Unusual Tree Spawning

Just started up a new seed in B78H9. No trees from like 500-1000 blocks (which i was cool with).

 

i log back on the next day to find the tree(s) in the picture below. Kind of a WTF moment.

These are newly implemented Acacia trees. I don't know why they'd suddenly spawn where no trees had been before though.

now that i know they will grow this big, i'll remove the saplings i got.... and preciously keep them in a safe place as they no longer spawn in 78.10

i should probably mentioned that this is on a 24hr server, but its still really weird.

Plus they don't cut down properly. The canopy remains present after chopping the tree trunk.

My Acacias grew!

 

I just planted two saplings to make getting wood slightly easier for new-spawners.

I know, there where 2 trees nearby, but for me they where in spawn protection.

Acacias are awesome! I don't suggest taking one on with stone axes, though; I recently had one that chewed through 36 stone axes and took two in-game days (during the light) to cut down! To quote a servermate: "bloody hell these are silly"

 

They're great as a supply for charcoal pits, but as Terex said some of the canopy bits that remain after cutting down are a tad annoying to deal with sometimes.

As aliceingame stated, saplings for acacia trees are no longer available after 78.10. The reason for this is so that they behave the exact same way as kapoks. If you wonder why kapoks don't drop saplings, you can check the FAQ.
