      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Drinking is too slow in bodies of water

8 posts in this topic

I think that it takes too long to refil the thirst bar while in water. I feel it wouldn't take me hours (in game) to drink my fill. If you want to balance the game in the sense that jugs are needed for water... make standing water have a chance to poison you and give us a filter to craft and then pour into a jug  to make filtered water. Filter could be a bucket + Sand + charcoal +Gravel or something like that then fill the filter with water and let it set for a time period of a few hours, then can fill a jug from it and get clean drinking water. Then jugs would be useful for water and we'd have a neat survival mechanism and refilling thirst from water wouldn't seem ridiculously slow. I would make thirst meter then not fill while STANDING in water. I'd require you do some button press to drink. Maybe open-hand punch the water (like scooping into mouth). That'd be the most reasonable to me. This would be the way that you might get poisoned because you didn't filter the water.Anyway as it is it just feels silly sitting in water for hours because I'm thirsty. I drink a horse's weight in water every day it seems.

I believe the purpose of the ceramic jug has more to do with being able to bring water with you on long expeditions inland or underground. But I agree with all your points anyway!

Also, as long as we're talking sanitation, boiling water could be a thing as well. Filter to get rid of particles in suspension, boil to get rid of microorganisms.

Oo I like! And yeah I think that's mostly what it's for too, but in case balance was part of it, I went ahead and tackled my view on that. :) I like to be proactive!

I kinda like the "punching water" idea.  It seems more believable than Steve's magic fish-skin that absorbs water when he stands in it.

The fish-skin we have now was probably easier to implement than registering water punches, though.

I think you should just have to crouch in water. Y'know, crouch down to drink.'Punching' would be fine too I guess.Drinking straight from the water is definitely remarkably slow, however. I am not sure what the justification is for the speed, but I suspect what happened is the total water you could imbibe was increased, but the drinking rate was not.

The total was not increased. They reduced the speed at which you'd gain water from standing in water so you'd have to use the jugs they added.

Wouldn't it be Frog-Skin since fish don't absorb water through there skin easily.
