      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Question of Time.

What is the default number of days in a month?

Is each month the same size?

Iv seen in a few topics that explain how to go-in and change the length of the year, but now that I'm interested in that I cant find any of them topics.

Is there a particular year length that most people usually end up using that different than default?

Will making the year longer/shorter directly cause the crops to grow faster/slower?

(I know that temperature affects growth rate, and seasons can affect the temperature. So that would be an indirect way longer/shorter years would affect growth.)

Im pretty sure year length affects the growth rate of crops. I sorta tweaked mine up and down when I first brought this server back up in an attempt to make it so that crops take a few real days to grow, so that people wouldnt constantly lose their crops over night. It seems to have worked, so if thats not how it functions, then ive lost my mind 0.0. My servers year length is 276

Default year length is 96 days.

12 months of equal length per year.

So 8 day long months, that fits about how long I thought it was.

That feels like its too short for me.

Is there a reason its 8 days rather than 7? And if I extend mine to two weeks per month should I make it so each is 15 days rather than 14?

8 days a month is the default lenght in the config file.

In the config file you give the year lenght.

But you can change this. The rule is "length of year = multiple of 12"

So for a seven day month you define year length = 7*12 = 84. ond so on for 15 days a month etc...

I think 96 was just chosen at random.

I think 96 was just chosen at random.

Thing is you would have to wait all that time to haverst your crops. It might ve not much for SMP, but if you are playing single player, that would be 16 real hours of gameplay... hunger and boredom would kill you.

as a followup question, is time calculated when you're sleeping? I realize this mod doesn't have anything like Somnia, but for the long-term stuff such as this, is it based on waking minutes or on the day count?

Yeah, time is calculated while sleeping in TFC at least to a degree, you'll wake up hungry and the world's time gets set higher, I'm fairly certain this does affect crops as well given what a few other people have said.

Basically in TFC time is universal, always passing(even when nobody is on), and if you sleep it fasts forward and just keeps on going.

Nice. Does it work for unloaded chunks too? (that has been generated to begin with, I mean).

Most things in TFC don't use Minecraft ticks to represent time, they go by TFC's calendar. You can check what works like that by advancing time quickly in NEI and watching crops grow/your character suddenly starving to death when your hunger is recalculated.

Nice. I've noticed that since I started playing TFC, among the first things I do on a new save is go for a book & quill to jot down interesting coordinates. I assume I'll have to do the same thing for important dates! Thanks a lot.
