      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[B65] Uplayable Lag Issues in MP

15 posts in this topic

I've tried playing TFC in various builds in SMP and I always end up stuck, the lag is unplayable, lag of a good 2+ minutes between my actions and seeing the results. Eventually I usually get a socket exception and get disconnected. Everyone else on the server is fine. I do not have this issue with any of the other Minecraft mods I have played over the years, even on the same server.

I have tried turning the graphics down to as low as possible and pushing for max FPS, but it never makes any difference, the lag between server and client is unplayable.

Does anyone have any suggestions I can try?

Thanks for any assistance!

I do not have this issue with any of the other Minecraft mods I have played over the years, even on the same server.

I only ask because it's a little unclear what you mean by "the same server", but are you connecting to a server running the TFC mod, or just a generic minecraft server where you only install TFC on your client?

Unrelated, but I had quite a FPS drop since build 60. Ran an average of 60-80 with lag spikes around 30-40 and now I average 40-50 with spikes of 15-20

You can try an internet speed test to check your connection: www.speedtest.net

Thanks for your responses.

I am connecting to a server that is running TFC, I also have it installed in my client (the same version!). I have connected to it many times before when the friends I play with have tried different mods and had no problems, I am only having this issue with TFC!

My internet speed is absolutely fine to play most online games, including other minecraft mods in multiplayer, unless TFC is using substantially different packet sizes or something?

I don't think it's my system specs outright...I've got 4GB RAM and plenty of CPU punch to play with, unless there's some sort of hardware compatibility issue that only I'm having? :(

TFC has more data than Minecraft, and minecraft uses more data than most games I suspect because very little of the world is stored on the client end, most games have preset maps but minecraft is streaming new sections of maps whenever you move more than about 8 blocks, and it's confirming the ones that are there are right, about 20 times a second.

Have you played other mods on that server recently? Could just be something wrong with the path to that server. Maybe try a tracert command (in windows) or traceroute (in linux):

tracert -d ip_address

Most recently we played an unmodded adventure map, with no issues.

I did a tracert like you suggested, with these results:

No that's actually ok. The other times are pretty short. Some routers and computers are configured to ignore the TTL packets so there's probably just nothing further in the chain responding.

I can't imagine what could cause only you to have issues, and only with TFC. Odd.

It's got to be something with your client. Have you tried a completely fresh installation? That means renaming or deleting the ".minecraft" folder and letting everything download again. Then installing forge and player API (in that order) and adding TFC to the mods folder.

I actually had to do that today... reinstall Minecraft from scratch, then Forge and Player API. Was getting some funky lag at times. But it is fine now. I also cleared the cache and checked the oil. :P

i was getting very similar problems to what you have described

i figured out that after a resent .minecraft update my configs folders contents had not been deleted

when these were removed i got instantly better results

on a side note:

while running TFC version build 52c i have been having trouble creating new worlds

every time i try to create a new world my game runs out of memory and crashes

i was unable to use the error log as there was nothing on it

After a lot of jiggling and poking, turns out TFC is just using a huge amount of bandwidth and it's choking my internet connection, and my ISP doesn't like it very much! I can play mostly fine at offpeak times like in the middle of the day during the week if I'm not working :P

Thank you for all of your help and suggestions!
