      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[B64] New maps do not spawn clay

7 posts in this topic

So, got the mod finally after the website went offline.

Loved it so far, but it crashed repeatedly until I installed the 64x version of Java. (New OS installed, went from 32 bit to 64 bit version)

The problem is, now I can no longer generate any maps with clay on them.

I have tried repeatedly, even using the same seed as a my first map before I installed Java64 and it generated a new map without clay, and sometimes large cubic gaps missing from the landscape.

I've gone on sojournes trough 4 maps generated so far, 2 days north, south, east and west, sampling soil and silt looking for clay.

I've since wiped my minecraft install and reinstalled fresh, did the same for my Java's and still no clay dice.

I've also only been generating 3 biomes, The huge, jagged mountains with tonnes of exposed ore (and the odd floating island) and river laced flatlands, both settled right next to an ocean.

Generated 48 maps so far, I always start in rivery flatlands or epic mountains.

I've used the downloads for Forge and player API off the TFC download page.

The only other mod I'm using is MAtmos.

So what should I do?

I don't really want to uninstall java64 just to generate maps, but so far that looks to be the only way this will work.

Try open the TFCOption config file, change enableBettergrass from true to false, and use the same seed once, it helps with findding clay. I've played #64, and clay do spawn.

The only other mod I'm using is MAtmos.

Two things to try:

One, try using forge 354. The TFC download page links to the "recommended" build which is 349, but right next to that it says TFC requires 354 or later. However, anything beyond 355 also doesn't work since those are for the upcoming 1.4.4 minecraft. You can get specific versions of forge at http://files.minecraftforge.net/

Second, definitely try without MAtmos. Just forge, player API and TFC.

I've tried that, it hasn't helped with finding any so far.

I went and 'remade' my first game, where I started on a huge patch of clay that twisted under the river.

Instead of clay there's was a 'crater' and an air tunnel leading underneath the river, which while cool to see, does not help me find clay.

It's like it was generated and then removed, and the world hadn't yet noticed.

I've just done a clean install of Java 32 (not 64, it's gone for now) and Minecraft, I'll try and grab forge 354 and the 65 update and see if that helps. I left MAtmos out of the major testing, when I was going to find clay before, took a fair bit of time but I searched the entire starting biome and a mile into the neighbouring ones, no clay anywhere, just gaps in the terrain here and there.

The weirdest bit, was that it worked fine, I had a couple of good maps, but then I installed Java 64 and it craps out, only generating river plains with mountains and oceans beside it. Haven't seen a swamp or jungle in close to 70 maps now.

I don't think that the world gen has something to do with the java version, because the world gen is the everytime the same, also if you change the java version.

Make sure you delete the TFC.cfg file in the 'config' folder.

The Java version you use can affect terrain generation and other things in the game, but that should only be addressed if nothing else fixes your problem.

It sounds like you're getting lag during world gen causing the empty blocks. This has been discussed before - it is a vanilla problem with the way world generation is triggered and since 1.3.2 has increasingly been causing problems for mods that use more complex world generation (even on very fast systems!).

Also what kind of CPU/system are you running? Not every system will handle 64-bit java efficiently. Slower processors (even if they're 64-bit processors) often behave poorly running java 64. OptiFine can help to reduce this, but (varyingly) seems to be causing other random issues for people.

There aren't really biomes in TFC. Transitions in landscape do not necessarily mean changes to the underlying rock strata, nor change the conditions of whether you find clay. However there are more swamp-like areas which will be rich in clay. Also remember that clay spawns often with grass on it. You might be walking on clay and not even realise it. It changes colour with the dirt of course too, and under some conditions can be quite difficult to spot - particularly when it is underwater. And even then, it can be quite rare on occasion.

Bear in mind as well that TFC generates a globe. A small globe, but a globe. Your lattitude will drastically change the trees, so if you haven't seen swamp or jungle, you're probably just a long way from where those are occurring.

In generating test worlds, I've also noticed that the seeds seem to somehow tied to the RL calendar/time. Spawning 10-20 worlds in rapid succession will result in 10-20 similar worlds with similar spawn points. Wait several hours and you might see a completely different pattern. I suspect this has to do with how vanilla decides on a seed to use.
