      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. New Skill: Mining

I'm not sure it makes sense to have mining (physically ripping rocks apart) improve your skill at finding the ore veins...Maybe the mining level could affect something else, for example:- Mining speed- Chance of cave-ins- Durability lossI think having false negatives for prospecting is a good idea, as it makes it take real skill to do well, instead of arbitrary game stats. Not sure about having a skill level affect that - It gives an even playing field for everyone as it is.
  2. Traps

If I'm not wrong, I think the deer use the vanilla 'ocelot running away' code, which is the running in circles... Maybe the Devs could try the 'villager run from zombie' code, instead. It might give a better feel, and/or better gameplay.
  3. Waiting around at night

I think I might be doing this wrong...I'm still in the stone age - not enough copper nuggers to make a tool yet.But it seems every night, I have nothing to do - I maybe cook something or make some pottery, and then... I don't know what to do. So I alt tab and wait for daytime. So my questions are, do you personally sit around doing nothing every night? If not, what do you do? Is this still a problem when you have advanced metallurgically?
  4. [minor worldgen] sand and gravel beaches

Why did this suggestion slip through to the second+ page? I was just about to re-suggest it. It's quite disturbing to have no beaches - I could understand for inland lakes, but for an ocean, either beaches or cliff faces are quite necessary, I daresay.
  5. On Replacement/Removal of the HUD

I really like this idea. The only problem I can think of would be to be able to tell which ailment is which - maybe having it a buff(debuff?) on the left of your inventory too would help. Here's some input of my own: Cold - Maybe instead of just straight up blue, make an ice mask like the pumpkin helmet mask, and fade it in. Heat - White round the edges, and a bloom effect would be more 'heatstroke-like' than orange. Exhaustion - Maybe some staggering as well - random movements in random directions, swaying. Hunger - Maybe have some noises for hunger - *stomach growling* You could have no visible health bar, and when you take damage the health bar becomes visible for <insert> seconds, then fades out. So in any dangerous situation, your health would be there, but otherwise it would be invisible. Maybe a button to bring up the health bar too - just so people can check when they need. It's probably hard to get rid of a health bar entirely, but to have it only when you need it would go a ways to making it more subtle.
  6. Forest Spirits/Deku Tree

Inspired by a post on the Hidden Stuff topic by Nopkar. Basically, a rare, dungeon-like, forest biome, with a Spirit Tree/ Deku Tree somewhere in the middle of it.The Spirit Tree doesn't like people, and if you chop down trees or leaves in the biome, it could attack you by: Shooting branches at you (Kinda like spears that spawn randomly).Spawning moving tree monsters (Might take a while to code*)Growing brambles/roots around you, damaging you (cactus-like), and restricting your movement.Make creaking tree noises (More Psychological, but remember when those cave sounds scared the shit out of you?*)Probably a lot more ideas that I can't think of.You could find the Spirit Tree and give it gifts to appease it, and it might allow you to chop down a couple of its trees / leaves. The sticks and wood could give a buff to the things made from them (To make braving the wrath of the forest or trying to find the Spirit Tree and give it gifts worth it)The Spirit Tree itself could give amazing wood, but it would have to be a boss-battle to kill it.Ideas for extra effects in the area: Increased tree growth and sizeLeaves regenerate quicklyThick undergrowthBrambles, thorns, strangling vines (Basically things that passively kill you)Mobs - slimes, snakes, giant insects, etc. (I know mobs are the hardest thing to ask to make*)General Ambient creepiness - Ambient Darkness (the trees block out more light?), Fog, fireflies, the noises , bats, eyes glowing through the darkness, etc.Actually, I don't know that it would have to have its own separate biome - maybe the Spirit Tree could just be generated somewhere, and the effects happen in an area around it.For Dunk/Bioxx I am definitely willing to make creaking sounds and/or models - I'm a semi-professional sound artist and 3D modeller, and I'm willing to help make stuff for this worthy mod, if you'll have me. I realise this is your project, and you might feel uncomfortable letting some new guy who just decided to stop lurking recently help.
  7. Spelunking.

Or particle effects could work maybe.
  8. Forest Spirits/Deku Tree

I didn't know this was a suggestion board for just TFC1? I didn't say I want it right now, I'm just suggesting for the future. Even just a creepy forest biome, with brambles and thorns, and ambient creepiness would be nice. Yeah I agree that fantasy should be blended in - are you saying that this is too fantastical? Or if it's implemented it should be weaved? I think as fantasy goes, a dark forest with ambient noises, which subtly punishes you for invading isn't too fantastical The only real problem I've had with TFC is that there isn't anything to encourage exploring except getting the next metal for tools/armour, which only gives you an increase in durability/defence. In other words, virtual numbers. No offence I'd like there to be sidetracks, not just the same slog for ores.
  9. Hidden Fun Stuff

Ooh yes I like it! How about making it that you give gifts to the tree to make it acceptive of you, and then it allows you to get sticks and logs from the trees in its biome, and you can make better stuff with the sticks.. Um ok, this doesn't really count as "hidden" any more and I'm really inspired, so I'm gonna make a new suggestion on it Here
  10. Use for bones

Well, only fresh marrow - I wouldn't eat skeleton marrow, assuming they still have any left. On the original topic, I think it's a great idea - house of boooooones o.o
  11. Use for bones

Are you kidding? I eat the marrow all the time - it's the most delicious, amazing part of the cow.
  12. Using Shears to Shape Hedges/Leaves

Make shears able to shape leaves (the same mechanic as chisels for stone)Able to forge shears from low level metals, and only one ingot (I mean, 4 wrought iron ingots, really?) Wiki LinkI'm not sure if sheep shears should be a different item, because my impression is that the devs want to make wool/beds a commodity. Some examples of what the shears could do: Other shears posts I could find (just to show I actually looked for the topic before posting): Shears to craft Wool into Carpets (not the same) Bronze Shears (Doesn't have the chisel idea, but goes into how the current recipe is ridiculous) Basic Items (This one mentions shears briefly.)
  13. Improved Stone Knapping Interface

I was going to post something similar, but I searched and found this. Something simple (hopefully): when the player clicks on the item in the output slot, just change the GUI back to the original with the 2x2 crafting and the armour.
  14. Shears

Wow, I just had an image of trying to keep your crosshairs on a bucking sheep for 5 seconds in order to shear it. Amazing
  15. Using Shears to Shape Hedges/Leaves

That's what I meant by forging I didn't notice that. But still, 2 wrought iron is a lot, and it takes a long time to even get up to the iron stage.
