      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Propick, how do you WORK?

I really don't have issue with the hit or miss feature of the pick. When you are out taking dirt samples, you are not always going to find ore on your first sample, seems legit. But increasing the search area lessens the value of the hits you actually get... rare as they already are. I would take a smaller search area with less reliability than this change any day.

I would argue that the decreased "value" of the hits you get will be offset by an increased chance to find ores, and increased frequency of hits. (especially the early ores which are close to the surface) so although you may find that mining deep underground will become more difficult, getting decent hits for start - mid game ore will be much better, as currently the propick will scan to a maximum depth of 6 blocks below you, which is far too shallow for ores to be likely to be found. Especially as this often translates to 2 - 3 layers of stone (when taking account of dirt thickness)

It's entirely too early to be condemning the decision yet, as you have not seen what practical implications it will have for your gameplay. It may well be that you are right, and the decreased accuracy is more of an issue than the increased range is a benefit, but until this has been tested to a reasonable degree by the community, it's not possible to say either way.

That was an error on my part, I meant to say the propick used to scan to 6 blocks :P
