      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Stupid Chickens...

So I was making my way south to the southern hemisphere last night. This is a hard trip to make early on because of oceans being big, and heatstroke actually causing damage now (I vaguely remember kitty saying its been around a while, but Ive never had issues with it until 79). It becomes really easy to die near the equator because of the extreme heat, and an almost complete lack of rivers. They may be generated correctly... but in my 20k walk, I didnt see a single one. Ive pretty much written off the equator as a habital zone because I don't want to accidentally get stuck out in the open with no thirst, be slowed, and take constant damage from heat stroke and die. Anyway, on my way down there I passed a jungle and seen a chicken or two. I was pretty surprised because I havent seen chickens since the spawn restriction to jungle was added. Then I got to thinking about nest boxes, and breeding them, and it occurred to me that I don't often see players settle near a jungle. I asked around on the server and no one who was currently online even bothered with chickens at all. I feel this is because of them only spawning near jungles, and most people hate kapok for anything other than charcoal. Then I checked the wiki, and it states that the jungle biomes only spawn in average temps of 30-50. This puts you well in the range of heat stroke... so I'm certainly not going to settle down there. While I suppose its possible for people to live in adjacent biomes which are slightly less inhospitable, in my experience people tend to settle down near +/-8k because of the way farming works. So now we are in a position where the only way to legitimately aquire a chicken for normal player is to tow one from a jungle, risking the heat stroke and in all likelyhood, a very long walk. Both of these no one really wants to do. This sucks, because the only other way to get chickens is to spawn them in. So now I just wanted to ask the forum about their experiences with chickens. Does anyone even bother with them? If you didnt aquire your chickens legit, please say so. I only ask because I want to try using nest boxes, but it seems to me that hardly anyone uses them because of the jungle only nature of chickens, and now with heat stroke, there is an additional reason why people wont bother with them. So if anyone has a better way to get chickens, please share.
  2. Stupid Chickens...

Ok then. Chickens are fine because three people use them... certainly a representative sample. I suggest you learn about hyperbolic language and understand not every word is literal.
  3. Stupid Chickens...

Kitty.... this is trying my patience. I would like to move past senseless arguments about the specific names behind biomes and whatnot in the game, and focus more on the chickens and nesting boxes. Do you think its cool that no one uses this feature, or do you think there is room for improvement within the context of believability such that people can actually enjoy using these features?
  4. Stupid Chickens...

The jungle text is not a hyperlink on the wiki, and it hardly matters. The point is, if the conditions for jungle are required, then they spawn in a jungle, in all likelihood evident by the biome name on the debug overlay. One way or the other, the point of this post is about how nesting boxes are not used due to a number of related and restrictive factors... not the exact specifics behind their spawning.
  5. Stupid Chickens...

Kitty, if that's the case, please explain why ive only seen them in jungles, and why the wiki has, and still does state the spawn area as jungle. As far as im aware, the change logs lack any content about changes in chicken spawn mechanics eclusively for 79, so an out of date wiki as an answer seems unlikely.
  6. Stupid Chickens...

Wait you can put chickens in a barrel... how, what, when!? Sounds ridiculous btw....
  7. Remove snow accumulation limit

I might be able to remove this for ya terex, but no promises. while I know a lot about java (develop in it day in and day out for my job) I dont know a whole lot about MC/TFC code. But Ill take a look at the mods source this weekend and see if I can add a config option or something for it (I think it would be cool to let it accumulate as well, but im sure its more complicated than a simple conditional statement). I also dont know if I can technically distribute a custom build to you, but even if I cant, I may be able to give you instructions on how to do it yourself. But again... no promises... I'm usually pretty busy as my wife constantly has shit for me to do.. but ill try to give it a go.
  8. Alternate Fix for Chiseling Ceilings

Heartless and proud of it... I like that
  9. Alternate Fix for Chiseling Ceilings

So a creeper can come and demolish it all and cause a catastrophic cave-in because your torches burned out and you thought it would look prettier if you removed your support beams
  10. Remove snow accumulation limit

but but.... I like arguing about semantics
  11. Remove snow accumulation limit

Yep, thats what im talking about... but ultimately, java byte code isnt considered human readable (not that its impossible, but its like trying to read and understand PCode or native assmebly instructions... Why would you want to?)... which is why we have the Java language. So again... to readJava Code (.java files)you require a text editor, and to decompilebyte code(.class files) you need a decompiler. I was just trying to poke fun a the clumsy way you stated that, not so much trying to disagree with you. Also it would probably just be easier to user a binary compare on the class files VIA the compare plugin for notepad++ (or kdiff or whatever) than it would be try to actually read the file contents. Just compare the known latest build of the class file with the version which has been deployed. At minimum it can tell you that they differ, and a deployment was f'ed up.
  12. Remove snow accumulation limit

No.... decompiling compiled java code (aka bytecode) takes a decompiler. Reading java code requires a text editor and modest comprehension of the natural language it was written in -just being snarky
  13. Alternate Fix for Chiseling Ceilings

IMHO, I think that the view that support beams are an absolute necessity and that not using them represents an exploit is a bit laughable. I like the cave in mechanics, but it seems to me, what the devs are striving for here isnt a way to achieve believeability, its to make support beams a requirement for mining which is sorta bunk. I dont see any reason why a person couldn't mine a 2x1 channel for quite a ways without using support beams. Ive seen plenty of photos of ancient mine shafts / subterranean dwellings which were evidently constructed without support beams. Clearly if you want to clear out a freaking dining hall or something underground... you should definitely need to support that roof, but a 2x1 tunnel caving in constantly? Is TFC stone made of tissue paper? Even some of the more modern mines were constructed in this way. Just a quick google image search will demonstrate that. I dont know a good solution to sorta meet half way between people with me and maga's view, and the devs, I surely think that all this obsession over how best to make it impossible to mine without support beams is definitely not a good thing. Especially that its starting to come at the cost of restricing TFC features. I agree with maga that I feel like im being punished because I didnt pay enough into the log eating machine that the devs believe mining should be....
  14. [TFC 0.79.27] Technofirma Mod Pack

What sorta computers are available in here? Are they the CC type with lua scripts and turtles? I've always wanted to progress through the TFC tech all the way to CC type computers
  15. Question about clay

From the change log back in .1 "Goldenrod flowers now grow over clay even if the clay is under a layer of soil."The last couple of times while playing the game I've run across several patches of goldenrod on the surface. They were typically near the beach, as I was just randomly roaming around, and tend to stay near water when I do that. While the goldenrod was there, there most certainly wasn't any clay anywhere near the surface. These are the cliff like features which were added in 79, and it was almost entirely a single layer of soil on top of stone of one type or another. Does this mean that clay can spawn much deeper than ~ sea level, or does it represent a bug with the flower spawning? I cant really say if I dug down more than one layer in every place possible, but I can say for sure that many goldenrod had spawned on single dirt layers which were directly above a stone block. This was on a server which was running 79.6, and I haven't seen it happen in .7 yet, but wonder none the less. I didn't notice anything else that I thought was relevant to clay in the 79 change logs, but I suppose I could have missed something.
  16. Remove snow accumulation limit

Compiled java code comes in the form of byte code... so unless you can read binary data... you will need the source of both TFC and MC, and an appropriate IDE to dev/build/and test in.
  17. [Intentional] Vanishing Salads

I would find a different server... as bad as that sounds. The servers ive played on seem to have their decay rates toned WAY down. I can be offline for a week and come back with food in my inventory... Its not that they dont decay, just that they decay much slower. You could also consider petitioning the server admins to tone down the rot.
  18. 1001 Small Suggestions: Community Brainstorming~!

Not sure if this counts as a new material or not, but I would like to see firepits and forges accumulate soot on adjacent blocks (1-2 bocks away, with air between them and the air block above the forge/firepit). It would be really cool if the soot was like creosote and could cause fires to start without being maintained. It also occurs to me that if we could harvest the wood tar creosote, we could use it to preserve food in some way. I read in a wiki article that its used to preserve meat...
  19. 1285: Out of Memory Error

You should probably add the -Xmx JVM arg to your instance and allocate as much ram as you can to the JVM. MutliMC gives you a gui to do this:https://github.com/MultiMC/MultiMC5/wiki/Instance-settings. PS if you set the memory fields provided in multiMC, there is no need to add the -Xmx jvm arg in the jvm args fields. They do the same thing, ie both of them would add something like ' -Xmx1G' as a JVM arg, so use either the memory fields provided by the gui OR manually add the -Xmx arg via the JVM args field, not both.

  21. Question about clay

You may or may not want to address this. For what its worth, I don't personally think the issue is big enough to warrant all that much escalation. I can still readily find clay most of the time, and while stumbling across some troll goldenrod from time to time sucks, it hasnt happened enough to me personally, or evidently others often enough for it to be that big of a deal. On Cheuberger's note, perhaps clay had indeed spawned there, and was replaced by the cliff stuff during world generation? Honestly I was more interested in knowing if the spawn mechanics of clay had changed, than having this weird behavior fixed.
  22. Where have all the berries gone?

Probably just bad luck, first server I joined on 79, I found cranberries within a few minutes. CRANBERRIES I TELL YOUZ! Which as it turns out is already really rare because of the peat requirements .
  23. Torch Poll

I've hated this mechanic since it was first being talked about here on the forums. I'm glad it can be turned off, but would rather not have to deal with it at all. I will do everything in my power to find a server which has this feature shut off entirely when I decide on a server to play on long term. IMHO, while TFC is great, and it has a lot of really awesome winning features that keep pulling me back, it already is filled to the eye sockets with menial, boring ass grinding jobs that we all have to engage in to keep healthy and productive in game. Making the lights go out on top of all of that just adds a needless annoyance to all of the other grinding we have to do. In what way am I being challenged by having to relight a torch? Im not... im being forced to wait in my house until day just like before, so I can run around mindlessly relighting torches when they go out. It adds virtually nothing to the game, and I would prefer that at the very least... the default state is disabled, or it be removed entirely.
  24. [Solved] Pain water

I would have to agree with you kitty, in that this was probably heat stroke... given the circumstances anyway. I would do what you do when a bug is rejected, with this thread, and thanks for lookin into it!
  25. [Solved] Pain water

Version #: 79 SSP/SMP (Single/MultiPlayer): MP Suggested Name: Oh God it burns! Suggested Category: Minor Description: I played on an MP server last night, and found myself in a giant ocean with no land in sight ( big surprise there ). During my trip after around 5k blocks of swimming or so, I began to take damage from the water constantly... like standing in a berry bush. I found that if I submerged myself below the water one block down the damage stopped. When resurfacing for air or whatever I would take damage again. at one point, position myself one block down and out of harms way, then relogging fixed the issue. Later on when the bug manifested again, logging did not fix the problem. This was not a drowning mechanic. My air meter was never empty while sustaining damage from the water. Things to consider: I was near the equator... at ~ -5k or -6k I was starving: Hunger and thirst were empty, but I was not taking continuous damage unless I was in that top layer of water. I vaguely remember the temp being around 35. The biome was Deep Ocean. Have you deleted your config files and are still able to reproduce this bug?: Yes (This was a fresh build via MultiMC, configs were brand spankin new) Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed?: Yes If yes, which mods: REI, Smart Moving, Player API
