      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Gunpowder

23 posts in this topic

To make gunpowder you should smash charcoal with hammer to get dust, then mix 4 sulfur with 5 charcoal dust to get 8 of gunpowder. Then you could make TNT to start mining.

Rivers should flow.

Make steam engine for powered minecart.

You explained everything so poorly.

You sound like a bot to me. Can you atleast look at other threads before posting yours to prevent the spamming of the same idea.

All suggestions have to have their own thread. This is not a wishlist website

Rivers should flow.

Bioxx should add spices so I can finish this comment.

Isn't the gunpowder thing already planned?

Yes, the gunpowder is already planned

And no,i do not think you are telling me what you need the spice for, other than selling it in another game (Spore reference)

Please expand your idea about the spices

spore reference l0000l. Saltpeter plus sulfur powder plus ground charcoal = gunpowder. end of story.

However rivers are an interesting concept. The way rivers actually work IRL is that there is a LOT and i mean a LOT of water somewhere high up, which makes the water flow out. When water pressure is added along side somesort of water table (see well thread) then real rivers could happen. Spices what?

Steampunk!

Also, this should require a crafting table, and would end up using 8 slots. Gunpowder is made with a 15:2:3 ratio of saltpeter to sulphur to charcoal. Since that's a bit impractical, I think a 6:1:1 ratio could be acceptable. It would be too high-yeild for firearms without the proper ratio though, and therefore only suitable in explosive charges such as TNT. Assuming saltpeter is K, sulphur is S, and charcoal is C, it would be something like this:

K S K

K `` K = 4 gunpowder

K C K

but of course, a shapeless recipe. don't forget how to grind charcoal (metal hammer) and how to turn sulfur ore ( if you find it) into sulfur powder (metal hammer)

For rivers flow the water mechanics would have to be a lot more dynamic. They would need to evaporate and all that stuff or else every low place would be flooded... But it's possible.

but the sulphur 'ore' is already a powder when you collect it...

and idk about shapeless recipe, making gunpoweder IRL is a pretty exacting process

Even though I have played Spore and my ferret-cat-eagle creatures kicked major space butt while still wearing their tribal masks, I was not referncing that game. And although what I was referencing also used spice as a trade item/currency, I wasn't referring to that either. When linuxas said "Rivers should flow." I thought about a quote from Dune: "The spice must flow.", that's all.

Ahhh yes, the spice melange. :) That was my first thought. Second was actually spices for cooking since I'm also a chef lol.

The question isn't if it is possible, but rather if it is worth the amount of coding work and subsequent CPU drain such simulation would require?

I would love to see running water, but it seems like an awfully difficult proposition, especially in terms of optimization.

Dune is a book not a game...

Yup the first of 4 books. The first book was made into a movie in '84 (good movie in my opinion) and was made into 2 different games (2 RPG-esque strategy game where you play Paul Atreides: "Dune" and "Frank Herbert's Dune" - based on the Sci-Fi channel's miniseries) and 3 strategy games (Dune 2, Dune 2000, Emperor Battle for Dune). I think there's other things made from the books as well. It's a pretty good series worth reading if you like classics.

I played the HELL out of Dune2 when I was a kid heheh. It was a precursor to the C&C games.

That proves he doesn't know anything about the game, which frankly isn't surprising, since it was released about a week after the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Hahahaha so true. Such a nostalgic feeling it gives to play the old DOS classics (esp. Dune 2). Excellent soundtrack too.

Anyway - end off-topicness :)
