tabel Scribing table Sluices Storage (rocks, minerals, ores, ingots) Entrance to underground (railway system) I know minecarts don't have much use (yet), but they look so awesome that I want to do something with them anyway. I want to seperate the smithing room from the entrance. The smithing room doesn't have to be big, but I want multiple anvils, forges, etc. It just looks better that way. There's also going to be a couple of sluices in an outside area. A big storage is probably needed, so I want to make that a seperate building. Actual house Kitchen Storage (for remaining items + tool racks) Bedroom Other rooms that won't really have a use (library, etc.) This is the most aesthetic part. I said that I wanted every building to have a use. The house doesn't really have a use here, but let's just make an exception. I've had some other ideas for more aesthetic buildings, like a small dock for "ships", but I will ignore that for now. First I'm going to toy around with some designs to see how that goes. For me it's the hardest part, so suggestions and comments are welcome. If not, maybe I can help you with my very original designs! Granary/Barn Original ideaAt the moment I'm working on the granary. It's going to be a small symmetrical building, probably in the form of a cube, with a sloping roof. It's not going to be more than 10 blocks wide, and inside it will be 4-5 blocks high (more if you count the roof). It will have openings at every side (like I said; symmetrical). It's a bit weird for ganaries to have openings, because everyone can just steel your food, but that will always be an issue in Minecraft unless you use iron doors (and even then), so I'm just going to ignore that. And besides, I don't even play SMP anyway. It's probably going to be a combination of cobble (Rhyolite), log piles (willow lol), birch planks, birch supports and pine tree trunks (you can place them now so that's great). I was thinking about a slightly elevated floor (1 block) made of cobble. Support beams as a sort of see-through wall (only around the 4 openings). Might be I will change the 4 openings to 1 opening because of the chest placement problem you get when you have openings on every side. Inside there won't be much else besides chests. Actual design I finished the design. I ditched the original cube idea. It wasn't really practical. Now I made into some sort of barn, with not only food storage, but also log pile storage (integrated in the roof). I used a lot of support beams, only for aesthetic reasons (everything is build with wood except for the floor/base). I just think they look nice. They make the room look a little less square. Maybe I overdone it a little (like the horizontal support beams between the chests), but I think it looks nice. Upstairs looks a little empty, but there isn't really much room for chests, and I thought I could use it as a hidden log pile storage. The back The front Inside downstairs Inside upstairs Here are some more pictures: http://imgur.com/a/f7bfW#0 Resources needed: Cobblestone: 192 Tree trunks: 16 Plank blocks: 192 Ladders: 5 Log piles: 375 Vertical support beams: 70 Horizontal support beams: 95 Torches: 24 What do I need to harvest? Birch logs: 513 (using a saw - log piles will only store 1 log) Pine logs: 16 Sticks: 14 Rhyolite rocks: 192 I'm not counting the items I need to make the tools (mainly a saw). I'm going to need to build a birch tree farm for this. Getting the rocks isn't going to be hard. If anyone has build one of the buildings I'm building him or herself, please post pictures! Ideas are always welcome.
  2. ... and see what happens! I have planted 9 saplings of each tree type in a big, open desert area yesterday (playing on RaiserCraft server). Today, I came online to see if they had grown yet. I was surprised, and sad, to see that they hadn't. So I went on with other work, when all of a sudden trees start to pop out of the ground like crazy. This big, open area turned in a forest in the blink of an eye. All around me, trees popping out of the ground one by one. It was beautiful to see. I will harvest the trees and plant them again, and this time I will catpure it for you. It was amazing . I wasn't able to collect all saplings (you know, with the floating tree sapling bug). Some of them started to disappear. But it was fun all the same. Only the pine trees didn't grow, and one willow because the others blocked the sunlight. I use torches and 5 blocks space in between every tree, but that still didn't help. Here is a screenshot (not nearly every tree is visible here):
  3. Try to plant 9x14 trees on a server...

Hmm, maybe. But at around the same z axis there are some wild pine trees. I replanted them, lets see what happens. The vid might take a while. Collecting all the wood takes long, and I want to get double the amount of saps from each tree. Only then I will be able to replant again.
  4. Try to plant 9x14 trees on a server...

Oh, I know it is normal, but i just thought it looked really cool. Weird though that the pine saps don't want to grow.
  5. Trees Info discovery

It has something to do with the wasteland grass (the dirty grass type). As long as grass doesn't grow on the blocks your saplings are on, any sapling should be able to grow in any area (well, almost any area that is. Don't go too far to the north).
  6. Winter in TFC

I noticed that it never snows in TFC. Maybe it does if you go north, where the temperatures are below zero, but no one goes that far north. No trees grow there. Somehow in TFC snow and trees are related; trees don't exist in combination with snow. I think this is a pity. I would love to have snowfall in TFC winter. Snow slows you down, something I quite like. Snow can f*ck your crops up. Snow can make areas look totally different. Snow could cover up ravines and make "bridges" at the side of mountains. You would need to look out, otherwise you could fall to your death. I know this sounds a lot like a suggestion, but I am not sure if it doesn't snow in TFC. I guess the rule is that if the temperature is below zero, it snows instead of rains. If the temperature drops at all in winter (never checked), it will never get below zero. Maybe at some points in the world, but not at a point where trees still grow. A more diverse climate would be cool. The only way to live now is in the same moderate climate. Go too far south and you will only find barren plains. Go too far north and you will only find barren plains, but with snow on them.
  7. I found Douglas Fir!

I'm playing on a server and I need some Douglas Fir saplings. I can't seem to find them. Does anyone have picture of a Douglas Fir tree, like the whole tree and not only some blocks (I can find those on the wiki myself). What would also help if you can tell me at what coords you found the Douglas Fir. Was it near a mountain biome? Was it near other types of trees? I'm using build 52e btw but I don't think that really matters. Thanks in advance! And the great mystery of the Douglas Fir has been resolved. I just downloaded B62, created a new world, and TADAAA! I spawned in a Douglas Fir forest. I was kind of surprised by how they look like. They don't look like pine trees at all. That was kind of the look I was expecting. I think the size is awesome. I would love to see more big trees, but not huge trees. Like the size of willows. I know almost every tree has a "big" version with branches, but those are very rare.
  8. Winter in TFC

People also thought they saw Douglas Fir, while it didn't even exist.
  9. Underground

lol Caves can be really big in TFC, especially the "lava caves". But they are not as rare as I thought they would be. Not as rare as I would like them to be, actually. I hope there will be more "special" stuff underground. New things to discover.
  10. I found Douglas Fir!

No, no, not at all. I just had a different image in my head. Yours is actually better in my opinion. For some reason, I had Douglas Fir as some sort of christmas tree in my head.
  11. Why are we only spawning south?

Bioxx just changed the spawn location. You can spawn anywhere from -3k to -15k. This is great, but why are we only spawning south? Is north just the same as south, only... north? I guess then there is no reason to spawn north, because the only difference is that there won't be a "-" before the coords. I have been north and as far as I can tell it's not that different. There were tons of oceans, but there are tons of oceans everywhere in TFC. Nothing new there. Still, it just feels weird to only spawn south. Is there a reason for this?
  12. [Solved] B64 Doors instead of ores

Hahaha, that sounds like a funny bug. It would get annoying after some time though.
  13. I found Douglas Fir!

14. Winter in TFC

    So it's a forced choice.
  15. Winter in TFC

Ah, I thought something like this was the case. That's why I didn't make this thread in the Suggestions section. But to be sure; will it snow in winter when the bug is resolved, even in places where trees still grow (-15500 or lower)?
  16. Official b60 bugs list

    - In frozen oceans/rivers, lily pads "drop" on the ice. The same goes for sugar cane in frozen areas. - Blocks that have pebbles/rocks on them don't have snow. This looks weird in snow landscapes. I don't know if this is a bug or if there is just no other way to do this.
  17. Why are we only spawning south?

No one said we need other ways. I made this thread to ask why we are only spawning south (or north, as it turned out to be). And I got my answer so I guess this thread is done.
  18. Timed crafting

I'm not sure what you mean. I thought Bioxx or dunk or whoever had planned to do something about construction, making it more believable.
  19. Why are we only spawning south?

Well, who cares anyway. It is just a number. I'm sure something in the code could be changed to switch the -z value with the z value. It would still be the other way around, it would just look like it wasn't. One way or the other, does it really matter?
  20. Timed crafting

Wasn't there going to be a construction update? IMO making planks should be left the way it is now, but making wooden blocks (from planks) should require nails. And nails should be forged. Not every metal should be suitable for nails. Or maybe it should, but there should be a difference between metals. I am wondering where Bioxx is going with the new "walls". No idea what that is going to be like. I hope it is the beginning of a series of construction updates.
  21. Why are we only spawning south?

Ah, that's what I was hoping to hear! I would love to have a more diverse world. It's already much better than vanilla. If -z is north, does that mean -x is east?
  22. Douglas Fir saplings don't grow

Yay! Douglas Fir should now grow properly. See the B61 changelog. I hope this also means that we will see spawned Douglas Fir again.
  23. Douglas Fir saplings don't grow

Apparently this is a well-known bug, but I don't think anyone has reported it as of yet. It's hard to test. I planted some Douglas Fir saplings along with Pine and Willow saplings. The Pine and Willow had no problem growing (I used TMI to advance through time quickly), but the Douglas Fir didn't grow. It might be the saplings just need some time. But when do I stop testing? The fact that multiple people have said to me that Douglas Fir saplings didn't grow, led me to the forums to make this thread. Another note; I'm not even sure if Douglas Fir spawns at all, at least not in 52e. Not going to report this as a bug, since I'm probably just not looking the right way. Or I'm just unlucky. But TheWolf227 also didn't find any Douglas Fir, and that was in build 60. As of now, I have seen no proof that Douglas Fir spawns. Probably related to the fact that the saplings don't grow?
  24. Douglas Fir saplings don't grow

Using TMI in build 52e I can get them. No prove as of now that Douglas Fir spawns, not only in build 52e, but also in build 60, according to TheWolf227 (thanks for checking, Wolf!). Probably related to the fact that the saplings don't grow?
  25. I found Douglas Fir!

Wolf, I saw that you have Douglas Fir in your B60 world in a thread in the Support section. Could you please post a screenshot of a Douglas Fir? Not only for proof, also because when I'm searching for it, it helps if I know what it looks like. Thanks in advance!
