      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. [Solved] Odd cave-in behavior

It is possible to place beams in a cave and be safe, you just need to place some extra ones down outside of the area your mining in, as for before caves, ya kinda, bioxx said he was going to look in to to see if something could be done to stop cave ins when first finding caves. There is a config setting just for this, in the file TFCOptions you can set the chance that a cave in will occur, and the chance of it propagating, if you want rare but devastating cave ins i would suggest InitialCollapseRatio=100+ and porpogateCollapseChance=75 that should get you what you want. this can only happen if the block marked X has an air block under it, which isn't to common. also you could add more support beams if its a cave supporting that area. The only this I would like changed with support beams is there should be a safe way to dig up, I know you can dig up but its not fully supported and could cave in
  2. [Solved] Odd cave-in behavior

I've noticed something odd about cave ins, I'm not making a bug report because maybe this is how things are. version .79.13 In the picture the thatch block was the stone I was mining and you can see that is well within the area supported by the beam on the right yet it caused the cave in you can see on the left. Now after the cave in beam was also broken but it was not caused by falling blocks and I'm sure I didn't break it. My thoughts about this The beam was broke somehow which allowed the cave in to happen, but don't know how. There is still some odd stuff with beam which were placed on the ceiling, so maybe the horizontal beam didn't actually get placed.Would someone be able to help explain what happened.
  3. Soups.

I have no evidence to support this but I'm sure its coming, soup seems like it would fit perfectly in the food system and it would be a good way to stretch food if its is scarce.
  4. Trains ?

Trains no. Wagons yes, very yes.
  5. Why does sluicing work that way?

I agree that it would be believable and fun, but unfortunately I don't think the gravel can store that kind of information.
  6. Make Stone Age Longer.

I have to agree with kitty, if forcing the game to be longer for everyone will make some people not want to play, then its not really worth it. players can make the game as arbitrarily long as they want, but they will always be limited on how fast they can make it. For me, I like the long game, I started my new world when .79 came out and I only got a blast furnace a week back because I've been exploring the new food mechanic on the search for the perfect meal (which incredibly hard btw, I wrote a macro to help, 50 million food combinations and no perfect meal, ridiculous!) and when I start my next world I'm going to set the units gotten from nuggets from 10 to 1 to make it longer still.
  7. Prevent grass growth

Alright then, Its too bad that wouldn't work out that way. I do get how grass spreads I was just trying to think of an equivalent to the coarse dirt that's in vanilla with out having to add that block to each rock type.
  8. Prevent grass growth

I cant imagine that this idea hasn't been though of before but I wasn't able to find a topic about it. Basically I'm looking for a way to keep grass from growing on to dirt with out having to make a new dirt block for each rock type(which is why I'm guessing this isn't currently available). So that got me thinking about the attributes that food can have, is it at all possible to give a dirt block some attribute, while keeping it the same block, that could be used to prevent grass from growing on it? If it is possible (that's a big IF) you could be able to shift right click dirt with salt or craft dirt and salt together to apply said attribute. Now I'm guessing that's probably not possible so an alternative could be adding a block similar to the chiseled block, which is able to use the different textures of rock, limiting how many block would have to be added. There are many problems with this suggestion I'm sure, but I would love to be able to have grass free dirt.
  9. Some things about Donkey/Mules

I think mules in vanilla are overall faster than donkeys which is their main advantage. I've also wanted donkeys to have the ability to carry things like logs or barrels since the .79 update, so maybe mules could be used to carry heavy loads.
  10. Animal Feeding Trough

Ohh ya I like Djakuta's idea, make animal hunger important but not devastating.
  11. Sculpting Skill

Or that he is filling in the mistake with something, maybe it would need mortar or something.
  12. Tracking Skill

All right granted, if its and elephant, buffalo or other massive game then ya I'm ok with needing people.
  13. Tracking Skill

I don't think it would be that great if you needed lots of people to hunt, People are currently able to hunt by them selves and it would also leave the SSP people out of luck.
  14. Animal Feeding Trough

I would like that. It would also be nice if you could also fill it with grass or straw so the animals would eat that instead of the grass in the pen, I've had it where my sheep ate all the grass and stopped growing wool, if I had a trough then I wouldn't have had to move them.
  15. Reason to go digging and spelunking?

Since my last posts about how caves suck now, I've now almost exclusively mined in cave mostly for the ease of access to ores. That being said I am now in peaceful, my cave in chance is 1/50, my cave in propagation is 35% and I'm much better with the new support beams. So its a lot easier than it normally would be.
  16. [Vanilla] Ghost support beams

Version #: .79.13 SSP/SMP (Single/MultiPlayer): SSP Suggested Name: Ghost support beam Suggested Category: Annoying Description: When standing under a block which is 6 blocks or higher above the floor, and placing a vertical support beam on the ceiling will create a ghost beam. The materials to make the beam wont be used but the blocks are solidThe top beam block wont be placed .Breaking the beam will only break one block and the block above doesn't render.Relogging will remove the beam.Have you deleted your config files and are still able to reproduce this bug?: Yes Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed?: Yes If yes, which mods? fastcrast 1.9 mapwriter 2.1.2
  17. Sculpting Skill

I like the skill idea but I'm not completely sold on the effects it brings. The unlocking of modes is good, smoothing and stairs are basic needing no skill, slab would be next and detailed last. I would say the chance to fail at making bricks is to high, maybe 40% with no skill, and 0% at adept or expert. I don't think this should be a limiting thing, just something to add a touch of believability. Bricks shouldn't be hard to make. As for the block breaking with low skill, I'm not sure, I don't really like it but I don't have an alternative. Over all though, yes, lets make this happen.
  18. [Solved] Odd cave-in behavior

I think i know what hes talking about here, i think the block is unsuported so it slips sideways before falling , but after it slips it enters an area supported by beams so it doesnt fall, causing it to hang awkwardly in the air. This is what ive noticed happening, i wouldnt consider it a problem though.
  19. [Solved] Odd cave-in behavior

Thanks for all the help, my mining will never be safer.
  20. [Solved] Odd cave-in behavior

But that load is required for a cave in to happen? if its 1 then at least one opaque block needs to be above a stone block, it that stone block is to collapse right? I'll mark this a solved as you sorted out my misinformation.
  21. [Solved] Odd cave-in behavior

Oh ok then, that does explain it, it though it was just 4 block from the support beam not specifically horizontal beams. thanks for your help, now I need to figure out why the horizontal beam broke, I've noticed that happening a few time on different beams so i think there is something fishy going on, but that's for a different post. oh quick question, for a cave in to occur does it require that another stone block is above it? I saw a config for something about that, the minimum rock load one.
  22. [Solved] Odd cave-in behavior

Ok this may solve my confusion. The supported area is 4 block from the horizontal beam, not the vertical beam. This would mean the block you marked blue is 4 blocks from the vertical beam but 5 block from the horizontal beam. Is that correct?
  23. [Solved] Odd cave-in behavior

Hmm ok, but even so the "cave in check area" around the mined block seems to be solid rock or supported area, I though cave ins need an air block below it to happen. also would my original description explain why the beam would be broken, i am 100% sure that a block did not fall though it.
  24. [Solved] Odd cave-in behavior

Doesn't the support beams support an area of 4 blocks horizontally from the beam itself and one above. The room I was in was mined 4 blocks from the beam, so it should have been fully suported.
  25. Tracking Skill

Boar don't need a reason to attack, being alive is enough reason and they are practically indestructible, rifle bullets have been known to bounce off their skull. They would fit right in to TFC. Also here's a pic of a moose in my yard. it was scary.
