      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. B78 Pre-Release Live-Steam 04/08/14!!!

For those who do not check Dunk's twitter, he has announced a #TFCTuesday thread for the live stream of B78 Pre-Release! Check the twitter post for more info and donate to their hard work! Live Stream Link HERE:http://www.twitch.tv/pakratt0013
  2. Metric vs imperial

I agree with you when you speak of lengths and degrees, However there is a usefulness in the Imperial weight system that may never stop being adopted. It has to do with the Force vs Mass issue when associating weights and it make a difference cause I don't like doing measurements in Newtons...
  3. Metric vs imperial

I never said it would be impossible for all of us to come to understand what the units mean, I stated that It would confuse us. At first, players may not know the value of a unit, but it can be quick compartmentalized. The unit could be converted to lb or kg, but players will not have the incentive to associate them. This is kinda like relearning units of measure and the speed in which it is adapted depends on the number of new units that exist. Using "stone" or any other unit could work, you just have to inflate the unit to a reasonable amount per item (to allow room to work with) and it would be all the same to everyone after a time. Lastly, I do not understand what you mean about conversion-errors, mind rephrasing or explaining what you mean?
  4. Metric vs imperial

I understand what you are saying, however, as an American, I've have been taught both the Metric and Imperial systems and I find some of your reasoning flawed. For, it is the same for us Americans and two wrongs do not make a right. We find it difficult to conceive the product of grams and kilograms and especially hectogram (This unit is rarely used here if at all, I did not know it existed till my middle school years) It is the unfortunate aspect of having a creator who was taught this way as well as the programming aspects of using Metric over Imperial for him that make this untouchable. The conversions from oz to grams or kg is the wackiest of the measuring bunch as it cannot be visually represented accurately like meters can be, it doesn't have common reference points like the boiling or freezing of water like Celsius, and both measures don't even mean the same thing literally (force vs mass) [N.B. this is why the Metric system has to have a PHYSICAL representation to define the Kilogram. The link shows one in the form of a silicon sphere: http://www.rsc.org/chemistryworld/Issues/2007/August/Redefiningthekilo.asp ]I feel sorry for those who do not live in the US, for this is not fair to those people who vastly outnumber us on this opinion. However, until America decides it's worth the cost to change all our road signs and ignore the complains of the zealous Imperial proposers, we can all blame Obama.THANKS OBAMA!As to using a fake system to account for the weight of food, I return back to my previous argument of our ability to compare these measurements and I warn everyone from saying, "Why don't we scrap the weight system give the food a number of 'uses' instead?" This ignores the point of using weight in TFC, to account for exact losses in our food rotting system. Unless food is given quantity enough of "uses" to warrant that, the depreciation of food to rot would be undermine by the small durability per food. The only fair solution I can see is to create a fake weight system that confuses both Imperial and Metric users. What's fair isn't always smart.
  5. B78 Pre-Release Live-Steam 04/08/14!!!

Lol, I guessed when you didn't post the time, that you would post an announcement whenever.
  6. B78 Pre-Release Live-Steam 04/08/14!!!

When it happens, it will be announced on Dunk's Twitter.
  7. B78 Pre-Release Live-Steam 04/08/14!!!

One thing we all need to know is, "could this be an April Fools day prank?" Dunk is a punk if it is...(it's breaking the rules if it is said the day before)
  8. Update Frequency Poll

I voted "whenever" because I'd rather have the confidence of the creator that his build is stable. However, I'm sorta inclined for the three month thing because I believe it is wise to allow your audience to gauge the effectiveness of a addition over its stability. As we all know, not all thing on paper work out when played through.
  9. Metal ornanents (Goldsmithing)

They do this well in ExtraFirma, creating such fine esthetics in lanterns, plates, etc... However, I believe that projectiles (Arrow heads or Bolts) are always a good use for plentiful copper and bronze.
  10. War Comes to TFC

I think they already plan to have woolen cloths in later additions.
  11. food preservation

I am not as worryed about Food freshness as I am of the Agricultural hazards/process in the game. With the annoucement of fertilizer, it should improve a bit, however, there is a lack of other challenges like Disease, Pests (animals eating crops), and weatherdamage (Wind damage, flooding, lightning, etc...).
  12. [TFC 0.77.21] SteamAge v0.3.0

Good to know that he fully considers the mechanical side of things. Though I doubt that he considers steam a viable power source. I believe that the water wheel, windmill, and horse power may be the limits.
  13. War Comes to TFC

*Snickers as he changes the texture of Water Jugs toGatorade*
  14. War Comes to TFC

I agree and I also have realized something that was hidden right under my nose! With thirst controlling the players movement, I believe it should be the fastest to deplete (should be by default anyways). In this way, your ideas will have the delightful effect of turning the Thirst meter into a makeshift Stamina meter, which can be increased by gathering EXP from killing mobs (or players). Player would not only benefit from the increased health, but also be able to last longer In a prolonged battle. My only fear is that players would end up using jugs of water like stamina potions. But that could also be said of food too.
  15. War Comes to TFC

I don't know, I still think that a higher penalty for armor should exist, maybe the 10% you mentioned before or a 15%.
  16. [TFC 0.77.21] SteamAge v0.3.0

Can't wait to see this in 78
  17. War Comes to TFC

I disagree slightly with you. Armor having a disadvantage in movement is not only meant to make armor a challenge in combat, but also to encourage the use of lighter armor (especially Leather) as civilian wares. As of right now, Player roam about wearing their Bronze or Steel armor (which ever metal they have most of) all the time. Of course, this is because it allow the player to be always ready for combat, and never be too surprised. I would love to see that changed in TFC because our combat, like Vanilla combat, has (like you said before) mainly been a battle superior wares over that of skill. Wearing you best armor everywhere only encourages that behavior. On the other hand, I do not believe that Armor should fully prevent players from being able to run (maybe a speed faster than normal walking, but slower than normal running), but as a natural consequence, I agree with the op that armor clad players would have increased hunger and thirst.
  18. Explosives, a use for gunpowder.

Many of us do, I think that if we are going to have powder kegs, we might as well have smaller more controlled explosives.
  19. Donations

idk about refunds with Paypal, but if that is all that is hindering yah then that is unfortunate. Although I think that you should try it out, if you really do fear setbacks like that, I guess you have a reason. Most claims with Paypal, especially with refunds can usually be dealt with quickly (Especially if the person wishes a refund immediately after a charge). But if someone wants a refund 10 days after a donation has been made because they just noticed it on their bank statement, unless Paypal has something to say about it, they are SOL in my opinion.
  20. Donations

I don't know if whoever made the donate panel knows this, but there are services that exist on Paypal which allows people to subscribe to donating on a recurring monthly basis. I would subscribe to such service if it existed here, as I did with the Dwarf Fortress group. it's so much easier in today's world to subscribe to a monthly payment rather than having to whip out the credit card every month to donate. Plus, It'll give the TFC guys a little more show for their effort. Did you know that the Dwarf Fortress group made this much in donations monthly since September 2013 - January 2014 due to services like that (And they haven't had an update since June 4, 2012) January: $4040.37December: $5903.18November: $3683.50October: $4727.45September: $3888.52They average $3000 almost purely from recurring donations and both developers had for a long time relied on that sole form of income, and maybe still are.(now I don't expect this from TFC, but it may still cause a noticeable increase in monthly donations.)Note: to DF fans out here, they are closing on a new update and a lot of stuff is about to go down!!!
  21. Discussion thread for the Combat Revamp

It's not dead as much as most everything has been said. In fact, most of this idea has been suggested in the my repost/compilation of this thread. It's a good idea none the less
  22. Water Changes

Interesting, though I think the muddy water in barrels is a little over the top especially when Extrafirma made mud bricking so well. I think the concept of different water would enhance the survival aspect, especally with construction planning. I'd like to add that muddy water should be more prevalent around swamps and should make player sink into it if they walk though it.
  23. Combat Revamp Opinion Poll

Exotic war animals can get a little over the top. I think that if we ever have something like that, Bears would be at the only one I could see being integrated (cuz the model already exists). I also would like to beta-test the idea of making aCombat Skills System. With the current EXP system only being used on health, what if we initiated a system that would have players choosing whether to spend EXP on being able to use advanced weapons or saving it for more health. For example, what if players began only being able to use a basic weapon (knife?) and if they attempted to use a more advance weapon (sword?) they would be crippled with a varying slowness in swing (Miners Fatigue?) or when they used a ranged weapon (bow?) they would have low accuracy (idk how to do this). This would last until they spent the EXP on learning that skill.
  24. Argentite, silver ore
