      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I hate to burst you're imaginative bubble but gems are the equivalent of this .... we would be suggesting a second type of gem , and then what?

No, they're not really equivalent at all, for multiple reasons.

- The suggestion is for custom minted coins, where the user has some control over the design. You can't customize gems.

- If you were to use gems, it would always be a fiat currency without intrinsic value. Some people here favor a representative currency, where the metal of the coin itself is worth something to the owner.

- Gems can be massproduced by anyone with a sluice at essentially zero requirements, cost and effort. And for this reason, they will never work as curreny (fiat currency with no intrinsic value + effortless reproduction = infinite inflation = no economy). Coins cast/minted from metal on the other hand always require you to pay with your metal, require you to have made the effort to find and smelt it, and require you have the progression level (and skill) necessary to find and refine ores. This is doubly true when you account for the fact that rarer and more difficult metal coins are going to be worth more. That is why they can work as a currency.
