      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Congrats Dunk! While TFC is important, of course personal lives are more important, and it's great that you're employed now. Good luck in all you further endeavours!

  2. Well, that's why I propose the second way. 5 point metals. It stacks up to 64 if you wish. Useful to fill that 15 gap from rich ores.

... You could smelt and give it to someone with a high metalsmith skill and get a better grade tools.

How big is the biggest coal vein? I'm currently on a limonite vein and I've extracted 12 stacks of limonite and counting. That is only a 11% chance to get a chip. I don't even know what to do with those limonites, I only have a copper pick. Can you cast it from a forge to a mold?

Coal veins can be absolutely enormous. I have found veins that were EASILY over 50*100*20 blocks...It's a bit crazy. I also think only ores should count towards any mining skill.

  3. Of course we remember you, Eternal. Anyways, I wonder what Bioxx means by more exciting uses...Perhaps different alcohols will have different stats, so to speak? I think that would be interesting and it would also be nice to make alcohol less of a useless thing.

  4. Well, this is odd. My grass has started spreading much faster than it used to (only one block had spread over a long period of time before) now that I've replaced the top layer with granite dirt (the same type of dirt as the grass I was trying to get to spread).

  5. Page: Planks

    "Stackable Yes, 8"

I'm pretty sure that planks are stackable up to 32

If you read the top of the page, you will see that this page is about plank blocks, not plank items. Planks blocks DO stack to 8.

EDIT: Well, I'm a derp. Disregard that.

  6. Try heading toward the equator. If you see deserts, it means you are in the right latitude zone. Also play with your sound turned on, chickens can get hidden in the jungle leaves, but you can find them by their clucking. Remember, you don't need a rooster to find eggs, just hens, but you need a rooster to multiply your population.

I don't think deserts have anything to do with this. A desert is just an area with low precipitation, take Antarctica for example. I've even seen areas of sand at -25k...while it was snowing. :P So sand in TFC definitely doesn't associate with being hot or even dry. I second the chicken noises. The roosters' crows are very loud!

  7. This is extremely OP, as it's very easy to get your skill to 50. This takes away from the entire aspect of it being rare to get a second seed. A skill level of 50 isn't even high. IMHO, this should be configurable at best.

  8. A system like this could use the Baubles Mod, which may be compatible with TFC and Thaumcraft 4 is currently using it too. However, I believe the devs have stated that they don't want to give enchantment-like buffs to the players, and honestly, I wouldn't really like if these were implemented. It's too much "magic" feeling for me. That said, it could probably be done well, or possibly implemented in some later features, like if NPCs ever become a thing, giving them jewelry would gain their favor or something. Otherwise, it could still be worth it to some just to be able to have these items as a personal status symbol in the game. Just a little ramble to add to the discussion.

Bioxx has said before that NPCs will never be added.

However, I do think that gems should be able to be used for jewelery or encrusting armour and tools for ceremonial/for fun purposes only.

  9. Once I have progressed in the tiers, I usually build, or experiment with meals. Don't worry, your problem isn't much of a problem anymore once you get better tools. Another thing you can do to pass the time (that I personally haven't done because I much prefer exploring) is to settle near a river or other body of water so you can gold pan through the night to get some copper. This also helps in getting tools.

  10. P.S I will add, I disagree with "there is nothing to do once you reach highest tier" In My Honest Opinion (I.M.H.O) that's when all the building and creativity options start. When you finally feel like you can take on mobs and have all the wood/stone types in large amounts with tools good enough to speedily manipulate said materials. That is when TFC masterpieces are created!

While building may be fun (I don't disagree), I remember TFC's counter of sorts to Vanilla MC was that after you get a base, it's just creative mode in essence. That's kind of the situation you're describing after purple steel.

However, while I do think that things to, well, do after steel other than gun for nickel should be added, I do understand that lots of work is being done on the early game, and it's showing; the early game is great. The early game must be fleshed out before the mid/end game is.

  11. Now that's thinking like a TFC player! ;)"Let's take this relaxing hot springs idea and then add death by scalding!!!"I like the way you think...

This is even worse than the ravines that are everywhere. Instead of a quick, "wtf?", death, it's an "Oh, NO, NO, NO, NO!!! Kimbblesrath burned in a hot spring." kind of death. It's the difference between knowing that you died after your death and knowing you're going to die soon with no way to stop/prevent it before your death. Inevitable, slow deaths are much better than surprise fall deaths. ;)

Curious off topic question: Why are there so many ravines? Is this intentional or a little quirk of world gen that turned out fine?

  12. I remember that once, I had a tree farm so large, that by the time I had finished chopping the last row, the first row had already regrown. I never ran out of wood. Douglas Firs, in my opinion, are stronger than willow for wood collection overall because not only do they also provide lots of saplings, they are completely straight, so they never leave little floating bits that you have to tower up and grab, like you get with willow. I would say the only real thing that willow has over douglas fir is that they are lower, so you don't need to get a higher altitude to get the leaves. However, this is a double edged sword because...it looks nicer than a mass of leaves at the ground, in my opinion.

Their planks also look quite nice. You can also pull off the trick that terex is talking about, but I was never really able to get that to work 100% of the time because the trees wouldn't grow if you only had 2 blocks in between the saplings. One of the trees would grow first and block the line of sight to the sky for another couple saplings next to it. I have also noticed that you can never really get away with less that 4 blocks in between willow trees.

Anyway, what are your guys' favourite tree farms, for both efficiency and design? I personally prefer little terrace type farms with steps. I have them around the place with 2 or 3 tree types (and 4 or 5 trees of each type) to get wood for building. Then, I'll have my charcoal wood farm, usually douglas or willow, and then what i like to call my "garden" which is a grid of whatever type of tree that I need to grow for building at that time.

Phew, this tree post got a bit longer that I expected, but I'm interested to hear my fellow TFC fans' opinions.

  13. I have some questions about how grass spreads.

    • Does it require a certain rain, evt, temperature, etc. value?
    • Will it grass from one type of dirt spread to another type of dirt?

As much info as I could get about grass would be good. thanks.
