      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1.  ask for a link to the code that has the information

Don't take this the wrong way because I appreciate you (all) being available but I was under the impression this is what wikis are designed to avoid. What about adding a specific section to the wiki that contains more detailed information that has a simple "I understand" gateway requiring a click to view?

  2.  knowing all of the numbers behind the scenes is not something you can un-learn, and ruins gameplay for many players.

I see. Shouldn't the burden be on those people to not lookup what they don't want to know and not on the players who would rather not spend hours in tedium trying to figure it out.

  3. Maize requires a temperature of 0 to stay alive, and 8 to grow.

Sugarcane requires a temperature of 12 to stay alive, and 18 to grow.

Is there a master list for these somewhere yet? This is kind of important to know.

  4. What is the minimum temperature to plant and maintain a Maize/Sugarcane crop. I'm currently living above -14000 and it's April. I'm wondering if I can eventually cultivate a Maize/Sugarcane crop or if I'm going to have to build a farm further south to do it.

  5. I like the idea that zombies are the weakest due to the built in mob mentality but I think 1500 hitpoints for a skeleton is a bit OP. What makes them formidable is their damage + cyclic rate. Take into account their hitpoints and how often they spawn in armor and they are a little OP.

  7. Remember this is a game and tedium is not fun. The idea behind the torch change was to eliminate the torch forests that inevitably grow as a result of playing. Personally I think the mechanic is balanced and works as intended though I would have preferred there to be a long term lighting solution (lamp) present as well.

  8. I'm fairly certain temperature affects food decay and altitude affects temperature. Find a very tall mountain and build a warehouse/silo at the peak. I'm thinking you'll need to be above z -/+14000 and y +225.

  9. As kitty stated above, thatch is perfectly valid for its intended purpose. If you properly spider proof your house, there will never be spiders on your roof to fall though the thatch. Has everyone seriously forgotten that a small lip prevents spiders from getting on your roof? Thatch will never return to its former implementation. Believeability Realism has nothing to do with it. Thatch was a wonder block that defeated the purpose of all the changes made to dirt etc.

    I like the change.

I can remember having players on my build 76 server that made all of their buildings out of thatch and clay blocks never even trying to get beyond it to something better. It was the ugliest shit I'd ever seen and of course they were gone within a couple of weeks claiming things were "too hard" or there was nothing to do.

  10. Its a good idea from a gameplay standpoint

This is however part of the whole some terrain slows you down idea

Basically the issue here is that Better Than Wolves did it first. The devs find it annoying that so many people keep comparing TFC to BTW as they have completely different design goals and have very little similarity other than they are both low tech total conversions.

They aren't fond of adding features that were added by BTW, even if the features are obvious ones that people would have easily thought of even if BTW was never created.

Adding to this the fact that terrain slowing seems like a painful way to add realism to what is supposed to be a game especially if there is no mechanic to undo the slowness (ie snow shoes, boots for mud, etc).

  11. I added Carpenter's blocks to my personal pack and used Minetweaker to adjust the recipes to use TFC items. Thatch unfortunately isn't compatible with Carpenter's blocks as a cover but Vanilla Hay is. I used Minetweaker to create a Hay recipe using straw which I can use to cover the Carpenter's blocks and make a "thatch" looking roof.Below is the Minetweaker code necessary to make the script. Use a note program to create the script. Save the file as <insert any name>.zs. It should be put in the scripts directory once created by Minetweaker.
