      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Rendering whitout rendering blocks to show distance .

There was recently a suggestion thread on MC forums about a more optimized chunk loading system that used 3D chunks rather than 2D (the current system). In other words, the game renders visible sections of the terrain, as it does now, but truncates each chunk vertically so that everything down to bedrock isn't rendered until a player can actively see it. It's explained better on the thread: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1707097-cubic-chunks-infinite-height-elimination-of-x-ray-and-more-220-supporters-new-updated-op/ In theory, this would allow you to see for miles with little overhead.
  2. Starting Shelters?

The first thing I do is deforest an area about 100 blocks in all directions, harvesting rocks along the way. Next, I usually build a 5x5x3 structure (leaving 9 blocks to live in) out of wood blocks, putting cobble pillars on the corners (to conserve wood for later, as it's pretty important early game). I then just drop a door in and I'm usually safe from the creatures of the night. Afterwards, I'll build a framework of planks and place cobble for my roof. The end result looks pretty nice, actually. With my last one, I decided to make it a little bigger and fancier. Here is the result:
  3. Ethics Question

I need to do a quick survey for a class I'm taking, so consider this hypothetical situation: You are living in an apartment with a roommate. This roommate always has some form of change, and usually drops it in a bowl on the top of their dresser. Over the course of the year, this amount has grown substantially large. Today, while you can manage to get by, you are a bit short on cash. Your roommate is out, and you remember this bowl of change. The question: Would you take any money out of this bowl, and most importantly, why? If you could also tell me your gender (if you're comfortable with it) and approximate age (preteen, teen, 20's, etc.), that would be most appreciative (It's important to the survey). EDIT: it seems that a few people (I posted this in multiple forums for a distributed population sample) are confused by the question. I'm not really looking for situational responses, but more "inner-core", "moral-compass" type responses. For example I wouldn't "because it's not morally right" or "I would feel bad if I did", etc. In case you were wondering, I'm trying to compare the results of results of male vs female responses, then compare those against the theories of moral development brought forth by Lawrence Kohlberg and Carol Gilligan to see which more accurately portrays humanity. (fun, right?) The reason I need ages is to make sure I'm comparing apples to apples. Cheers! ~Alt
  4. Null Pointer at WorldGen

Not entirely sure if this is something I did, or what's causing it, but some help would be much appreciated. Whenever I enter a new location too quickly (aka creative mode), my game will freeze and crash with the following: ---- Minecraft Crash Report ---- // Uh... Did I do that? 5. The difference between metals within a tier - how large is it?

If you like, an easier way to find out is to install the MorePlayerModels mod. Last I checked, there is a tooltip available that shows the numeric damage values of items. I usually disable it because I find it a bit annoying.
  6. Whats the most hours you have played TFC in one sitting?

I think the longest I've gone is from 7 PM to around 4 AM. That doesn't happen very often, though.
  7. The difference between metals within a tier - how large is it?

In reference to brass: According to extremely reliable and prestigious sources (wikipedia), brass was primarily used in the ancient world as coinage, though there were some military applications. However, because of the metals' low friction, it is suited for mechanical applications (doorknobs, valves, gears, bushings, etc.). It is also germicidal and has excellent acoustic properties (trumpet, trombone, etc.). ~Alt
  8. Flan's mod issues while experimenting

Thanks again for the help, everyone! Heck, I might try to make a Flan pack optimized for TFC. After all, it was an experiment, anyway. Why not?
  9. TerraFirmaCraft Ruined Minecraft for me.....

After playing TFC, I need to install (many) serious tech mods or something to break up the monotony of vanilla. This is also why I keep wanting mod devs to make their mods compatible, including myself. In the meantime, where's my tin pickaxe? I need to get some copper or something!
  10. Flan's mod issues while experimenting

Well, if what you say is correct, then I can just bump up the damage of the weapons and solve the problem. Thanks! The question isn't so much "why?", it's "why not?"! Thanks again! ~Alt
  11. Flan's mod issues while experimenting

Not sure if this belongs in discussion or support, since it doesn't have to do with the traditional install. I'm guessing here. While experimenting with Flan's Mod (now updated to 1.4.6!), I thought I'd try and install it alongside TFC, just for kicks and giggles. Result: Setup was seamless, and I was able to install a few content packs (for those unfamiliar with FM, all content is delivered in separate zip files, both official and player-made) with no troubles whatsoever. Satisfied, I set up a few of my favorite WWII weapons and proceeded to attempt to blow creepers and zombies back to the nether where they belong. That's where I ran into a problem. I blasted that zombie with everything I had (several automatic clips, several sniper clips, etc.), and try as I might, it would not go down. Finally, I tried a bazooka, which did the trick, but only by explosion damage. Further experimentation showed this to be the case on all mobs. The funny thing is, every mob experienced Knock back and lit up red when hit. My question is this: What is it about the mobs in TFC that cause the bullet ents in FM to not register damage to said mobs? And is there a workaround? Cheers! ~Alt
