      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Now seriously, though, i was just worried allowing nuclear suicidal bomber in TFC would be... "not believable enough", maybe? :P But if it's not that big of a explosion, then yeah, the meme up here says it all.

Should we produce a baseline for magical ingredients? THe more we define here the less mental work that is required of our beloved devs. assuming this gets in of course. ;D

Psst, psst... he is another dev... and you know we always derail, and the awesome isn't being posted about anymore, so why to react like that?

Should we produce a baseline for magical ingredients? THe more we define here the less mental work that is required of our beloved devs. assuming this gets in of course. ;D

How do you mean?

A baseline for magical ingredients?

Well... if you mean what I think you mean, then I "think" plants will be added soon-ish, by Bioxx... meaning fungi, mosses, herbs, etc... not saying he will definitely, but I am speculating as I believe I saw him post somewhere he would be starting on alchemy at some point.

But by using the herbs implemented, as well as powdered gemstone, and drops that aren't really utilized on a broader scale (ie: zombie flesh, ink sacks, bones, spider eyes, etc...) and maybe implementing other drops (rare) that can be found on animals, (ie: sheep's stomach (which on a side note was used by shepherds to hold goats milk and when the enzymes in the walls of the sheep's stomach interacted with the milk they got CHEESE!), ingredients would be easy "i think" to create.

The key to it all would be acquiring said ingredients and processing them.

Drying herbs after locating them (which might be a difficult task in and of itself) would require a waiting period much like charcoal in a pit. Then crushing the herb and gems in a mortar and pestle. Next would be building an infuser, alembic, distiller, or whatever else Bioxx decides to add, which could require catalysts, extractions, in turn requiring alcohol, which in and of itself opens up a whole other can of worms...

The process could be as simple or as extravagant as Bioxx deems fit. But I would dare to say that under no circumstance should magic outside of herbalism (like food recipes) come easy. Manipulating the essence of an item or group of items outside their chemical or substantial natural realm (like magic missiles, fireballs, teleportation) should err on the side of a more believable medium than a fantastical and whimsical snap of the fingers or wiggle of the nose (Bewitched.. yes I am old. LOL). That being said, while I don't really care for blood magic and the like, such things as teleportation should definitely sap the strength and stamina of the player using it to the extent that magic should be used in a tactical, well thought out nature with the outcome being such that misuse or ill timed execution could mean serious harm to one's self and/or others around, if not death. Again in the example of teleportation, think teleporting into solid matter.

So there I go rambling on again. So yea... a baseline for magical ingredients?

Where to begin...

'Bewitched'

Your young till you die.

the base idea behind blood magic is that blood is easy to come by, but something you need to live. While you have a lot, using it can kill you. This makes magic that requires it a game of rulet. Because it offers such a great risk, it happens to produce great reward for those who survive. Blood magic should be rare on the battlefield and instead be something you use to prepare long before hand. Yes, Long before you tell all the staff on the server to 'fuck off'

you can use it on the battlefeild to enhance your abilities, but using it would allow an enemy to finish you in a single blow. Risk-reward system is what blood is about.

Nether, plant genetics, blood and gems. Those are our base ingredients does anyone have anything to add or remove? (Plant genetics are a must if we are going to add all the plants we want to)

Could always just replace "gems" with "mineral" Use of raw ore or filed metal/alloy shavings would add a very real cost to some magic. Imagine if a spell/enchantment/whatever required shavings of several important alloys on top of whatever other requirements? This would also be useful in that explosives could be a partially non-magical branch of alchemy. A "file" tool would be useful for making powders from a variety of minerals for combining.

so i read page 1 and not sure about other responses yet but does anyone realize the amount of effort required to code magic in the first place, then all the effects, and then the devestation effect listed on page 1? its unreachable, if a good idea.

We all have confidence that Bioxx can pretty much code whatever he wants. I agree its a huge amount but he always seems to exceed our expectations by a million miles we are just trying to keep up. Ha unreachable! Do you want me to list the "unreachable things that Bioxx has already done. Have some faith dued.

I wouldn't mind minerals being additional used but I personally love the idea of gems but think they need a little work is all. So they aren't just randomly dropping and stuff.

And yet, Dunk said Crysyn is better than both him and Bioxx at coding : so that makes Crysyn a flaboyant god of coding...?

Whatever, what i think he meant is that magic wouldn't be just hard (which i trust Bioxx and Dunk will be able to do anyways), but also a freakin time consuming monster. It could take them several months to make, and most players are by now used to constant monthly (at most) updates. If they do start working on it, they should warn the player base about it, so they don't just go away thinking they just dropped the project.

I get the feeling that if magic starts getting introduced, bioxx will follow the same path he has this whole time, he will implement sub system after sub system until it builds into a combined system of awesome. Piece by piece, he'll make it work. Consider making charcoal, that's something he's still fleshing out after all this time, even though it's technically been implemented for quite a few builds now, just now it's outright awesome by comparison.

I agree with that my point is he can get it done if he wanted to. On the other hand though I don't think this is too high on his priorty list but it certainly would be nice to prepare for. *cough* plant genetics *cough*
