      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Fishing

30 posts in this topic

bread is literally the worst bait I have ever used. It doesn't attract fish with smell and doesn't stay on the hook. The best bait is some form of meat, as it has a natural scent and is easy to keep a hook in.

I think bait is the farthest we should go, anything else is pretty simple for <35 pound fish.

I've had bread work very well. It works best if you get it wet and mash it into a doughy substance, that really helps it stay on the hook.

Our family is a fishing family and I've only used bread once to successfully catch something and that was in a stocked lake that they had starved for three days so they would eat anything, other than that they aren't any more attracted to eating dough than eating anything else you put on a hook. Whereas we could make a fly tying mechanic or just use live bait this would work for smaller lake and river fish, meat is used more for larger fish and the more meat the larger the fish but the question is, will the pole handle it? Anything not handlable by our poles a spear or harpoon would be necessary for.

i do that, but it tends to get picked off of the hook by small fish, fall off due to being too soggy, and lots of bigger fish ignore it. I've had the best luck with hotdogs, worms/worm like creatures, and meat like fish offcuts or, most recently, lamb offcuts.

Like i've said before, most of the fish that you would be fishing are <35 lbs, so i'm pretty sure the pole can handle it. You aren't going deep sea fishing or fishing in the amazon, so chances are there aren't that many big guys in the little creeks we call rivers.

For easy bait we could also have normal food be crafted into "Bait Scraps" like one porkchop turns into 8-16 scraps and a fish turns into 4-8.

Or we could implement more metalworking and actually make hooks first has anybody ever noticed that. tie a couple feathers on and viola simple reusable bait.
