      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Clay texture not working?

I think this is a pretty big bug. I tried pretty hard last night to find clay by just guessing where it may be. I was unsuccessful . I noticed that the clay texture fix is now listed in the version 50 change log. In fact the change log hints that the problem only occurs when the clay block has grass, but that's not what 99887 reported. If version 50 adds a lot of content, then I hope Bioxx will put out a version 49k with just the bugfixes. Not everyone wants to be playing the "bleeding edge", and I just don't see 49j as playable until redwood tree felling and the clay textures are fixed.
  2. effective ways to mine?

I just tested this in 49j. I started a new world on peaceful, and had enough metal nuggets to make a pick and propick after about a day and a half. The time was hour 14 on March 2 (right before it turned dark), and here's what I had: 360 Rhyolite Rock 61 Diorite 4 Gabbro 40 copper nuggets 11 Sphalerite 32 Cassiterite 0 Bismuthirite Clearly this won't work so well if you aren't playing on peaceful, but it is still better than making sluices to get started. I never found nearly this much ore while exploring in version 47 or 48.
  3. Fintite/Infinte water

It's a bug in vanilla minecraft. A fix is here: http://www.minecraft...ropagation-fix/ Someone posted about it recently on reddit also, and asked Dinnerbone to fix it, but I don't think it caught his attention. If you read the decompiled code in the spoilers on that page, it's pretty clear that it is supposed to fill in holes like this with source blocks, but there's just a careless off-by-one error that keeps it from working.
  4. Access to older versions

Yeah, the first version of 48 was pretty buggy also. For any given release, the last last letter in the series (usually f or g recently) is the most stable. I'm not sure what time 49g came out, but it must have been after treyflix's post, so it looks like they are still in bugfixing mode. You may want to just wait a few more hours to see if there is going to be a 49h or not. If there's ever a break of 24+ hours without an update, that's usually the signal that they've stopped bugfixing, and are now working on new features for the next release.
  5. My assumption is that English isn't Dan's first language, and he intended to use the word "bother" rather than "molest". The verb "molestar" in Spanish essentially means bother, so the mistake is actually fairly common.
  6. Mods you use alongside TFC

That's true, but I think there is plenty of Millenaire code that would need to be changed anyway (it uses temperatures and humidity to determine where villages are spawned). If you're already mucking with Millenaire code, changing the villager's buy list wouldn't be that hard. Do you know if Millenaire quests can just be turned off? The old man is supposed to spawn near a particular tree in a particular biome, and a lot of his quests are biome specific. I think that enough of that will be broken that it's not even worth trying to fix.
  7. Mods you use alongside TFC

This thread has a lot more about compatibility. It lists a few other small mods that are compatible (like Griefer Creepers). Millenaire would be awesome, but more than just IDs would have to change. The villagers need wood and cobblestone from the players, so the code would have to change to accept TFC cobblestone and TFC wood. Recipes for bricks would have to be changed. And I can't imagine that the generation of villages would work with TFC generation either. Still, it would be an awesome combination. The mods seem a bit like they are built for each other.
  8. I played 49 a bit last night. It seems to always spawn you around 0,-9900 in every world, which is a rather moderate climate. In my first world, it was a plains area, and it took me at least a minute of running to even get to another biome so I could find rocks. That biome was "Tall Hills", or something like that, and I had to scale mountains by dirt pillaring up, just so I could get my first rock! Once I finally got an axe, I noticed that the time to chop down trees has been multiplied by a factor of approximately 4. Using a stone axe on a tree takes about as much time as punching a tree in Vanilla. I played around in creative mode also. The terrain does look amazing. Finding exposed ore is a lot easier, for 3 main reasons. There's taller cliffs than before, there's a number of surface caves, and there are biomes with exposed rock faces (rather rare). As far as travelling to a polar or equatorial region, it's just not worth it. Even in creative, the lag from terrain creation made me give up. It's definitely possible in creative (expect 20-30 minutes of flying), but if you are that desperate, use the /tp command. Your time is worth more than your pride . Personally, I wouldn't mind a server restart, but I haven't played here as long as most people, so I don't have much to lose.
  9. Mods you use alongside TFC

So, what is the current list of compatible SMP mods? It looks we have 2 confirmed, and possibly a third: 1) Smart Movement -confirmed 2) ComputerCraft -confirmed 3) Millenaire -theorized I'm a bit confused about how ComputerCraft would work. Almost all the recipes require redstone, which doesn't exist in world made by the TFC generation. I'm assuming that admins would have to cheat in the computer craft items. Has anyone ever tried Mo' Creatures? I don't think it involves much (if any) crafting, so it seems like it has a chance of being compatible.
  10. Sure, I wasn't trying to rush you, I was just wanted to start discussing options. The 40,000 meter distance between poles is rather frustrating. It pretty much means that we'll all live in nearly the same climate, and it will cause curious players to go on mega-journeys either north or south, which usually ends up hurting server performance in the end. Snow will be gone, and we'll lose everything that we've built (in my case, that's not much). On the upside, caves sound like a great addition, and the bug of downward knockback while drowning is finally fixed (in 1.3.2). I've played on one server before where you could carry one inventory's worth of items through the upgrade. It was terribly problematic (since a lot of people died right after arriving, and lost everything they had), and I don't even know how feasible it is with a non-bukkit mod like TFC.
  11. Well, we can have stone ladders now, assuming we upgrade to version 49. Are we going to upgrade to 49? Will the world be wiped?
  12. The TFC Wiki and Minerals/Ores

Will the next version (49, I presume) be based on 1.3? Edit: Nevermind, I just noticed it's out, and based on 1.3.2: http://www.terrafirm...t.com/download/
  13. Mods you use alongside TFC

As someone else Draco said, it is not Forge-incompatible, but the server is Bukkit-incompatible. This is the main reason you don't see servers with TFC+Mystcraft or TFC+IC2+RP2.
  14. Wow, someone stole stuff from my chests again. This time it was a little more costly. They got a couple bars of iron, quite a bit of raw hematite, my food/leather, and my chisel. They also filled my bloomery with logs, which may have been funny if I tried using it before I discovered it. On the upside, you can get some more testing in on your server-side mod I'll do something to my base to make it look more permanent, and less tempting to wanderers.
  15. Someone stole the stuff in my chests (food, leather, zinc/tin nuggets) at <removed> No one else was given permission to them (I've been playing alone), so anyone who accessed them is probably a thief. Everyone in chat encouraged me to report it, so that the thief can be caught. Thanks! Edit: Removed coordinates, they're no longer necessary.
  16. Ore Tiers

Aggressive? No. I just felt like you are trying to open a can of worms that I worked hard to step around. I'm just sick of the discussion of whether a particular piece of information should or should not be on the wiki. There's no way to reach agreement there because it's a matter of opinion. This argument will last forever if we keep trying to persuade each other that their opinion is incorrect. My whole point was that we shouldn't be drawing lines in the sand about what goes in the wiki and what doesn't. We need to find a way support spoiler sections. After we have that working, and see what it looks like, then we can discuss what should/shouldn't be in the spoiler sections. Here's an example of spoiler sections on another mediawiki site: http://vanishingpoin...diaWiki:Spoiler Using spoiler sections would help keep the pages from being to daunting to players that don't want too much data, yet still allow complex information to be seen.
  17. Ore Tiers

Are you suggesting that recipes can be sent through chat, but not statistics? Edit, don't bother -- I don't want to be trolled into this argument. It's not even the point of my message. I was simply suggesting we may want to consider having spoiler sections in the wiki. I'm not going to argue about what should be in the spoiler sections, and what should not. I'm merely suggesting a way that we can compromise.
  18. Ore Tiers

Seemed fine to me. Let me restate again through an example. The UU-matter recipe for iridium is not published on the IC2 wiki, but all players on mulitplayer servers know it, because someone on chat will help them. It works, but it's not ideal. The more answers available on the wiki, the less spamming in multiplayer chat for help. The point is that the deepest secrets will get out. If it's not through the wiki, it will be through chat.
  19. Ore Tiers

Draco, I think you've made your point well. You've convinced me (although to be honest I already shared this opinion). I just don't think that you're going to convince Dunk that we need more information on the wiki, at least not with your current tactics. Hiding information from the players is not possible. Someone is always going to be curious enough to decompile class files, and then they'll spread the information in chat on the server they play on, and the information gets out. I began playing on a public server for the first time a couple days ago, and within the first day on there, I saw spoilers (regarding which rocks contain Nickel). If I'm going to see spoilers in chat anyway, then I'd like to be able to at least verify them by checking the wiki. The wiki also helps out players who only play on private servers or single player. So, it seems that the purpose here is not to hide the information from players, but simply to keep it from ruining the mystique that some players prefer. I've seen a lot of game wikis that have spoiler sections, where you have to click to expand the region that contains spoilers. It seems like that could be a reasonable solution, if the developers are for it. It's ultimately their decision, though, and it's beginning to bother me how much you are arguing with it. There are lots of other games and mods that go to great lengths to hide stuff on their wikis, and you just have to eventually live with it.
  20. Ore Tiers

Apologizing for ranting? On the internet? Is that allowed?
  21. Actually, as someone else said, in most online games, taking stuff that you can use is not griefing. A griefer is someone who abuses friendly fire to kill their own teammates, or goes to low-level areas to kill players that have no chance to fight back. Those actions would be fine if you gained something from them, but doing it when you have nothing to gain makes you a griefer. In Minecraft, the term is pretty vague, since ever server has different rules. The previous server that I played on allowed you to kill players to take their stuff, but didn't allow you to burn down buildings just to cause destruction (ie. griefing). The signs at DHB's spawn should definitely clarify "no griefing & no stealing". That said, even if there's no signs at spawn, there's no excuse for taking someone else's stuff without first finding out whether the server allows it or not. I'm not going to advocate him being reinstated. Edit: sorry for double posting. I forgot that I had just posted in this thread. Where's the delete button?
  22. By the way, the mediafire link on the first page for the mod is invalid. It looks like the bug that causes the crash is still there.
  23. I think DarkLadyPhoenix made a lot of it. I played on the server for the first time last night also. As I was admiring the chain on the drawbridge, a skeleton dropped down from above, chased me back in, and killed me. I wasn't planning on leaving the castle until daylight, just to be safe, but neglected the possibility of monsters on the roof! Once I did get back on, I found plenty of animals, found a good place to start, and made it easily through my first real night.
  24. The TFC Wiki and Minerals/Ores

Yes, as I continued mining, I realized that it wasn't actually in the slate region.
