      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Have you read, understood, and followed all of the rules listed in large text at the top of the support forum? (Yes/No): yes

Answering "no" to the above question will result in your post being deleted.

    TFC Version #: 0.79.27.903

    Forge Version #:  10.13.4.1558

Please note that an actual number must be provided for both of the above fields.

Simply saying "current" or "latest" will result in your post being locked, due to the fact that in a large number of cases, users who say they are using the "latest" or "current" version are actually using an outdated version.

    SSP/SMP (SinglePlayer/MultiPlayer): both

Have you deleted your config files or are using default configs and are still able to reproduce this bug? (Yes/No): yes

If you answered no to the above question, delete all 3 TFC config files (TFCCrafting, TFCConfig, TFCOre), do NOT edit or add to any of the files, and try to reproduce the bug.

This question is here because many bugs are caused by mistakes in config files. If you are unable to delete your edited config files, please provide a list of the config options you have changed.

Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed? (Yes/No): no

    If yes, which mods?

If you have Optifine or Cauldron installed, can you still reproduce the bug after uninstalling them? (Yes/No): Tested in singleplayer without anything else but Forge + TFC.

If you answered no to the above question, uninstall Optifine/Cauldron and try to reproduce the bug.

Both Optifine and Cauldron edit the base classes of forge that TFC uses. Because of this, we cannot officially support any issues that happen only when these mods are installed. In the majority of cases, TFC is not causing the bug; Optifine/Cauldron is and TFC can do nothing to fix it.

All bug reports should have an answer of "Yes" to this question. If you refuse to uninstall Optifine/Cauldron, and cannot reproduce the bug when the mods are not installed, do not bother making a bug report, as it will be locked and ignored.

Pastebin.com link of the Crash Report: http://pastebin.com/a9iSgvaj

    Description:

Minecraft loads. You get to see the main menu. Starting a new world shows the log generating the spawn area. Then when you actually join the local server the game crashes to desktop. The same happens when you try to join a standalone server.

  2. Status update.

The new Regular and Hardcore worlds finished pre-generating last night. The TechnodeFirmacraft world is currently at 34%. At the current rate it will take another month to finish. I'm going to see if there's a way I can speed things up by letting several Minecraft servers generate parts of the same world and putting them together afterwards. It'll be Dr. Frankenstein times one thousand!

The maps are quite large. TFC Regular and TFC Hardcore are about 108GB. The TFC Freebie map is currently about 8GB.

In the upcoming days I'll editing in the spawn buildings for the various servers and then I'll be moving Minecraft instances around on the server. Once that is done we can start building.

  3. Advertising that you have McBans and Prism is by no means an effective measure to prevent griefers on a non-whitelisted public server. We have a few small houses right next to spawn plastered with signs telling players that everything they do is logged and if they grief they get banned. We've banned several dozen people on those 'honey pot' houses alone.

Also inventory tracking is crucial to sort through the issues people create in town politics. There have been more than a few instances where players would take a bunch of items their town has worked on, and then leave that town to join another or start their own. Their (former)town members should have been more careful and not be so trusting. They could have locked their stuff to prevent untrustworthy town members from taking items. But the simple fact is that a lot of players will simply assume that not everybody is a jerk while in reality a lot of players really are jerks in varying degrees.

We've banned over 300 players from our TFC server alone. As you may know we enforce our server rules quite strictly to make sure that the server remains a safe place for players of all ages and walks of life. A lot of those banned players moved on to whitelisted servers (like DarkAgeCraft, hi :)). And as long as they follow the rules on other servers that's fine I guess. Point is, we've served over 10.000 individual players. So that means that, as far as we know, about 3% of TFC players are jerks that you really don't want on your server. They will ignore the rules, ignore warnings by players and staff and will try to get away with theft, grief and abusing others. Often times you really have to look hard to find what they did after they've been reported by another player. Having a good and complete lookup tool is often the only way to catch those perps. Blocks, block/item movement, inventories, mob kills, and everything that's entered into the chatbox, basically the whole list of Prism options should be logged (or log-able (is that a word?)) in my opinion.

To be clear. This is concerning a non-whitelisted public server. On our whitelisted servers I think we've banned less than 5 players in the ~4 years we've been running those. We use a community driven election process for access to those servers. In short, VIP members elect new VIP members. It's a slow process but it works for us for the most part.

  4. A little progress update. World generation on the new TFC Regular and TFC Hardcore servers is at just over 50%. World gen for the TechnodeFirmacraft world is considerably slower and is currently at 12%. That's going to take a while to complete, which isn't a bad thing.

The extra RAM for Sverf's server has been delivered. He'll try to upgrade somewhere next week and then move the FTB server there. When that is done I'll put up the TFC Freebie server and we can get started preparing everything there.

Then after a week we'll get started on the premium TFC worlds, and then a few weeks later TNFC. Not having all the servers ready to work on all at once will allow us to be more focused on one server at a time.

Also work has begun on two large Arks. One to the west of each TFC server's spawn. These Arks can be used by players to store their stuff for the server migration. Please work together to build these ambitious structures. They require quite a lot of materials and time to complete :)

    2

  5. We will try to migrate player inventories and skills to the new servers. Also plans are currently being made on our forum to build an Ark where players can place chests, barrels, etc. This Ark will then be moved to the new server. So you can just as well continue playing as much of your progress will carry over to the new server.

We will not add any mods to the TFC servers. However we are busy setting up a TechnodeFirmacraft server which does have Bibliocraft in it. You can find more information about this mod pack here: http://technode.enjin.com/forum/m/17014259/viewthread/24660669-about-technodefirmacraft

  6. We have made our plans for the future public. In short we will be adding more TFC based servers and one ARK survival evolved server. You can read about our plans here:

    http://happydiggers.net/content.php?488-New-server-plans-made-public

The current plan is to setup/configure the following (new) servers:

    • Lobby server, free
    • TFC freebie server, free
    • TFC regular, premium tier 1
    • ARK survival evolved, premium tier 1
    • TFC hardcore, premium tier 2
    • TechnodeFirmacraft, premium tier 2
These servers won't be up for quite some time. As always we won't rush things and will take our time to get everything nice and ready. During development of these server you can continue playing on our current servers.

  7. Banned thesurvivor2 for ignoring the rules repeatedly even after being warned and for being disrespectful to other players and the staff.

Well hope your server fucks itself. Ill find a better server with people that have better smarts than a fucking 10 year old paulette.

If you don't want to follow some simple rules, then please don't play on our server.

If you can't handle someone telling you that you're breaking the server rules, then please don't play on our server.

  8. Do I need to change the world generating code for my level type?

No. Terrafirmacraft will overwrite default world generation.

It sounds like you are running a vanilla Minecraft world on your server. It's sort of the same when you join the lobby on the HappyDiggers server. It's a Spigot sever with a bunch of plugins that we use to move players to when one of the TFC servers needs to be taken offline for maintenance, updates, etc. Because of this the sky was black at sea level because TFC's sea level is much higher than that of vanilla Minecraft. Because of this we have raised our spawn area on the Lobby server so it looks like a normal sky to all players.

Be sure that your server is running Forge and that the mods are being loaded. You can check this in the server logs or try joining the server with a vanilla Minecraft client, so without any mods on your client. If you can join the server without the required mods then your server isn't running Forge + those mods.

If Forge + the mod pack is loaded correctly and you still get a vanilla world, try the following:

    • Generate a world with the mod pack on your computer. Just start a new world, then save/exit. You only need the immediate spawn area.
    • Stop the server.
    • Delete the world folder on the server.
    • Upload the world from your computer to the server. Be sure to keep folder names identical to what they currently are on the server: e.g. "world".
    • Start the server.

You should now have a correctly generated world on your server which correctly generates new chunks if you move away from spawn. If not then talk to your hosting party.

  9. Sunday 2015-11-22 we will be upgrading our server. This means the server will be down for a few hours while we change hardware and work on the operating systems starting at around 12:30 CET.

The new server will have a 6-core Intel i7 5820K with 64GB RAM and will allow us to run a few additional large Minecraft servers. Details on those new servers will follow in the upcoming weeks.

  10. I may have come up with a solution that will prevent this Towny issue from happening again in the future. I have configured the database to only allow records in the towns table that actually have a mayor and a resident. Without either one a town cannot be entered into the database. It seems to be working under normal circumstances. I can create a town and remove it correctly.

  11. Here's something I wish I could do; I wish that I could round up a group of three or four guys, get on horses and do a lightning raid on some small hamlet. Think of the cultural impact that could have on the server, they'd gain a wartime mentality, they'd have an enemy and a clear reason to seek them out, and they'd spread that with the people they meet. Spin it around, it provides a possible gameplay perspective for me and my boys, we're mongols, we like pillaging!

Things like that can't really happen in any fair way because the servers won't be populated enough in the right places, or because the person you're raiding is into his black steel while you just made some bows and arrows. The alternative is the highly unfun; "I steal while you're gone" shit. That shit sucks both to perpetrate, and to be the victim of.

I'm also aware of TFC2, I'm hyped, but I'm also highly disinterested in waiting for the game to get it's polish, you know? I'm already waiting on a lot of things in my life. I'll be there when it's done, but hopefully what we're going to see is something with a bit more life to it.

If you like going on raids, grieving and stealing from other players then joining a Spigot server with Factions or a similar plugin to facilitate that would probably be a better idea. On pretty much any TFC server people who do what you want to do get banned quickly. It's just not fun being the victim of a bunch of pillaging mongols after you've put in hours of work just to get some precious metals.

I don't think there is a scenario where a meaningful balance can exist between griefers and non-griefers on a TFC server. You are starting your own server. I encourage you to try what you want to do and find out how well it works. You are certainly not alone in your wish for a 'chaos' server where people can raid, grief and steal. I get asked to allow this kind of gameplay quite regularly. I'd like to be proven wrong in my assumptions because I think it's always a good thing to have as many different servers as possible. It gives people choices on how they wish to enjoy the game.

Also I don't mind if you think our servers are bloated. Although I am interested in knowing what you think is bloated about our Hardcore server. Basically it's TFC + the bare minimum to prevent griefing and theft.

  12. Ugh...

After my first single-player experiences with TFC I went to play on a public server. Happy Diggers, the biggest and with oldest map, I think.

And I did not know how Towny works, I did not know I could teleport to other people towns.

They have a dynmap, so I found myself a spot I thought looks nice and I walked there. 20k blocks or something like that.

I died the first time, of thirst, while crossing the ocean near equator. I wised up for the second time and made myself lots of jugs, also a large vessel and a set of 18 small vessels.

By the time I arrived at my destination, I had a backpack full of fruit tree saplings, seeds, ore nuggets, skins and other useful stuff. I was able to make basic bronze tools (pick, saw, propick and chisel) on my first day in my new home. All on a highly populated server with a map that started a looooong time ago.

The fun is in the chase (for materials, animals) as much as in crafting and building.

This is pretty much how we look at things on our server. The world is 80 x 80KM in size, it's huge. The vast majority of resources still hasn't been depleted by players and the current map has had more than 6000 individual players on it.

It's true that on small maps world generation seems to be unbalanced. However when the map becomes large enough, you will get pretty much every combination of biome and resource available in TFC. Again, our map is huge so it has everything... with 1 exception. There was a bug in TFC when the map was generated that made it so that graphite would only generate in schist. This has, unintentionally, created a new challange for players. Graphite is rare on that map so either it's hard to find yourself or you need to trade for it. All in all I think it's made things more interesting.

As for TFC being a metal wank. You're just wrong. If you are one of those players that just has to progress through the tech tree to have fun, then that's fine. There's nothing wrong with playing that way. However TFC is more than just about getting the shiny red metal tools, just like regular Minecraft is about more than just getting diamond armor and tools. You should travel across the roads on our server and visit the towns see what people have build and the fun they've had doing that.

  13. This week I have purchased new hardware for our server. The upgrade is going to allow us to run 3 large TFC servers where we currently have only 2. Plans for those new servers are still in the early stages and it's going to be a while before they become active.

The new server will have an Intel Core i7 5820K 6-core CPU which I'll clock at 4GHz and 64GB of RAM. The new hardware cost around €1086,- and is payed for out of my pocket. The upgrade will allow us to roughtly double the amount of Minecraft servers we are currently running.

As always we'll keep TFC free to play on our server. However we will be introducing a new (additional) server for people who are willing to support our community through donations which will offer some nice perks. This will be a pay to enter server in accordance with Mojang's EULA meaning every player on that server is equal. Also we're not going to be giving players in-game items like some other servers do. This is TFC, get your own stuff!

If you have questions or suggestions please share and stay tuned for updates :)

  14. Sorry for the down time.

There was a problem with the Towny database. The root cause is that their devs use MySQL tables like they are an Excel sheet instead of an actual database. The difference being that in a database you can let the database enforce data integrity in such a way that you can, in this case, not have a town without a mayor. Also a player should only belong to 1 town and towns should always have at least 1 plot or more. It's pretty basic SQL stuff that unfortunately hasn't been implemented.

Because one town didn't have a mayor, Towny started up in safe mode and prevented everybody from moving. This is an attempt to prevent people from grieving/stealing while Towny's protection isn't enabled.

The fix was easy enough. I manually deleted the town of Fleetfield from the MySQL database. If this was your town, please create it again.

  15. EDIT: Tried HappyDiggers. Server lagged to absolute hell and back, so that's not an option unfortunately.

Sorry to hear that. Keep in mind that the HappyDiggers server is hosted in the Netherlands. People from the US tend to have poor connections to Europe. The server itself isn't lagging, it's doing 20TPS constantly.

Fortunately there are other TFC only servers for you to try :)

    2

  16. yeah.... same here. and every server that is running need other mods, and i just  dont know how to do that my mods..

HappyDiggers TFC only requires TerraFirmaCraft. No other mods are needed to join our server. Look at our thread to see which version of TFC we are currently running.
