      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Leather armour to metal armour.

7 posts in this topic

I propose the requirements of leather armour in order to finish any of the metal armours.

After finishing each piece of metal armour, you combine it with the leather armour in the crafting table and it's done.

It's a mere change of recipe but in the end it would make leather much more useful than just bellows, books and quivers.

It'd give people a reason to keep on tanning that leather in order to protect themselves even when punching together steel ingots!

It'd make metal armour slightly more expensive and time consuming to make yourself and as such requires either patience, team work, trading or.. you know.. murder and theft!

i want to put more work into making metal armour than just the metal part of it.

I could also go on about how real armour where never just worn over plain shirts. you'd need some thick leather under the metal for many reasons. (ever touched metal that's been warmed up by the sun?)

But that'd fall under realism i guess. i'd say there's enough reasons other than realism to justify it though.

wether or not leather should have an impact on armor stats or not is up for debate. (and whatever BioDunk thinks about it) personally i don't think it should.

(i did take a look in the suggestions directory but couldn't find anything like this, but i'm a terrible searcher.)

Not complete leather armor, but I agree with leather straps. Also maybe wool padding.

the amount of leather needed is also up for debate. i'd want to make the whole leather set just for the work and resources needed for it but hey. if BioDunk feels like adding leather strap recipes then sure thing!

i just think that simply putting leather armour (or leather bits) with the metal armour in the crafting grid sounds like the most easiest thing to code.

it's just a recipe after all! "Said the code virgin"

I actually thought of this recently, however I think a complete equipment overhaul would be more appropriate ;] vanilla just does not have enough equipment slots.

I'd like two equipment slots, frankly, one for clothing, and one for armor.

And needing wool padding or leather straps when making metal armor is a good idea, it will give leather and wool more uses then simply aesthetics.

And I think it'll be nice to have some things like chain armor that doesn't need leather, heavy armor that needs more padding and leather, stuff like that

+1 to this too. Or some sort of another use for leather in the armor, be it leather strings or padding

Metal armour crafting uses up ENORMOUS amounts of metal.

I think bolting a leather chestplate onto the half-prepared metal chestplate from a single double-sheet is a reasonable compromise. That's still a lot of metal - especially when you think you have to use so much for the anvil in the first place.
