      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

While this thread was made 2 days prior to Maga's, Maga's thread has more content, more meaningful content, and more discussion.

I vote this thread be either locked, or merged with Maga's.

I appreciate the HELL out of what you're trying to do here, but a suggestion thread is not the place for wall-o-texts about anything other than the thread topic. That said, if you want to PM this guy a full treatise on the workings of the English language, then please god by all means - you're just saving me the work of doing it myself.

But yeah, serious threads stay on topic plz (derail stupid ideas all you like though, that's fine).

  3. When you apply the prospector's pick onto a block, the block's coordinates are used to generate a random number.

That number is compared with a threshold.  If it doesn't clear the threshold, no actual search for ore is done, returning a potential false negative, and reducing lag by a tiny amount.

If it does clear the threshold, all blocks within a certain distance from the player are inspected. The ore with the highest score is then reported.

The actual threshold value is a magic number in the prospector's pick code.  It should be relatively easy to turn that into a dynamic number  influenced by the player's mining or prospecting skill, and reduce the chance of false negatives.

[Edit: removed specific values to comply with the creators' intentions]

Yeah, dude, poor form. Appreciate that you removed actual numbers, but we do not talk about the man behind the curtain here. We like Oz to stay magical.

  4. There is a thread about realistic wildlife behaviors and it is the one you are reading right now. My post was about wildlife following game trails and being scared out of an area by high levels of human activity. This is completely relevant and has every right to be in this thread. I mentioned trapping because "game trail" behavior has implications in that area as well. Please don't beat down my post if it's not out of line.

  5. my thoughts were more that the pruning shears could become the replacement for vanilla shears, so not only for gathering saplings from fruit trees, and gathering new flower hedges, but also for shearing off leaf blocks, gathering wool, etc.

The image i used for shears was just a suggestion and the vanilla one could be kept.

Hmmm.. making the tool very multi-purpose WOULD definitely make it more likely to be included... and this way actually farming any fruit other than berries effectively is gated behind metal, making things more forage-y like the stone age should be... I like it!

  6. I see this thread going places.

Oil is INCREDIBLY useful, though you'd need to be able to get it from more than just olives. Perhaps a new rapeseed plant, similar to jute

  7. I fully agree, but I DO believe that vanilla will be adding this at some point. If it isn't part of the next version, then I certainly don't think ambient sounds would go amiss, assuming they only play when you're near a source, rather than being permanent-yet-occasional background noise like the music

  8. Is anyone else interested in trapping? Not saying it needs to be in place for large mobs like deer etc (I would prefer to bring those down with a bow) but perhaps if Dunk coded animal trails where small game would repeatedly travel a path we could find evidence of "game trails" in the world and set wire snares or deadfalls etc. If a player is in an area too often/builds too much the game will move away. Just something to spice it up.

There's already a trapping thread here, please keep discussion of hunting traps where it belongs.

    Yeah... no.

    No way in hell, ever.

Even if there ever WAS anything approximating a 'boss' monster (which I really doubt, considering that TFC isn't about 'beating' anything so much as it is about learning first to survive, and then to thrive), it would be very much non-randomized, and it would be in a remote and difficult to access area, like the new Nether rework dunk has been planning for like a year now.

A giant zombie boss has no use whatsoever (the fuck would it drop, a double chest's worth of rotten flesh? Oh boy, christmas came early!), and would contribute absolutely nothing to the mod other than early-game frustration and a complete disconnect from the main aesthetic of the entire world.

In the future, please don't just splurge out whatever you think sounds cool - you can do that in the suggestions section on the main minecraft forums. Here, only ideas that fit in with the core aesthetic of the mod need apply. Thank you in advance for your increase in forethought.

  10. ...mixed feelings here. On the one hand, I LOVE the idea of not having to creatively arrange my 7 different types of berry bush outside my house so they don't look like crap. On the other, purely aesthetic changes and additions are probably priority 0 right now.

Also, MASSIVE props for texturing your own proposed items and including implementation instructions - that kind of shit will get you VERY far around here, but once more on the other hand, D&B hate adding new items when an existing one could just get another function, and I feel they'd probably just make it something you could do with a right-click on a scythe or something.

  11. Already gotcha covered on the ruins. Just a few things Dunk and I have been discussing, though I sincerely doubt these would ever actually make it into the game. Still, it's nice to fantasize...
I quickly mocked up an abandoned guard tower:

  12. I'm still wondering what exactly was it with the water that they abandoned movable water entirely.

It was a 50-meter tall wall of water that flooded their mountain homes on a server, I believe because some sort of water tried to generate on a mountain and ended up infini-generating over itself through the whole world

  13. I am quite sure it was regarded, even in my post just before yours, with the example of ores, coal and whatnot. Tsk tsk, please read the thread first before answering?

I'd started posting earlier that afternoon, then was called awayYour post had not existed when I first started writing

  14. Not 100% if I agree with the exact GUI you have here, or the ability to dump whole stacks of something......but I'd sincerely enjoy a single-block range/oven similar to a forge with only 3 slots, which could accept either wood or charcoal/coal as fuel. The main caveat would be that it MUST look nicer than having a damned firepit in my otherwise lovely Diorite, Limestone, and Birch kitchen...

  15. This whole thread is silly, because you people are only talking for the most part about 2 forms of trade

Barter, and backed currency - you forget the idea of a fiat currency completely.

Benelli said it best, gems are wonderful for this. They may as well be printed paper cash.

But really, you can use anything that's hard to obtain in large quantity, but not worth much practically. You can even use actual pieces of paper if you like, assuming that the leader of the town tightly controls sugarcane growth and therefore market saturation.

But honestly, you can use dirt of a certain foreign stone type if you like - anything will do, as long as Joe Schmo can't just go find a billion of them in the wild with only an hour's work.

If the people doing the trading all agree upon a certain preset value (roughly), then the possibilities are endless.

    Coins are superfluous.

  16. Guess that means we'll need coconut trees for coconut bras. Can't dance the Hula without those coconut bras, you know  ^_^

Oh god please make this an aesthetic chestplate armor

  17. I think the game needs more small animals, like mouse deer, rabbits/hares, badgers, and squirrels. In early game, killing something like a pig or cow will give you too much food than you really need, which would quickly decay and be wasted. Having more small animals would allow you to get protein early in the game without being afraid of wasting a lot of it.

Nod of approval on this one. A good source of small amounts of meat is a great idea for early-game, as well as a great chance for dunk to do some more cool renders and AI

  18. If you look at he number under my name you might notice it's not 1,595+

Still new around here and very much ignorant of what has and has not been discussed over the past months.

Thanks for letting me know it's a closed subject.

    1) If I'm to be blunt (and I usually am), that's what the search function is for.2) As you still have that new-user smell - which is kinda like new car smell mixed with cheetos - I don't really expect you to know that right out the gate. But you now know for the future, so no excuses - research is key.

  19. I've actually been toying with alcohol with the barrel rewrite. As of right now, the recipes still match 78 wherein you take freshwater and then add the foodtype ala apples for cider. However what I'm looking to do tonight is make it so that you need some yeast starter for some alcohols. So if you're making vodka, you'd first take grains and ferment them to get yeast and then add it to the water to create Yeast Water(the reason you need to make yeast water is because the input for liquid stuff only allows one solid item and I don't wish to change that). This will help making the alcohol process a little different for each alcohol. I'm aware that yeast spores are everywhere but I think is acceptable to say that some food types would need a starter. There are some more exciting things going on for alcohols that I cant get into yet.

Well, that's a fair enough explanation/implementation. I'm excited to see what kind of boozy adventure's well all soon be getting up to.

Hell, with enough varieties of malted liquor, maybe Simon of the yogscast will even start playing

  20. Obviously this is true... players take the fastest route. The next part is assuming that roads provide no speed buff.

This has already been discussed to death, necro'd, discussed back down into the archives, and then resurrected in new threads.

D&B have specifically stated that they will not buff speed on roads, and will in fact - if the whim strikes them - simulate the effect by making you move at a permanently debuffed speed unless you're on a road.

  21. As Allen said, Dunk is already working on pretty much everything you mentioned as we speak.Pigs will be boars, cows will be aurochs, chickens will (likely) be red jungle fowl if I had to guess (he hasn't said much about them), and deer will be fast as fuck. Of these, the first two will be hostile, and will hit back. Hard.
