Only help if you can be helpful

Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

  1. Tips on fighting bears?

The right to bear arms is something that TFC takes very seriously. Unfortunately, those arms are so long that it becomes a grizzly affair very quickly. What you need to do is change your fighting style to the polaropposite of what it is now, instead of sword and board you should look intogetting a bow and arrow.
  2. Admin/owner wanted

Not sure if this is the right place for this or not... I'm currently setting up a server with a custom modpackand I need a person with knowledge of TFC and forge mods in general to help set up grief protection before we launch the dedicated server publicly. Voice communication is a must. Please reply here or PM me if you're interested.
  3. Too many sticks!

I ended up installed carpenter blocks, it's a great way to reduce the amount that I had. Now my main problem is what to do with all this dirt I have after terraforming my village...
  4. Too many sticks!

I'd be pretty happy if someone made a bundle of stick mod. Maybe have it so it can be used in fire pits and shit with like half the burn time as logs.
  5. Too many sticks!

Holy crap I have a butt load of sticks. Anyone have any suggestions for what I should do with them? I wish we could bundle them for efficient storage.
  6. My little fort

What is the roof made of?
  7. [Solved] Server crashing after week of use

That did it! It must have been the NPC I added today. I had set it to dance on a Bibliocraft table and it must have bugged out when the chunk wasn't loaded. All I did was remove the customnpc config from the world folder and it launched fine.
  8. [Solved] Server crashing after week of use

Any way to fix this and preserve the world?
  9. Have you read, understood, and followed all of the rules listed in large text at the top of the support forum? (Yes/No):Yes Answering "no" to the above question will result in your post being deleted. TFC Version #:79.26.881 Forge Version #: Please note that an actual number must be provided for both of the above fields. Simply saying "current" or "latest" will result in your post being locked, due to the fact that in a large number of cases, users who say they are using the "latest" or "current" version are actually using an outdated version. SSP/SMP (SinglePlayer/MultiPlayer):SMP Have you deleted your config files or are using default configs and are still able to reproduce this bug? (Yes/No):Yes If you answered no to the above question, delete all 3 TFC config files (TFCCrafting, TFCConfig, TFCOre), do NOT edit or add to any of the files, and try to reproduce the bug. This question is here because many bugs are caused by mistakes in config files. If you are unable to delete your edited config files, please provide a list of the config options you have changed. Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed? (Yes/No):Yes If yes, which mods?TFC Additions, Decorations, LeatherWaterSack, Merchants + Containers, TerraMisc, Automated Bellows, TFC Cellars, TFC Scales, TFC Udary, Animal Crate, Backpack, Betterstorage, BiblioCraft, Bibliowoods, CustomNPCs, Farseek, Fastcraft, GooglyEyes, NEI, OpenEye, Opengrave, PlayerAPI, SmartMoving, TFC Railcraft, Streams, TFC Tweaks, TooMuchTime, WAILA If you have Optifine or Cauldron installed, can you still reproduce the bug after uninstalling them? (Yes/No):Yes (Neither are installed) If you answered no to the above question, uninstall Optifine/Cauldron and try to reproduce the bug. Both Optifine and Cauldron edit the base classes of forge that TFC uses. Because of this, we cannot officially support any issues that happen only when these mods are installed. In the majority of cases, TFC is not causing the bug; Optifine/Cauldron is and TFC can do nothing to fix it. All bug reports should have an answer of "Yes" to this question. If you refuse to uninstall Optifine/Cauldron, and cannot reproduce the bug when the mods are not installed, do not bother making a bug report, as it will be locked and ignored. link of the Crash Report: Description:Not sure what is happening, the server worked fine all day (and has for about a week) and then it suddenly crashed. I tried to reboot it and it keeps crashing every time I run it.
  10. The server will be down for a few days while I try out Tekkit on my host. If anyone is interested in joining let me know through a PM.
  11. I think we're good now. We had problems and I was away for the last day so I couldn't do anything.
  12. I don't think we should rely on someone else to do it. While I don't know anything about the languages of both minecraft and bukkit, I think Bioxx or someone else on the dev team should release a SMP version that is compatible.
  13. The server will be down for a bit but when it comes back online it will be updated to 48. Rachel is a man.
