      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Paper

I do agree that making paper by just throwing three reeds in the crafting grid feels unnatural and out-of-place in TFC. It feels so much like a vanilla recipe. It "feels" like it should be redone similar to leather, wool, etc. I also agree with some of the earlier comments that it might not be worth it for game-play reasons, but I suppose the same could be argued for wool. If the crafting mechanic gets an overhaul, I'd also suggest an overhaul in how the reed blocks grow. To me, this is even more important. Infinite paper by spamming the shorelines with reeds is out of place in TFC. It might not be worth it to make the change, but I'd like to see reeds drop as an item from a plant that grows more like cattails, or even use cattails. I'd like to see them not be farmable, and only spawn/respawn the way wild crops do.
  2. Here's another episode! I turn to the interior of my house and with the help of the Decorations add-on textures, come up with a really nice ceiling. Although, the choice of materials is questionable. Let me know what you think of what I've done!
  3. In these latest two episodes I play some more with the blocks and textures of the Decorations mod, expand the patio around the beach house, upgrade to blue steel lamps and breed a bunch of animals!
  4. Time to post the latest two episodes! We've moved to the latest build and now we've got the Decorations add-on. That's a lot more options for designing the beach house.
  5. [Rule #4] Additional Fuels for Lanterns

I think the lamps are great. I love the hopper mechanic and I think the use of olive oil is perfectly believable and fitting for the game. My first thought though, and the reason I thought people were going to be asking for more fuels, was that it's sort of hit-or-miss. The reality is, if you find just one olive tree, you just need a little luck (2 saplings drop) + time and you're on your way to an infinite (and very cheap) fuel source for lamps. If you don't find an olive tree, or if that tree drops zero saplings, well, get working on that blue steel. That's a perfectly valid design choice for the devs but I can see how it disappoints people. Luxury item or not, the lamps are a highly-desired item, yet getting them is somewhat based on luck. Adding another option, such as tallow/lard, might take away the binary aspect of either having or not having fuel. Couldn't it still be made expensive enough to render that it doesn't upset the balance?
  6. I made a video of some of my favorite nifty tips and tricks that I've picked up in my time playing TFC. Some may be helpful if you're new to TFC. If you're experienced, surely none of these will blow your mind, but you may not have thought of some of them:
  7. [TFC 0.79.17] Lanterns Addon for TFC

Thank you! I can't wait to play around with all the different lighting options we'll have now!
  8. [TFC 0.79.17] Lanterns Addon for TFC

Aleksey, Great work on your addons! We have Lanterns installed on our server and we've built dozens of them. We want to upgrade to 79.17 and also install your Decorations addon when you are able to update it. I believe you said that people with Lanterns already will have the lanterns disabled from Decorations. Does that mean we have to keep Lanterns installed and wait for an update to it? Or can we install Decorations and uninstall Lanterns and still have the already built lanterns continue to function?
  9. The "Magic" of TFC

Sometimes people like to play vanilla Minecraft. Sometimes they like to play "Minecraft-enhanced" with things such as minimaps and inventory tweaks. Sometimes they like to play "Minecraft-cheaty" where mods break the balance and mechanics the devs intended. Then other times people will play "Minecraft-transcended" which is nothing like what the devs ever envisioned. One of the ways to play "transcended" is called Terrafirmacraft. Now, I voted for the quarantined section of cheaty addons, but after finally reading the arguments here, I was leaning toward banning. I understand the TFC devs put great effort into making the mod work just so, and I don't see why they'd want to implicitly endorse using this community to unravel that work. But then I thought about how TFC came to be in the first place. Bioxx and Dunk conceived of a way to make a whole new experience from Minecraft. I have no idea how, but I presume they tapped into the vast Minecraft community as well as their own chops. I don't know if these forums are the place to support that kind of ingenuity within TFC itself, but just on sheer size compared to Minecraft, I question whether the TFC community would pull anything like that together if not here. I saw Generik try to put HQM into TFC and I know OneWolfe has his Terrafirmapunk pack. Those are both really great, but what lies beyond? What sort of TFC minigames, adventures, or PvP scenarios might pop into existence that aren't like anything we have? It seems to me if these forums draw a line in the sand at cheaty, they're also ruling out everything beyond - at least in terms of this community being a rich resource. Maybe that's for the best. Maybe that's what the devs prefer. But without this concentrated community, I don't imagine we'll see a lot of it. I don't see us getting that thing that is to TFC as TFC is to Minecraft. Is that worth considering regarding this decision? I don't know, but I wanted to put it out there. I don't like the idea of using a mod to circumvent the TFC balance and mechanics, but then ... I never thought I'd ever want to play with a mod that "broke" anything in Minecraft, until I saw Etho play TFC.
  10. Two more episodes for you guys! I installed and tried out the Cellars add-on for TFC, and did some serious building on my house:
  11. WAILA Support

It's already been said, but this truly is great! The update as a whole is really welcome. I think it shows you're listening to what the players are saying in terms of how the game plays and I for one appreciate it. Thank you! [Feel free to strike this comment for not adding to the conversation but I just had to say it.]
  12. [Solved] torch can't give light while in my hand

I think the torch light in hand is a feature of the shaders mod. I vaguely remember seeing a video somewhere around the time that build 79 was coming out and I too may have been left with the impression that it was going to be in TFC, but it's definitely not.
  13. [TFC 0.79.29] Cellars Addon

After trying this out, it does seem OP. The construction is quite cheap, really. I am having a problem with the ice saw, though. I put a double ingot in the anvil and I'm not seeing a plan for it. Am I doing something wrong? EDIT: I left the game and came back a little later and the plan was there! I did put NEI back in my mod folder in the meantime so that's the only thing I can think of as to why it would appear like that. It was missing from both single-player and server.
  14. [TFC 0.79.29] Cellars Addon

Thanks! It's a shame you can't actually change the TFC temp, but this seems like a solid solution. I actually tested it and the food inside is decaying much slower that the copies with the same decay values in my inventory (copied with creative) so yeah, it's working! Now to see if it works on the server. We've changed the year length and set the server to only tick 1/1000 when idle so you don't know of any problems that might cause with the addon, do you? I'll report back if anything goes wrong.
  15. [TFC 0.79.29] Cellars Addon

So I built this in a creative world, loaded the ice bunker with ice, and shift-right-clicked on it. I got the message that "it's freezing here" so I'm guessing all is well. Then when I check F3, it still shows the temp at 25c which is basically the same as the exterior temperature. Have I done something wrong? Is it working even though the debug screen says that it isn't? Great add-on, BTW, I can't wait to put it to use!
  16. [TFC 0.79.29] Cellars Addon

This is a very, very promising looking addon and I have a perfect place for it in my current world! I can't wait to give it a try. Is that smithing recipe that's shown for the ice saw? Also, what is the interaction with the shelves? Do they have inventory slots, how many, and what can we put in them?
  17. Jake made red steel! He also shows off a pretty nifty way to mine in TFC that isn't super-efficient, but it is relatively quick, safe and gives you a good amount of natural stone blocks:
  18. [Poll] Ceramic Bowls

I'm curious. Since the build has been out for a while and it looks like we're stuck with single-use ceramic bowls for now, do people actually make salads? I found it's too much of a pain to fire the clay and everything, but am I just being lazy and missing out on a good food source? I really just put all my ingredients into sandwiches now.
  19. In this latest episode, I make my first metal trap doors and try out the new TFC grill in a brand new kitchen set-up:
  20. Here's another episode. In this one I try to find a male wolf to get some puppies around the place. I also realize my new house under construction has a fatal flaw: it's in TFC. Here's what I mean:
  21. [Solved] Can't Find Bushes

That's true, but it's not that indirect. There's a pretty strong correlation between latitude and temperature and when you're within a few thousand blocks of the equator, you don't see many bio temps under 20 or 25, necessary for a variety of berries. I guess my answer was oversimplified so your answer was definitely more useful.
  22. [Solved] Can't Find Bushes

Also, you may be considerably closer to the equator and I believe there are fewer spawns of berries at low latitudes. Check your z coordinate. You may have been luck going North instead of South if you're in the Northern Hemisphere.
  23. Nifty tricks

LOL. Fair enough. I just didn't want to take credit for it, either.
  24. Nifty tricks

Since log piles are how you make a charcoal pit, and throwing a torch on top is how you light it, dying anywhere near a log pile can be total disaster (such as falling off your house or out of a tree in a tree farm). Kitty has recommended keeping torches in a small vessel for normal walking around since that won't catch any fires if it's dropped on death. Good tip, Kitty, so I thought I'd add it to this thread.
  25. Two more episodes for anyone following along. I try to tame a wolf, but she gets a little crazy. The path around the lake takes shape, lines with lanterns. Construction has started on my house!
