ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

1. Tree / Forest Improvements

Vanilla added podzol, which texture can be used as a base for what covers the ground in pine forests. However, light requirements for spreading grass coupled with the biome check is quite a nuisance performance-wise. Because there isn't such thing as forest biome anymore, so check would actually be for an occurence and weighted volume of leaf blocks around the spot, which is considerably more resource intensive.
2. In plenty of places across the world (one of which is in Crimea) there are cobblestone structures built by hand out of finely pieced together rocks that are used to hold massives of dirt in place to stop it sliding from the hill. By hand, out of cobble. More importantly - without any mortar. In Crimea in particular it is by a serpentine road on a mountain side, which was built more than a hundred years ago, and still standing just fine. So, as a matter of fact, you can build a house with cobblestone.
3. COOKING RE-DO

Wait, what complexity, where? PreferenceMap base = parsePreferences(World.getSeed(), PreferenceMode.BASE) //base == 1PreferenceMap player = parsePreferences(player.getPlayername().hashCode(), PreferenceMode.PLAYER) //player == 0.05mergePreferences(base, player) //merge player to basereturn base;Above is pretty much the jist of additional complexity it is required to add player tastes. Mode is affecting the boundaries preferences fluctuation is going to occur, and could itself be just a multiplier of base wrapped in an enumeration for convenience and parameters consistency as shown in pseudocode's comments. Regarding your concerns about world rerolls: I see absolutely no problem with that. There's no way to avoid world rerolls unless you make ALL prefernces based on player entity (which will, for one thing, screw a bunch of people up, for another eliminate the sence of discovery from cooking because preferences will become static pretty much). And even then, world gets rerolled for a great deal more reasons than just wanting to get more convenient meal recipes - ores, terrain, maybe even you spawn on a desert island surrounded by ocean spanning five thousands blocks in every direction. And then, you seem to think that player-specific preferences is something that is geared towards SSP, where rerolls generally happen. Which is not true at all - you wouldn't even notice something like this unless you are playing with other people. And SMP worlds don't generally get rerolled because of something like meal seed values.
4. COOKING RE-DO

Because we can easily make this approach not feasible by hashing player name or another unique parameter into the value. With the proposed Mojang's highly anticipated feature of displayNames this might become exploitable, but even then I would really like to see a minmaxer that would reroll his character name several hundred times just to get a miniscule taste preference adjustments to work in his favour.
5. Unify Agriculture Behavior

This is such a miniscule thing. In fact, sprout is there because the game needs to give player feedback on whether or not crop is planted. It's not a good idea to remove said feedback.
6. Your chisel creations!!

You need to upload it somewhere safe (preferrably where it won't get deleted after a week or so, but this is entirely up to you). Then in reply form you need to click at a button that looks like an image and enter a url to your image here. Additionally, you can just use tags since that button I've told you is going to immediately show the picture right inside your reply form full size, which is inconvenient if you want to add something else to your post.
7. COOKING RE-DO

I don't think individual tastes should be as extreme as you describing. The margin for it should not go as far as 'perfect of one is no less than fine (or good) for another', I believe, meaning one could actually eat other player's perfect food and still get enjoyment out of it, but it is more or less impossible to make food that would be perfect for everyone. If intention is to allow dedicated cooks to making big batches for everyone, making a meal perfect for everyone then would be extremely hard, and I don't think there's nesseccarily something wrong with this.It is very hard for actual cooks to please literally everyone if all they doing is making apple pie - there's at least one who might like pear pie instead.
8. COOKING RE-DO

Why not just pluck some from the cloud and tweak as is required? I do realize some reasons why, but they are supposed to be randomized to an extent anyway, so just rough estimates are enough.
9. Sphalerite Indistinguishable from Gneiss

You can start mining it, and if cracks won't show up - you're looking at an ore. This ain't a solution, just a possible workaround.
10. COOKING RE-DO

Things suggested here are very good. I think the only way I realistically might expand on the concept is different player tastes (again with the seed, just hash the player name and add it to the seed, voila), so things that are perfect for one player, are good, but not nesseccarily great for another. This, of cource, was mentioned before in here, but it's still might be good to bring this part up separately.
11. Yes, we do realize this, and it does look better. But this change has also invalidated cobble as a building material (you need a pretty creative exploitation of sliding mechanics for it to work). We like cobble as a builing material, other types of stone do not cover all the aesthetic uses for it. The two ways left are currently either an exploit or single-layer-thick wall panels, and I guessed as you wouldn't really like us using the first one, and the second one is both performance taking and quite a nuicance for building nice interiors. Hence this thread asking you to think of something that will bring cobblestones back.
12. Bibliocraft Addon

On my modded versions with bibiliocraft and thaumcraft together, I sit in chair every time I'm doing research at a table. Why do you people always underestimate the vanily factor?
13. Burn Creeper Burn! And Boom!

I like the idea in general (especially creeper seeds part ) , but I gotta advise you to not go deep into 'realistically makes sense' part of this suggestions. Flammable doesn't really mean explosive. IRL you'd actually want the bomb shell as intact as possible, because if it's not, it will leak combustion products out, which can even result in inner pressure not being able to break the shell. Which means no explosion, just a bit of a puff of smoke. If anything, walking plant like that would want to explode as to not burn the seeds with itself, not because fire got to gunpowder and lit it.
14. Use for lead, smithing practice

Well, for one thing, most of them died for other reasons before any symthoms showed up. Second thing is that light forms of lead poisoning aren't that obvious without blood levels analysis, and if someone actually died from it, they wouldn't know why anyways.
15. Rest/Exhaustion.

A bear pelt with a skull and everything
16. Having difficulty getting the bronze ratio correct

Yes, I think this should in general work with an idea that user enters what he wants to make, then how much does he have from the requirements. Computation result then shows the range of ingredients (for which quantites weren't specified) required to actually make the alloy. It should also have an option (checkbox or the like) to snap to hundreds of units of resulting alloy (if it can achieve that given ingredient quantites, if it can't it will show a warning along with the result). Haven't seen his code, but I can safely say that you can pretty easily learn to code not only like that, but possibly even better, if you want to learn and practice.
17. New things

I think you just scared him away by this point.
18. Use for lead, smithing practice

enWiki has mentioned animals (and people) getting lead poisoning from eating game meats. So there you have it.
19. Rest/Exhaustion.

Then how much time it actually is required to restore a, say, half-exhausted character? A minute? That's a minute you're NOT playing Minecraft, you're just staring at a blank screen. And that minute would be the longest minute of your playtime, believe me. Well, to that, I think, I might have a solution for the future builds. TFC will have some form of clothing, right? So let one of the forms be a cloak. Then fur cloak one can be used to make a primitive bed (while being worn, it will, obviously, provide environmental protection, but that aside), and once the night is passed, the bed can be broken to retrieve the cloak back. This would however require a bed to store information about what was used to make it, though I don't think it's really that hard to do.
20. Use for lead, smithing practice

Which would horribly kill them in just about five or so years, if you try doing this consistently. What a way to go
21. It actually is not. Dunk was playing with the idea and made some blocks, but from the IRC conversation with Bioxx, I can say it's still way up in the air.
22. I would want non-sliding cobblestone I can build of too. I feel this is believable for handcrafted cobblestone walls to not topple immediatelyon their side. Especially considering we still have fence-like walls from cobblestone that are even more stable in this particular respect (albeit they require 3x3 grid)
23. But then if we are taking panning into an account, and considering it yields native copper nugs (haven't played with panning much, I'm still forgetting that's a thing people actually do now; habits), the only thing OP suggestion does is it makes panning even more effective. In my eyes GunnerX's suggestion is then even more viable way to slowing the game down. Then again, I'll always be against slowing progression in general in these ways. If we are dancing around the fact that there's nothing to do once player is progressed up to high tier, padding earlier stages just so they take longer is a terrible approach. [offtopic] Thanks and hello to you too. If fact, I'm there (somewhere) almost every day. It's just I'm at this stage when I've seen most suggestions people do now at least once already, so I'm replying less and less frequently. Or maybe you just haven't run into me. [/offtopic]
24. learning to mod 1.6.4

I would also strongly recommend you to NOT learn anything from the way Minecraft is coded (can't say same nor opposite for TFC, don't know it well enough yet) and read up on useful design quirks and patterns. Then it is a lot of practice, basically.
25. Building Damage

"Just you try to log out, you lil'shit. Not only your food will rot then, but even your ah-so-pretty house will turn to ashes in this time." Really, man? Why would anyone want to go around searching for cracks? Also, why would anyone want to add that much computing requirements to the game, when even basic performance in TFC is not good comparing to vanilla, which is already badly performing in general?
