      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Is the assumption that the game is set in Europe, then? I can't work out what you're saying :/

well as of yet, it mostly is, or at least, in the western world. What I'm saying is that you are not going to have stone age paper. It should be at least after bronze

Oh, ok, gotcha! I thought you meant no paper period. Not really thinking straight today...

It's not just water left with the pulp... if you want to be believable, you take into account the biochemicals sucked out of the paper because of the water... Chemicals that trees and plants from just becoming paper...

as this is minecraft

i don t think chemicals are a problem.

though we could neutralize them with a material like lime or chalk

this would also dye the paper white :)

Step 1, kill sheep

Step 3, write on vellum to create recipes.

Yeah, and the advantage of paper, is the option of making maps (or better ones if you read my thread on compasses) books, and more complicated pieces of literature.

hmm i ve always wanted MUCH better maps within the game

my favorite idea was to add the ability to place a map on a surface and put "pins" in it to mark locations :)

Hmm, well imma link the idea i posted as it is relevant in this convo,

Now, here's an idea, we remove markers, and there would be progressively better materials for use in mapmaking, ie better ink, quills, and parchment. and each would affect the quality of the map. so really crappy squid ink with a chicken feather on (essentially) flax would be a grayscale badly detailed image, whereas a nice quality feather (random drop from chicken?) would affect the detail, the ink would control the color scale, and the parchment would affect the overlay of the map, IE vellum texture overlaying a map as opposed to paper grain.

but also we could add the ability to place them (like dunk said) and add pins for location like you just mentioned.
