      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Inventory Space: Oh my god it's a thread about Inventory

Now this is thought-out at least - this I can deal with. Though being able to carry only like one tool and one weapon or two tools or weapons at a time is annoying, especially earlygame, and at this point backpack is a must pretty much. Unless someone would also change tool size so it can go on a belt (in medium slot).
  2. Enchantments and Alloys

You won't get a faster pickaxe with a sharpening stone - you need something with a blade. And other bladed tools aren't greatly benefit from this either, especially stuff like scythes and knives (knives benefit damage-wise). Axe - maybe, but you'd still generally want more durability - it's no vanilla, where you have to cut every block individually.
  3. Dynamic alloys everyone asks for ..

If we are talking about a game here, there would be no such things as sharpness, hardness, flexibility and weight there been spoken of - because unless you leave almost meaningless in actual metallurgy durability and item power, the metal's properies should obey the rules they actually do in life to be believable. I'm not asking devs to use actual numbers, see, - I'm not unreasonable. Just the rules themselves. Heat capacity and melting point aren't so meaningless, so they don't have to go away, but they do should obey the graph I posted here. And actually, when I think about this, heat capacity should be another property that can use weighted average system, although it wouldn't be completely accurate.
  4. Transportation Infrastructure

I really don't get those that are obviously so MLG they don't use anything in the game unless they absolutely have to.
  5. Dynamic alloys everyone asks for ..

And that would be exactly where you are wrong. Because for the mix of two metals the melting temperature graph alone looks something like this (I'm sorry it's in Russian, that's just quicker to find for me. Also, this isn't the exactly accurate graph, for the metall alloy it should be two straight lines, as far as I understand.). This would be how you determine if bucket will melt, when you try to move lava, or not, for example. (Note that no combination has higher melting point than one of the pure elements of compound (element B in this case).) Now imagine this if you have more than one element for alloy. And you should also note that something like brittleness has far more complex graph dependencies than melting point, and the weighted average rule applies only to the weight of the alloy pretty much.
  6. Dynamic alloys everyone asks for ..

Even if you just concerned how it looks to the player, there is severe issues in this. I expressed some of those in my previous post. And you too can experience those if you try to work out how it should work for alloying more than three metals at a time.
  7. Enchantments and Alloys

That makes sense and can work. But how would player know if it makes enchantment or not? Does he make the tool? Keep in mind, current system doesn't keep track of proportions, so you technically should get enchanted ingots or something of the sort. Other enchantments outside of efficiency and unbreaking aren't believable as well, are you suggesting just not using them? And, I can understand copper not having it, but what about iron and steel?.
  8. The weird side of YouTube

I'm bringing this topic back. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rim-m4Wtcqo[color=rgb(90,90,90);font-family:'Open Sans', tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;font-size:13px;]
  9. [TFC 0.78.9] ExtraFirma Addon v1.0.4

It's Smart Moving thing, not ExtraFirma's. Smart moving doesn't like mods adding ways to climb in general. It's already wonky with TFC chiseled ladders feature, so its behaviour with ropes is no surprise. Suggestion from me: Maybe brick by brick building of blocks? As in: Apply mortar, place brick, repeat - each time a brick is placed, it adds a quater of the block, so two placed bricks would be a halfslab, and three would be a stairs block.
  10. Dynamic alloys everyone asks for ..

That's fine and all. But. First, it's miles more difficult to code than what you imagined. What flexible means? How should properties' peaks distribute on the gauge for every combination (bacause there ARE peaks). And I mean every combination. What if I just mix all metals in the game in the same proportion? Just for giggles? Consider that steel and wrought iron are different metals in this case. Second, what properties do you even have for tools in minecraft? Two. Durability and item power, that's it. At least meals can have three and random potion effect for that matter.
  11. Dynamic alloys everyone asks for ..

Yes. I said it couple of times too - it's not like "tin makes it more flexible, more tungsten makes it harder". That's highly nonlinear thing, and the more components you have - the more confusing it can be.
  12. [TFC 0.78.9] ExtraFirma Addon v1.0.4

I think he wants player arrows to have a different look to them to distinguish the arrows he can pick up from the arrows he can't.
  13. Nutrition: picking up where meals left off

I would like them to add berries. (Pshhh... texture files... pshhhh...) And mushrooms too - mushrooms are underrepresented.
  14. These aren't the same animal.
  15. Nutrition: picking up where meals left off

But the rough indication does not show what nutrition you lack, especially in one-bar approach.
  16. 0.77.11 bug and translation mistake

Turns out, those vanilla iron blocks I posted in this thread are also attracting zombies. If I lure a zombie close to them, it loses its interest in me and goes to stand on these blocks. I'm not even sure what is causing this. Other mobs seem unaffected too, but I haven't really tested it. Oh, and zombies that aren't angered by me seem unaffected by this and are just standing about, even in proximity to the iron.
  17. Regarding Powder Kegs:

It usually doesn't work like this, barrel should be completely full of powder to blow up. To lower the blast power we use phlegmatizers. It could be paraffin, ceresin, stearin or some oils, like camphor oil or olive oil (latter not really, but it's the only oil I can think of as available in TFC). It's actually good to not just have powder-stuffed barrels for mining, but phlegmatized powder kegs that don't require more materials, but more varied materials to build and use. Maybe normal non-phlegmatized powder keg should destroy blocks leaving just some on the ground, in this case.
  18. [TFC 0.78.9] ExtraFirma Addon v1.0.4

It may be balancing move, but you really don't want to use stone mortar and pestle, because it leaves stone particles inside of the medicine (especially considering pestle is breaking on use - it's exactly what I mean). Those particles can effect medicine quality in not a good way at all. Usually there are wooden or ceramic mortar and pestle. In this case I suggest using clay ones. Although you seem to want to make most of the medicine metal ages thing, in which case I'm not sure what can be done. Maybe woodcarved pestle made out of single plank crafted with a knife (maybe metal knife even) and ceramic pestle.
  19. Nutrition: picking up where meals left off

The main problem is interface. we can't technically allow player to see the actual values, however represented (numbers, bars, whatever) - it's not how it works with our body. And most other representations I can think of are confusing, if not more.
  20. Regarding Powder Kegs:

"Pretty sure" is not "certainly". There's only way to find out - place vanilla cobble structure and count blocks before and after the explosion.
  21. Challenge vs. Annoyance

Are you kidding me. The way you have said first three theses I quoted somehow makes me think those "large and elaborate structures" you build are not that large at all. Because I sure as hell build rail systems even in vanilla minecraft not just for novelty or the looks. I somehow find moving twenty inventories of stone to building sites uncomfortable. Again - IN VANILLA. Rail systems in TFC are not useless, although they are hindered. YOU don't use them. Because YOU would rather make a dozen of picks and walk everywhere. Because efficiency, I guess. Oh, and overcoming tedium of walking. I am sorry I caved in under the desire to yell at people, but I held it for a bit too long for my liking.
  22. Challenge vs. Annoyance

I wouldn't say rails are expensive. At the end of the day, it takes 4 ingots to make 64 of them. But the problem is - rails are end-game. Rails itself are iron age (and are annoying to make in current system - I'd definitely like them to be steel or have a crafting recipe using steel). And you basically require to pushi carts yourself. Mind you, the way carts join together makes it very annoying to push more that one cart at a time. And powered rails are black steel age thing.
  23. SMP Question!

Regenerating resources require to regenerate the chunks or mod in invisible entity blocks. You can just give players unlimited stacks of resources if that's what you want at that point. There's mods that can even limit the rate at which those stacks appear in the chests at spawn.
  24. SMP Question!

1 - I'm not sure what you're asking. Save copy-pasting will work fine. What custom map are you trying to "generate" on? Vanilla custom map? If that's the case, TFC should start to generate its chunks eventually, but TFC generation is almost incompatible with vanilla worldgen. There be huge walls and chunk errors. 2-No, they aren't. Some vegetables regrow, but that's not the same.
  25. Regarding Powder Kegs:

My bet is they are destroying just as much blocks as normal TNT/creeper exposions.
