      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. What if we had nutrient specific fertilizers, which, unlike the existing sylvite ore fertilizer, only increased 1 of the 3 nutrient levels. Like, you could leave a raw fish in the soil, or bone meal, or charcoal.

  2. If there were fish mobs that were invulnerable unless attacked by a spear or fished out with a fishing rod, then I would like this idea. However the idea of throwing a spear into empty waters will not only feel odd, but it'll get very boring, very quickly. Also you need to split up your ideas again, a net and a fishing spear are two entirely different suggestions. A fish net would be a lot better though, since you usually throw fish nets without paying attention to where the fish are. That's why they're usually empty when you reel them in.

Maybe, this could fix the current fishing. ATM, fishing is a little odd because you can kill fish with a mace. Maybe, if fish could only be hurt by spears (like, they dodge anything else or something) then there would actually be an incentive to make them!

  3. 79 changed barrels so they can also be used as portable chests that have 12 slots. If you seal the barrel, then you can transport it. However, if you pick one up into your inventory, it's too heavy so you can't move unless you put in on your back (so you can't wear a quiver). Anvils also do this.It also added a Large Ceramic Vessel which is basically just a mini barrel.

  4. One thing that has always bugged me is that, with the possible exception of deer, the whole "animals run from you when you attack them" is really lame. You can still catch them. It would be cool if you had to have a lot of people to hunt them, or hunt from range, or even run them from off a cliff :PAlthough, with the current food dropping mechanic, cliffing wouldn't get you any food. This would necessitate a butchering mechanic where you get to take meat off of a carcass, instead of a meatsplosion.

  5. Meh, graphite is kind of a pain to find. If you don't want to spawn it in/change the spawning parameters, you can do the searching in creative mode. That way you still have to search the area, but it's faster. As long as you restrict yourself from any other cheating, that's probably a good compromise.

  6. The best death I has: I was mining and apparently I came just over the top of a ravine, and I don't know what was above me, but I caused a cave in into the ravine, and I ended up on top of a 40 block 1x1 cobblestone pillar. I was digging my way down when my pickaxe broke. My only choice was to break the pillar by hand. And as I was doing so, skeleton. Needless to say, that stuff was a pain to get back.

  7. A lot of speculation has been made over the past few years (wow!) about where mobs are going in TFC. There isn't a lot that has been confirmed though. I say, we should just be patient and see what the devs roll out.

  8. Ehhh, for rare ores like graphite/garnierite/native silver, even finding the right rocks can be a challenge. In my world I found graphite in schist, which was in a cave. Especially ores that spawn in metamorphic/igneous rock, the lower you go, the more likely you are to find the right rock, and thus, the ore. Yes, I do think caves are a bit OP, but they aren't worthless, per se.

  9. We are not allowed to discuss the actual numbers. So we can't say "this tool has exactly this many uses." But we can give approximations, so iron is better than bronze, steel is better than iron, etc. In addition, for tools made on an anvil (iron and higher must be made this way), the durability of the tool depends on the tool smithing skill of the person that created it. A higher skill will mean more durability.

  10. I really like the large ceramic vessels. I tend to play nomadically until the bronze age/iron age and being able to carry an additional 9 slots/person or more water is SUPER helpful.

  11. You know, I've always considered TFC not as a mod, but as a game that uses minecraft as an engine. I definitely think it would lose something if it stopped using minecraft's basic principles, like the square blocks. The lack of free building is what I've always felt was missing from survival games like Lost in Blue, nd is in my opinion what really sets TFC appart. That said, often I hear it said that something happens/can't be done because of how minecraft handles something. Would be cool to see what the devs could do without those restrictions. But coding an engine from scratch is hard, and takes a lot of time.

Yea, I've always thought this as well. Especially recently, as Minecraft vanilla has been focusing more on adventure and less on survival. Back in the early days (of both TFC and MC) the distinction wasn't as pronounced, but nowadays, they're basically separate games.

  12. Chickens are a fantastic source of food. Once you set up 6 or so nest boxes and leave them for a while, you will have a ridiculous number of chickens, as well as as many eggs as you want, which almost never decay. It took me a while to realize this, but you don't have to be in the equator to find them : I found same at z = -6000 the other day - it was, as kitty describes, a plains-y biome that was hot and wet.

  13. Let's see, you can carve 2 knives from one piece of stone. You can break logs with a hammer to get sticks if you are short on them. You can gather straw with a scythe. Hammers are a good weapon for fighting skeletons early game. A clever way to dig core samples without wasting lots of ladders is to dig near water. Start a 2x1 hole, but make sure one of the blocks is always deeper than the other one. Then you can drain ocean/pond/lake into that side of the hole. If you need to get out or you get stuck in a cave, just swim up the waterfall. If you plan on moving, don't make an anvil, leave it as double ingots so you can transport them without using your back slot. Don't use ropes, they don't hold animals well, use grain to move them instead. (or use both i guess). You can drink (slowly) without a jug by rightclicking (shiftrightclicking?) on fresh water. Don't fight with knives, they don't hit very hard, use axes or hammers.

  14. it removes the "smoked" attribute. I guess the point is to smoke it to preserve it, and then cook it when you want to eat it. Although presumably it tastes different too.

  15. I've explored about 8000 blocks in the z direction (from 10k to 2k) and have been going for a while in the z direciton. The rain isn't high enough to spawn jungles so its just making endless acacia forest. Am I looking in the wrong spot? I can't find any jungles.

  16. I tend to play nomadically with a small group of 1-3 other people. We move almost every other in-game day, collecting crops and materials, as well as finding the locations of animals. Once we have accumulated a large number of bronze-giving ores, we settle down somewhere with an iron-bearing ore. Then we set up a house and split up, heading out to bring home various types of animals, ores, or other things that we encountered but did not pick up. Then we progress from there in our big house. Since until the house stage we keep  undoing and redoing our house, the torch thing isn't really an issue. Once the house gets going I'm sure it'll be a pain, but hopefully there will be some kind of lantern we can use in the future (I refuse to use pumpkins).
